    Finally a pilot that keeps the aileron into the wind throughout the entire landing roll. Basic 101.. I've seen many airline crews that don't..shame.

    • @chrisstromberg6527
      @chrisstromberg6527 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For smaller GA aircraft landing in a crosswind there is a chance that wind on the upwind side could lift a wing causing a loss of control or in extreme conditions lifting a wing tip enough to strike the ground.
      In larger transport category aircraft crews are advised to use only enough wheel inputs so as to maintain wings level. Large control wheel inputs can have an adverse effect on directional control near VMCG due to the additional drag of the extended spoilers. (With an engine failure, directional control could be made more difficult with full aileron inputs at critical airspeeds during the takeoff)
      During landing crews should only use what is required to keep wings level, often times its not much, since the spoilers will usually destroy any lift upon touchdown.

    • @williamluebs7538
      @williamluebs7538 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Chris Stromberg Bottom line, use aileron into the wind so you touchdown with the longitudinal axis parallel to the runway. I flew B777, B767, B757, etc for a major airline for 33 years. I taught all those airplanes in the sim also for 22 years. We would inject slippery runways with stiff crosswinds. To keep the planes from going off the side of the runway, you use the same technique as GA. Also flew and taught GA in college before flying for the Navy.
      I usually saw that a GA pilot would do a better job in crosswinds on a slippery than their counterpart from the military. In GA, you HAD to fly in crosswinds everyday. The winds much more affected the little guys and I found their technique was often better than the military jocks. They were just dealing with winds on landing 100% of the time.
      In the Navy, the skipper just turned the boat into the wind. Less crosswind as a result.
      I understand VMCG, etc and the aero of the crosswinds. I have a BS and MS in Aero Engineering.

    • @chrisstromberg6527
      @chrisstromberg6527 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent points William. As a CFII/MEI and current Boeing operator I can attest to what you are saying about GA pilots.

    • @williamluebs7538
      @williamluebs7538 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Chris Stromberg Between you and me... I usually found the GA pilot better in crosswinds than the military guy when I was teaching in the 777.. They just had more real plane flying. The military guys had advantages over the GA guys in many other areas, but for just basic crosswind landings on slippery runways, it was much easier for the GA guy to consistently do well. I hope my Navy buddies can't find me. Good luck to you. Bill.

    Not an easy job folks NOT an easy job...!!! They deserve FAR FAR more credit then there given. And that goes for the flight attendants as well not just the pilots. After all they have our LIVES in there hands...(g)

    • @777pusher
      @777pusher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom, it is 85-95% easy and you know it. Like many jobs, you obey technology. Severe weather is troublesome, yes, but pilots are generally trained well enough on Sims that one or two real-time attempts make you proficient enough.
      Yes, lives at stake, so thanks to pilots doing their jobs, and thanks to my Uber drivers for doing theirs too!

    I loved riding in DC-10's as a passenger and enjoyed the pilots skill and hands in this video. As an amateur aviation enthusiast, I wonder how pilots who've flown both aircraft types compared the handling of the planes after the DC-10 cockpits were converted to MD-11 instrumentation, as I assume this plane was.

    Aero 101... It keeps the longitudinal axis of any plane right down the center. Right at touchdown, when the speeds are high, you will prevent the nose crabbing into the wind. On a dry runway, it feels like a crummy landing. On a wet, slippery or icy runway, keeping the longitudinal axis parallel with the runway prevents loss of control and departing the runway.

    Das ist schon sehr interessant, wie da bei der MD 11 im Landeanflug noch gearbeitet werden muss... Sie ist schon sehr speziell, aber mir gefällt sie einfach. Ich hoffe doch sehr, dass man diese Maschinen, trotz Ausflottung, noch ein paar Jahre am Himmel und auf dem Boden sehen kann. Unter wirtschaftlichen Aspekten betrachtet, hat sich die LCAG, glaube ich, mit der B 777F für die wohl beste und effizienteste Frachtmaschine, die es derzeit auf dem Markt gibt, als Nachfolger der MD 11 entschieden. Und mal ganz ehrlich: Schön ist dieser große Vogel ja auch... Vielen Dank jedenfalls an PilotsTubeHD für dieses großartige und spannende Video! Wirklich toll!

      Die kommenden Versionen der B777 sind wirklich anspruchsvoll und state-of -the-Art . Ich frage mich, ob die neuen vorhandenen Fahrgast 777 ersetzen wird , und wenn die vorhandenen Fahrgast 777 wird Frachtflugzeuge werden . Liebte die DC-10 trotz einiger schrecklich stürzt ab. You pick a spot on the runway and aim for it. If you've ever seen colored lights off to the side of the runway they provide the pilot with feedback so he knows if he is too high or too low on the glide path.

      I could've aced it.
      No problem. In a storm with no runway lights. Heavy bird strike also with 500 gallons of spilled oil on the runway!! With one hand tied behind my back all while some kid in the back screaming crying. 🤣👍
      Just kidding, but I am a skilled pilot.

      Yea it is, I saw an old video of a pilot doing his last KLM MD-11 landing and same thing there.

    Why is it that some instruments momentarily black out or just flash like crazy?

    • @musicalaviator
      @musicalaviator 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      pretty much any camera pointed at a CRT monitor does that.

      It's because it's continuously scanning so fast that a human eye can't see it.

      The frequencies are close between the camera and the screen or display.
