This was the first OMAM song I ever listened to. A few months before I discovered the band, I heard this song playing in a shopping mall. Instantly I fell in love with it, and scoured every site I could to find what it was called, (although the only word of it I remembered was "Lionheart".) The same day I gave up looking, my mother discovered the song and listened to it to see if she should put it on her travel playlist. I remember that upon hearing the first few notes of the guitar, I catapulted from the couch at the melody, sprinted to the computer, and screamed, "MOM! WHATEVER YOU DO, KEEP THAT SONG PLAYING!" I'm proud to say that my mother introduced me to the band that changed my life.
When i was 28, I went through a true dark night of the soul... The only thing i was able latch on to sustain hope was this music, and it's absolutely what saw me through. One day I will thank them in person.
I always seem to come back to this song. When I was a kid, my dad left to work overseas. We still called and spoke, but things weren’t the same. Before he left he made my grandpa and me a CD, and this is one of the last songs I remember from it. I’m in my ceramics class overseas, years after leaving the same place he left. Our teacher plays music and this came on.
This bands songs ALL manage to touch me on a deeply personal level. They've earned a special place in my heart forever. So deeply nostalgic, and yet somehow hopeful. To that one commenter that said it seems like all of OMaM's songs sound like they're part of the same journey, just different bits and pieces of it- you are right on. It's so special.
Awesome lyrics especially the line when she says "as the world will come to end i'll be here to hold ur hand cause your my king and i'm ur lionheart" i love this song and love the lyrics even more
I feel like there is a deeper meaning to the city that is shown in both videos. I really want them to make a movie or some thing with all these Nordic style videos.

I was In Iceland yesterday. I arrived on Monday! Iceland is such an amazing place. The scenery is amazing. I kept singing OMAM songs when I was there. It just felt right.
This is a theme song for siblings. It doesn't matter who you are or how far away you may be, even with someone who isn't really your sibling but you think of them as one. This is your theme song.
I couldn't give less of a shit. I came here for good music and good lyrics which I can subjectively experience, not for some subliminal message about the singer's family relationships. Not to undermine said singer's humanity, of course.
I remember my dad playing this song 5 years ago and i loved it and know i can say: It is the best song i have ever heard. Not only the sound but the lyrics and the tunes are just everything!
I think it's about this kingdom who's runned by a betreyal. The boy in the music video (in the other video) is the real heir, the king, but someone stopped that from happening, and decided to run the kingdom themselves. The girl is her sister who's the lionheart. She's taught him never to run away or to give up; she taught him how to be brave.
This song inspires me with the courage to conquer all of my fears. Howlings ghosts, mountains stacked with fear, creatures lurking beneath the deck of the sea that's painted black, or even if the world is coming to an end, none of it matters, I'll face it all, and get through it, because you're my king and I'm your lionheart.
This song feels like the end credits to the last episode of your favorite show. Everything is wrapping up, the damage the villain may have done is starting to go undone. The hero is walking through the town or maybe even is made a memorial if they couldnt see their happy ending in life. Everyone is happy that everything is over. The sun shines overhead. Hope is restored
This video was amazing. It's so simple but I love it. The thunder, the sky getting darker, the city getting further and further away, and the reveal in the end, when we see the two figures standing, staring back at the city.
Every song that Of Monsters and Men have ever done is my favorite seriously, I’ve been listening to them ever since I heard one of their songs on 107.7 the End in Seattle like 15 years ago!
I don't know why the best part only appears once "as the world comes to an end, I'll be here to hold your hand". The whole song is just the best part of it anyways :p
Very, very late, but I think the reason that lyric only appears once is to give it more impact! Breaking repetition in poetry and in songs brings a lot of attention to the line that breaks that repetition, and it's a common (and effective!) technique to really help drive home the point!
I feel like their whole album tells a story, I'm missing some of the songs (which could easily be added in) but here what I have so far: the story is being told of 2 children who are trapped in a war zone (dirty paws). They flee the town and later on find strength and happiness in being together (mountain sound). They get captured and separated by the bad guys (king and lion heart). A while later they are both free and reunite in their new forms (little talks).
When it was stormy, this song scared it away. When I was saddened, this song made me have hope again. When I lost hope, you helped me bring this song to my life.
