That was a really beautiful video.
You made me love the movie even more. Also i just wanna say that the ending of the trilogy is just brilliantly perfect.
It's an open ending and i like it that the fans can decide for themselves if Bruce died or lived a life with Selina in Italy.
I don't know if i got it correctly but i love it that Batman is not Bruce Wayne, but a Symbol. A Symbol of hope for the citizens of Gotham City.

“How did Batman heal his back so quickly?”
Dude literally spent like 6 months in that prison. It’s not like it was two weeks and he’s out, it was half a year. In real life compression fractures (or broken vertebrae) take 8-10 weeks to heal. That’s less than 3 months max. Batman was in the prison for longer.
This is the dumbest nitpick of this movie.

      It's simple.
      "He's Batman."

    • @RansomeStoddard
      @RansomeStoddard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +55

First, I always assumed Stark had been working on the time travel thing ever since he returned from space. That is why he is so passionate about claiming it can't be done, because he has already been unable to make it work for 5 years.
Second, I don't think anyone's problem with The Dark Knight Returns has anything to do with plot holes. It has more to do with the fact that we got a depressing Batman film that has very little Batman in it. We get a lot of old broken Bruce Wayne, but not much Batman-ing going on the film. In the first film, we don't get much Batman because it's an origin story and it has to build to him becoming Batman. In The Dark Knight, he's already Batman, so we hit the ground running. Batman spends the whole film being Batman. We get our money's worth. But then in The Dark Knight Rises, he suddenly isn't Batman. He's my uncle that won't come to any family events because his hip is bothering him.
But you are correct in that there is a double standard with Marvel and DC. Maybe it's that Marvel has generated enough good will over the last decade that fans are a bit less nit-picky. I am sure if DC were able to string together 18 great films out of 22 attempts, they would get some slack as well.

@@adrianjames5970 I believe they were referring to intolerant and toxic fans within the Dark knight fanbase. I mean, every fanbase has such people. It's nothing exclusive to TDK fanbase in particular. But I firmly believe that fanbase has the least amount of toxic people compared to Raimi and Snyder, mainly because TDK trilogy is not that unfamiliar to younger viewers and is very much appreciated by a big number of people, even if they are huge MCU fans. TDK fans mostly don't think their favourite superhero trilogy is underappreciated. I've met many MCU fans who think The Dark Knight is one of the best superhero movies of all time, maybe even THE best. I am one of those people as well.
However, the last Raimi Spiderman film came out before the MCU even started. 5 years can make a big difference with younger audiences. Maybe it doesn't even have to do anything with age, but in any case that trilogy is less appreciated than TDK trilogy. I believe most people prefer Tom Holland's MCU Spiderman. I guess that drives nostalgic Raimi fans crazy. I see many of them hate Tom Holland's Spidey with a burning fashion. Tbh, I'm not a big fan either. I think he does a great job, but Jon Watts as director doesn't really, or whoever is to blame. Anyway, this creates conflict between Raimi and MCU fans.
However, I believe that conflict is nowhere near as strong as that between Snyder and MCU fans. At least with Raimi and MCU fans it's still all Marvel. Snyder fans are DC fans, and we all know about Marvel and DC's long (and stupid) competition. Snyder fans aren't driven by nostalgia like Raimi fans, nor only contrasted with MCU fans regarding one single character (Spiderman). They are driven by jealousy and non-conformity (which is a good thing taken on its own terms) compared to MCU which is more popular and successful than DCEU, and it's not just about one character as I said, but about the entire vision and style of films. I often hear Snyder fans saying that MCU fans are dumb.

"How did Batman's back heal so quickly?"
This critique has always pissed me off.
People always say that Bane broke Batman's back. The thing is he technically didn't. He simply dislocated a vertabrae from his spine. No bones were broken or even fractured.
It's very similar to a dislocated arm. Once it's dislocated, you can no longer use it. But all you have to do to fix it is to put it back. After you do, it heals extremely fast.
For a dislocated vertabrae, all you need to do is to put it back and then it'll be better in few days since the back is more serious. Of course, it's painful as hell.
Remember that Bruce stayed in the pit for several months.
But the important thing is that no bones were broken or fractured, only dislocated.
So saying Bane is "the man who broke the bat" is technically wrong. It should be "the man who dislocated the bat."
But break sounds better so keep it that way.

