    We were doing a live online estate sale at an 1800's farmhouse when one of their chickens walked up and popped one out in a planter for everyone to see. We signed it and sold it for $1 as per a request! 😁 🤣❤️

    This was so fun to watch 😁 for the pool noodle, you could tape ir together so that the egg stays in place and won't slip out.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes def! a good suggestion. We have about 2/3 of the pool noodle back and if we use it to ship eggs we will def. be taping it closed on the ends.

    Best Egg packing video EVER! Good job! I swear, it seems like deliverymen Hit em' with a sledge hammers lol! I think half of the eggs I sent completely were destroyed! One seemed to have been in a boxing match! I think, no matter what, sending them specially FRAGILE is very important too! Reminds me of the time in school we had to come up with different ways to have an egg drop off the top of the building without it breaking! Good test cause I know some of the company's we ship through chuck packages at the wall ha! Pebbles is getting soo big now!

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pebbles is probably getting pretty close to full grown monster. I would hope that disgruntled post office worker would be nicer if he could hear actual live chicks hatching. I feel like thats too much. I kind of get the fragile sticker being a target for some stress relief. I've heard that not even marking them fragile can leave them with better treatment.

  • @OddPaw

    I think the big thing with the pool noodles is dependent on the cost of the noodle vs the cost of egg cartons. How many eggs can you pack into 1 noodle? If you went somewhere like a dollar store, could you maybe find the noodles for $1? I have no idea. lol But around here, egg cartons are $.40-50/each so if you can't find noodles for less than $5 then the egg cartons are probably the better option.
    This was a fun video to watch, you guys were clearly having a blast!

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We actually had to call like 5-6 different places before we found any pool noodles at all! I imagine in the winter it could become pretty difficult to find them. Dollar tree was the first call I made because I was thinking dollar store pool noodles would be by far the best value. I don't think you'd be able to ship more than 12 or so with one noodle. But we haven't had to buy cartons for years most people know what we're up to and save them up for us and just give them to us.

    I shipped with full of bubble wrap but it is crack when it reach to costumer

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      whew 50-80 eggs is a ton of eggs!! I am not sure how to ship that many! the biggest flat rate box the post office has is large size and fits 3 dozen. I would think that shipping 80 eggs safely would require a really big box and it would end up so heavy the cost of shipping would be so very expensive

    The most common number shipped is 12 + 1 or 2. Big difference between 4 egg weight. Much more kinetic energy involved. I’ve had good luck and bad luck with just breakage. The best I’ve received was double bubble wrap in shredded paper. I had some shipped last week in foam cut out that 6 of the 14 were broke not just cracked. Wyandotte eggs they seem to be thin shells vs Maran eggs. I have both and Maran eggs are always thicker unless the hens are getting old.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well since we ship eggs using the method that came out the best in the experiment, we don't really have to repeat with a dozen or more eggs since we know how they do getting shipped all the way across the country.

  • @brianandlynphilippines

    I have had eggs delivered or held at the post office. It is sad how they smash the boxes and eggs, really does make one wonder how they manage to inflict so much damage. My grandparents, RIP, retired from the PO, so I know not all those employees are psycho's, but there must be a lot of them by my experience.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we sometimes will have boxes lost in the mail and the longer a box is in transit the more likely it is to be received on the other end smashed to smitherines . We have also pretty much concluded that the more you write "fragile" or "handle with care" on a box the more likely that box will be treated to some extra abuse :( we try to just let the boxes go and pack as well as we can and hope for the best! but if they get lost and spend 3 weeks in a sorting facility, there isn't really much hope :(