Watch the videos in this order: 1) King and Lionheart (Lyric Video) 2) King and Lionheart (Music Video) 3) Little Talks (Lyric Video) 4) Little Talks (Music Video)
This was my best friends favorite song for a while. She one did some weird thing where yelled you’re the king and I’m the lion heart! And then we chased each other around the field. That was a long time ago...
"And as the world comes to an end I'll be here to hold your hand" You see this? This is the music I've been looking for! Such amazing singers with music that holds the deepest meaning I have ever seen!!I love OMOM so much!!!
I have all three of their albums. I love how the songs have a deep meaning behind them. The music is real they appear to be having fun. Thank you of Monsters and Men, I listen to afew songs everyday. They are very talented, and I feel they are down to earth and humble in life.
In the lyrics, when it say, "but your the king and I'm the lionheart" I believe it means that, the main singer is saying to her little brother that he is so important that he is like a king to her, and the lionheart means that she is the lionheart, she will protect him and make sure she's safe. And most of the rest of the lyrics, such as the sea of black or the wall fear(something like that) , means that it's scary, the walls and the sea is frightening to the girl and the boy.
I think the creatures below the deck might represent what they're afraid of, be what you make of it, I think it's very much open to each individual's personal interpretation. I think it's the fear of losing the other person, but this song shows that no matter what you're afraid of, somehow you'll make it through together and weather the storm. It's one of my favourite songs, and it'll always mean a lot to me.
There is something about this band that reaches beyond the intellect to something ancient and primal. It feels so familliar and yet so long ago. Genetic memory, or preincarnation, I don't have the language to express it.
Guys, they're making a lyric video for each song on the album, releasing one every day. Expect more! Also, I love your songs OMAM!! You guys are really awesome. Hello from Argentina!
The song is about a couple that experience hardship/winter night sky(winter is thought to be the hardest season to survive), as every couple would. They see other couples break up over the hardship(ran away from the issues), but do to the strong loving heart(king) & a brave heart(lionheart) they endure the hardship and even conquer distance for their love.
It's actually a bit of a metaphor. Nanna said the song is about her (the lionheart) and her little brother (the king). When their parents divorced, her dad took him to Canada and she stayed in Iceland with her mom.
When i first heard this song when it came out it made me cry because the music video and lyrics made me think of me and my little brother. Now years later, and many shitty events, this song means so much more to me. We got separated due to some family issues but we're still very close. He's not in a better home and I feel like I cant do much about it other than hope that what i taught him will help him through this. He's my little king and I'm a lionheart.
This lyric video brings me back childhood memories where I loved the rain, and I loved how rainy days would create a sense of atmosphere. (Particularly in the books I read such as Little Fur, and Fairy Foals.)
Today first time I hear their music After listening I m thinking how could I miss them so many years You guys are so amazing...... Keep doing great music....
Lyrics Taking over this town, they should worry But these problems aside I think I taught you well That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run And in the winter night sky ships are sailing Looking down on these bright blue city lights And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait We're here to stay, we're here to stay, we're here to stay Howling ghosts they reappear In mountains that are stacked with fear But you're a king and I'm a lionheart A lionheart His crown lit up the way as we moved slowly Past the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind Though far away, though far away, though far away We're still the same, we're still the same, we're still the same Howling ghosts they reappear In mountains that are stacked with fear But you're a king and I'm a lionheart And in the sea that's painted black Creatures lurk below the deck But you're a king and I'm a lionheart And as the world comes to an end I'll be here to hold your hand Cause you're my king and I'm your lionheart Lionheart Lionheart A lionheart Lionheart A lionheart Lionheart A lionheart Lionheart Howling ghosts they reappear In mountains that are stacked with fear But you're a king and I'm a lionheart. And in the sea that's painted black Creatures lurk below the deck But you're a king and I'm a lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart A lionheart I love this song 🎵 💕
reminds me of my god father and I's relationship. used to listen to this all the time before going out with him, reminds me specifically of the time I took care of him while he was sick, I held his hand and laid with him. The next morning I got sick and he was feeling better so he took care of me. We kept getting each other sick because we wanted to make sure we were both cared for, Laughed so hard about it once we were both better. He'd always call me tiger stripe that's why I loved this song, it reminded me of us sm. rediscovered it the other day and fuck I miss him like hell. (1961-2016)
When they came out I was serving in the Army. Fell in love with these lyrics and melodies, would drive from 12 am to 3-4 am on days off in blizzards of northwestern Quebec just having their cd on repeat, the music complemented the thick snowflakes in the blizzard landing on the windshield and melting, so soothing. Always remember that with my Tim Hortons Hot Chocolate at -35 C just giving in my car lol
I got to know their songs just before my grandfather passed away after 15 years of paralysis. I fellt very lost. But they music guiede me into a journey of recovery, overcoming reinvention and finding peace. These songs saved my soul at that time. Thank you so much Of Monsters, you don't know the value that your music has for me.