@@user-iy7jo7bq4f first of all, Bruce travelled around the world for about 7 years BEFORE he even became Batman right? Even THEN, he didn't have cash, contact, or anything. Remember, he was hiding the fact that he was Bruce Wayne. So now, I'm guessing that he already knew a lot about how to travel around the world. Maybe he even made a contact that could get him home. He had a little over three weeks to get back to Gotham. Gotham is near the ocean and a boat trip from Gotham to his location from the pit only takes 2 weeks. Plus, when he escaped from the pit, there was a city, so he didn't have to go far to get to civilization. So three weeks plus his previous experience in traveling without anything satisfies me enough to explain how he got back. Tbh, I'm glad they didn't show that, that would have been boring.
As for Bane's troops, none of Bane's troops were there. The prison was unguarded because it was deemed impossible to escape so no one would have told Bane. Plus, he's Batman, I'm pretty sure he knows how to stay hidden and not alert anyone.

And by your logic, Spiderman has fought with Galactus and lived; could he say he had experience in fighting cosmic gods as if it was some accomplishment??? That experience doesn't matter because it was a complete failure.
Bruce's last and the only other experience in travel alone went out of control, so I don't know how this example makes a good explanation.

For example, each phase 1 movie of the mcu are very different from each other with little nods or subtle hints at the greater universe. Iron man 1 was a techno thriller, incredible hulk was a sci fi, Frankenstein monster movie, thor was a low fantasy film, Capt America the first Avenger is a pulp fiction, ww2 historical film and the Avengers is the ultimate crossover with superhero, alien invasion and techno genres blended in. Each movie has a vision and asthetic of their own that makes them stand out. So it is possible to have a movie made with a unique vision that is set in a shared universe

"One man or the entire mob. He can wait"
Ultimately this movie also deals with the depression of a very imperfect man. Batman's desperation for a normal relationship with Rachel Dawes and a quick end to the mob made him not take the Joker seriously at the beginning of TDK. He also fails to fight for the greater good when he is given the choice to either save Rachel or Dent. Probably realizing that the Joker proved in that instant that he cared more about himself. The orphans of Gotham and the whole city suffer in TDKR as a result of his lie to cover up the truth and his spiral into apathy and despair. Then his realization that Rachel did not choose him makes him commit another mistake of revealing the location of the nuclear reactor to Miranda for whom he clings in desperation.
A movie about a man looking for a second chance at life and finding it. Making epic mistakes but also making the ultimate sacrifice in the end and even giving a great part of his fortune away like Andrew Carnegie (contrasted in some way with Howard Hughes) That is why it is the best in the trilogy.

When they show the last shot of Batman prior to the explosion, he has already ejected from the vehicle into a safety pod of some sort.(Kind of similar to how a fighter jet pilot might eject into a smaller pod if the jet had been shot down or at risk of crashing.)

He could've easily walked to that village/city, got in contact with someone he knew(Probably Lucious Fox) and got him to send a plane to take him near the outskirts of Gotham. Once near Gotham, he could've easily snuck his way into Wayne Manor or a secret hideout(where he was keeping his "Bat" flying vehicle) and then begin setting his plan in motion. He is Batman after all...he should be pretty fuckin' good at sneaking around without being detected. Banes army were only controlling a portion of the city after all...so there would be no reason for Bruce to *not* have access to some of the things he needed to fight back.

Thank you for expressing everything I've been saying for years and reminding me why it is one of my all time greatest films to this day. You made me remember the feeling I had when I left the theater and why I love this movie so much. It does inspire and touches my soul to the core of the true meaning of what Batman is. It ignites the passion and love for what makes the Bat all that he is and I thank you for reviving that again. Incredible and inspiring yourself. Bless you. And Bless The Dark Knight Rises. 🦇

The CIA wasn't incompetent, it was just that Bane had them set up and thrived on the fact that they couldn't just kill him because he was a wanted terrorist. The agents didn't know that the man who handed Bane and his men over was working for them anyways.

Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Prestige, Memento, Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and even Insomnia are all objectively better crafted films and aren't retreads of anything else.
I haven't seen Following, so I can't say Rises is worse... but it's possible.

Storytellers has started a 3 part video essay on The Dark Knight Triology and I can see a new video essay about these films in youtube atleast once in every two months . People are keep on talking about these movies even after its 7 seven years since the last movie of the series released . I believe movie lovers can't stop talking about these wonderful movies till the end of the time .

Update: Rewatched it. Still my least favorite of the three due to the broader message and theme being a lot messier than the previous two (Wisecrack explained it better than I ever could) and Bane's character being messed with towards the end of the movie, but besides that, it's a really great, effective movie. Love all the stuff going on with Batman, Catwoman, Alfred, Gordon, and Detective Blake, and I thought the ending was very satisfying. 9/10 for me.

Tdkr is literally a plot straight out of a comic book. Its so good

    • @suarezguy

That the plot is from a comic book doesn't make it good, not all comic books are good and even the plots that are don't necessarily work later and/or in different format.

I like trilogy as a whole. My nitpick is the fighting was too slow, the end fight against Bane should have been more climatic as it seemed so rehearsed.