Is there really going to be someone by my side to hold my hand as I fall asleep? This song gets me thinking every time I listen... There are no words... It’s a sad story to be told. Although I am very young, I understand some things... and I worry. I often think about my loved ones and my precious friends (I don’t have much because I’m kinda different, mentally, my thoughts are different than most others, and children don’t accept me often) because I know my time is running out. Dear OMAM, thank you for every song you brought me. That’s why you’re one of the things that make me carry on. You have a special place in my heart, and don’t worry, I won’t forget you. Actually you’re one of the most interesting people I have ever heard of. I hope one day we meet. Yes. One day...
I don´t know why every time I listen to the songs of OMAM give me an immense desire to explore everything, not only the earth but the universe, it may be impossible something of the universe, but if I leave my borders and see there is beyond. ..
am i the only one who thinks that this song should have been involved somewhere in the hobbit movies??? i mean, come on, the lyric, "and as the world comes to an end, i'll be there to hold your hand," that's literally a scene in botfa.
hannah hartless that's exactly what i meant actually, congrats :) fili was the heir to the throne, not kili, so the "king" bit wouldn't make sense, and tauriel isn't as much "lionheart" as she is "loyal lover," imho.
OMAM makes songs, that suit my life, I like to call the songs, the story of my life. It's kinda because I've always been that cute kid, that's not very social, and lonely. Also I lost 3 best friends, and this saddens me alot.
Music is a great way to relieve struggles. The only two things that can truly do this for me is music and video games, the latter of which is more distracting than anything, and is sometimes ineffective. In music I can become lost in my own thoughts without dwelling on the negativity I see around me. However, because I usually like to connect myself with the music I listen to, I can be quite picky with what music I actually like xD
This song reminds me of everyone who's come beside me and into my life the past few years who've helped me gain confidence, learn how to communicate and interact with others, and helped me become a better, stronger person!! While I still have a long way to go, you've made a world of a difference in my life from what I used to be..thanks for loving me for who I am and helping me break out of my shell!! Thanks to my kings and queens for helping me become more of a lionheart!! #shoutout #personaldevelopment #stronger
+Tobias Holm because it's a song about ghosts, war, friendship so you know I immediately thought of LOTR ! But... The fact LOTR is my favourite movie can sometimes make me a bit bias ^^
Wow, that was awesome. This song has a great message. I love how he's the king and she's the lionheart, and they sort of know that they'll always be there for eachother and they'll never lose eachother. I love the other video for this, too. OMAM is a crazy cool band.
In a world full of Rosalias and Bad Bunnies...I feel so lucky to be able to really enjoy and appreciate such an amazing song from such an amazing band.
I can only see my Dad (king) and I (Lionheart) in this song, he battled against cancer... He battled it... Now he is in another kingdom, waiting to hold my hand.
+okamimo apparently cannabis oil has done some wonders for epilepsy and cancer patients, but it's only an experimental drug. Not much research done on it since cannabis is mostly a banned substance
Now that I know what this song is about it brings a couple tears to my eyes. If my family, and every family in the world at that had just a tenth of the love that Nanna has for her brother, the world would be a much better place.
NovusIgnis ,my parents' marriage is kind of melancholic and apathetic -- and this put us through some melancholic times, a few years ago --,but this has never stopped them of trying to give me and my sister the education we needed to get out of the lower middle class life we live...And my older sister tries to be understanding to my introvert personality, though it can be really hard for her sometimes...And that's why I would move mountains for them... I hope things get better between you and your family, and if they don't,that you can find friends that can be some kind of family to you...You know,in cavalry tales, the Lionheart is the warrior that never surrender,no matter how tough things may get...Just be a Lionheart, and things will get better eventually... :)
NovusIgnis ,then you are kind of lucky too...I mean, some people not only an awful relationship with their families, but also don't have any friends to be their new families...
Whole else feels like that OMAM's songs are all about the same journey, but going to different places throughout the mind? Or is it just me...?
All of the ones with "fantasy" videos yeah, I have been watching the lyric videos and the normal videos for ages to find some connection
So True!
+Adrienne Drinkwater same!

1st born is king and second born is a lionheart
I can see this also being the song of King and Heir. Maybe the son is less suited for being king, but the father understands this and lets him be.
This actually is true because if I remember correctly, that’s what the song was inspired by
@@aamiwaami I think perhaps the second born is the King and the first born is the Lionheart, the throne warden, the protector.

Also the Main singer is soupposing this to what had happens to her in real life, and it was a dark place for her (I believe)

God made me a king. I wish there was love for me to share. Now, I only share my words.
The power of love will be great; greater then the love for power. peace to you my friends. One day, our world will see eye to eye.
This lyric video brings me back childhood memories where I loved the rain, and I loved how rainy days would create a sense of atmosphere. (Particularly in the books I read such as Little Fur, and Fairy Foals.)
Today first time I hear their music
After listening I m thinking how could I miss them so many years
You guys are so amazing......
Keep doing great music....
Lyrics
Taking over this town, they should worry
But these problems aside I think I taught you well
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run
And in the winter night sky ships are sailing
Looking down on these bright blue city lights
And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait
We're here to stay, we're here to stay, we're here to stay
Howling ghosts they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart
A lionheart
His crown lit up the way as we moved slowly
Past the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We're still the same, we're still the same, we're still the same
Howling ghosts they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart
And in the sea that's painted black
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart
And as the world comes to an end
I'll be here to hold your hand
Cause you're my king and I'm your lionheart
Lionheart
Lionheart
A lionheart
Lionheart
A lionheart
Lionheart
A lionheart
Lionheart
Howling ghosts they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
A lionheart
I love this song 🎵 💕
Lyrics on a lyric video..?
This album is incredible
The way the storm rolls in... Artistic yarrrsssss
reminds me of my god father and I's relationship. used to listen to this all the time before going out with him,
reminds me specifically of the time I took care of him while he was sick, I held his hand and laid with him. The next morning I got sick and he was feeling better so he took care of me. We kept getting each other sick because we wanted to make sure we were both cared for, Laughed so hard about it once we were both better.
He'd always call me tiger stripe that's why I loved this song, it reminded me of us sm. rediscovered it the other day and fuck
I miss him like hell.
"Two sides of the same coin" 💚
Merthur 😭
Yes. One day...
This band along with “Mumford and sons” and “kings of Leon” made up 80% of what I listened to growing up
I'm writing a book and this song is what inspired me to write it
Oh, that's nice.
Lucas Cartwright I'm writing a book to I listen to omam for a jumpbost
I don´t know why every time I listen to the songs of OMAM give me an immense desire to explore everything, not only the earth but the universe, it may be impossible something of the universe, but if I leave my borders and see there is beyond. ..
Ah... This is one of my all-time favourites, together with Your Bones!
Não importa quanto tempo passe, quando ouço essa música são sempre as mesmas emoções.
That castle looks super cool. It reminds me of the castle in Narnia
beautiful music. Comeback after 5 years and its still make me fascinated !
The forever Merthur song.
am i the only one who thinks that this song should have been involved somewhere in the hobbit movies??? i mean, come on, the lyric, "and as the world comes to an end, i'll be there to hold your hand," that's literally a scene in botfa.
You are SOOO right.
Yeah, I can see Tauriel and Kili holding hands while this plays...
I believe it fits thorin and bilbo better
hannah hartless that's exactly what i meant actually, congrats :) fili was the heir to the throne, not kili, so the "king" bit wouldn't make sense, and tauriel isn't as much "lionheart" as she is "loyal lover," imho.
No Blind Guardian should have a song in the Lord of the Rings movies..
their song makes me feel like im inside a fantasy adventure series traveling for whatever reason, it's so magical😭
OMAM makes songs, that suit my life, I like to call the songs, the story of my life. It's kinda because I've always been that cute kid, that's not very social, and lonely. Also I lost 3 best friends, and this saddens me alot.
And I'm literally put down by my mom every week. Taking the only things I care about. Music. This is the only song that explains my pain.
*****
Genes?
I don't know.
***** That's what Doctor Who does for me, hehe.
Once a Gamer allways a Gamer. Been gaming since I was 4
This song reminds me of everyone who's come beside me and into my life the past few years who've helped me gain confidence, learn how to communicate and interact with others, and helped me become a better, stronger person!! While I still have a long way to go, you've made a world of a difference in my life from what I used to be..thanks for loving me for who I am and helping me break out of my shell!! Thanks to my kings and queens for helping me become more of a lionheart!! #shoutout #personaldevelopment #stronger
Um what she said but not quite as dramatic not being mean just not such a big change for me
haha..um, yeah, I can be pretty dramatic..lol...but that's good that you're changing, too!! ^_^ Alpha
Emita A. boring, you need to get out more if this song has such an effect your life must be well dull.....i speak truths
Emita A. sorry just saw your profile, can i get your digits girl
Knownas Hapy oh wow
their music reminds me of the book/movie Where The Wild Things Are. I love it
your music is so beautiful and phenomenal I can feel the beat in my heart and I thank you for it.
This song is bae.
That's rude. This song is nothing like the Dutch word for poop.
Appleness *Danish
this song makes me think of Narnia, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings.
Yaaaaaasssss!!!!
Omg same !!!!!!! That fits perfectly
In what way does this remind you of LOTR?
+Tobias Holm because it's a song about ghosts, war, friendship so you know I immediately thought of LOTR ! But... The fact LOTR is my favourite movie can sometimes make me a bit bias ^^
Makes me think of GoT tbh
I have so much nostalgia hearing this song for the first time in my late teens.
Awesome, hopefully we can get a continuation of the story from Little Talks and King and Lionheart
Thanks for everything that you used to do for me, i really like this song because it makes me cry
Whenever is says "Lionheart" I keep thinking of the fictional character from the book Warriors. Why.
YESSS
Fitty Bak "because your mind is not clean" lol because if you don't think of jesus at all times your mind isn't clean oh ok
Fitty Bak got some issues there. 👎
Celia Villarreal My mind is filthy then :/ damn it
+Fitty Bak we're not ALL religious here
Best song l have ever heard
I can only see my Dad (king) and I (Lionheart) in this song, he battled against cancer... He battled it... Now he is in another kingdom, waiting to hold my hand.
+okamimo do you know anything about canabis oil
Canabis oil? :/ bring me, please, an explanation
+okamimo apparently cannabis oil has done some wonders for epilepsy and cancer patients, but it's only an experimental drug. Not much research done on it since cannabis is mostly a banned substance
+okamimo Man,this one hit a bit too close to home..
+SweetMillefeuille Do you think can work?
Of Monsters and Men and pure ukulele greatness.
I love every song they have done! They are the best!!!!!!!!!!
My absolute favorite song on this album.
Just loved it... #awesome!!!!!!!!!! Of Monsters and Men, you are just amazing guys. Love your music. A big hug all the way from Brazil.
"Cause you're my King and I'm your Lionheart." ❤
Now that I know what this song is about it brings a couple tears to my eyes. If my family, and every family in the world at that had just a tenth of the love that Nanna has for her brother, the world would be a much better place.
I agree...I'm not miles separated from my family but this song gives me shivers...We desagree once in a while, but I would move mountains for them...
Laís A. Ramos you're lucky. My family is all kinds of rage and chaos.
Laís A. Ramos yeah I've got friends. They're my family now.
NovusIgnis ,then you are kind of lucky too...I mean, some people not only an awful relationship with their families, but also don't have any friends to be their new families...
i remember listening to this song, this album, when i was younger and it set my imagination on fire. it still does
I don't understand why people dislike this band they have no taste in music
I love their music so much! Defiantly my favorite band.
