as a random fact, this kind of setting is called 'solarpunk' and it is an optimistic look at post apocalyptical scenarios in which humankind will survive and learn to recreate civilization without getting in conflict with the environment
@@basicsimp8798 humans have been on earth for millions of years. So yes. If a 2000 warhead scenario happend proably 90% of the human race would starve to death but there would be survivors.
It did. Only reason I clicked the thumbnail. But after watching a couple minutes that comparison seems to drop away as it looks to me like the underlying theme is just wasted and the art isn't nearly as good as the thumbnail made me think. Like someone offered awesome, delicious food, but actually provided lame, tasteless gruel. Love Nausicaa, but this looks extra meh
YES!!! Thank you Mike! We agree and on a game I love too, definitely Distinction level. ❤️ Like you, I'm a tactical gamer. Give me mini scenarios that I have to puzzle out, it's why Ark Nova sings to me a lot. This one is beautiful, great components, simple rules and a fun time! Yes it should have had a player aid and score pad though honestly the symbology is really intuitive to figure out for most of what's in there. I don't need to check the rulebook for any card ever now. But someone will make one eventually. Theme.... Yeah I'm a lover of theme and all but I knew from first glance this was going to be an abstracted game so I gloss over that especially when it looks this gorgeous. Big hit for me, thanks for grabbing that Excellence seal! 🏆✌️
This was the best game we played at BGG Con, easily. This is one of those weird games where Toms criticisms could be applied to many of his favorites. I’m surprised this wasn’t more of a hit for him and Zee.
Smooth game, but after few plays, i can say it, 9/10 is a way too good of a note. For once, i'm more around Tom here, a 7, 7.5 out of 10 is more accurate. The major problem with this game is the scoring. There's not much of a big differences with the scoring, and in the end, it's going to be the one with the highest scoring cards on the left of his play area that will win the game (especially if he put his last village first so he get the +5vp bonus token...) It's a shame, coz the game could have been much better with a better scoring system and more tension into it and the overall game. Cheers
I haven’t played it at 2, but the only difference is that you treat the Elemental Card market (the 4 on display, plus the top of the deck) as your other neighbor when evaluating your card play.
I'm still wondering if the 2 player variant isn't better because you and your opponent both manipulate the 3rd hand. Control over your neighbor and one you hope does what you want. Maybe I'm going to try it for a more than 2 player game once and see how it works
A homerule that could tighten the game and make the cards in hand matter more is to play them face-up for all to see (or leave only one facedown for your eyes only, to keep the mystery alive 😁). I haven't played this yet, but it seems to me that having hidden information here hurts player interaction. Even if hands weren't hidden, this game still shouldn't be particularly aggressive, so it's not gonna fundamentally change the game. What this tweak does is it adds another layer of importance to what element you pick to use or draft and when. Trying to avoid incidentally helping your neighbors too much while getting the most out of your cards makes for crunchier decisions and more interaction, imo. I'll be getting this soon and I'll try it both ways. I just don't see a downside to this tweak though, am I missing something?
Very interested in this, Mike’s passion convinced me it seems like one that would just click with me too. (Looks to the internet to see when the game is available in North America.) Q3 next year…oh.
I love tactical games. Tactical might as well be synonymous to varied gameplay as you never know whats coming and thats exciting...and sometimes can be frustrating but thats part of the excitement.
This is one of those games that has what I can the "illusion of strategy". It appears you are able to make choices, but the end result is primarily determined by what cards you and your opponents draw from the deck.
No that's the illusion of illusion of strategy. It's like Poker. You think it's random but it's not. There' s not an infinite number of Aces or 2s in the deck. It's all about probability and adaptability. It's reading the other players and making decisions about probability.
Thanks for this. I thought I wanted to own this game and now I KNOW I want to own it. Thanks again Mike for being my go-to for game recommendations. Wish I could play games with you and talk about them because you're the only one who gets what I like abou gaming anymore.
I love the look Mike gives the camera when he’s politely waiting to disagree with someone 🤣 I really want to give this one a try

So real life?
That is a nice fact! Thanks 😊
@@TabletopFamilyLOL, really? You think that's possible in real life? 😂

Anyone else getting Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind vibes from the theme?
That’s exactly the thought I had when I saw this.
Yup, I was thinking that right away.

This one does seem popular with gamers so far.
How does this play at 2? Is there a “variant” where you rotate the cards of a shadow 3rd player to use as a neighbor for both people?
I haven’t played it at 2, but the only difference is that you treat the Elemental Card market (the 4 on display, plus the top of the deck) as your other neighbor when evaluating your card play.
It works just as well with 2 as with 3 or 4 players! Like Mike said, you use the card market as a third player.
That’s a lot simpler than I was thinking, thanks!
The two player variant is great and very simple. 2-3 is the sweet spot.
I'm still wondering if the 2 player variant isn't better because you and your opponent both manipulate the 3rd hand. Control over your neighbor and one you hope does what you want. Maybe I'm going to try it for a more than 2 player game once and see how it works
I wish they hadn't reused the same artwork on different cards
Mike is just listening to them thinking, yeah what ever guys, this deserves more than a seal of approval.

For some reason NA seems to be the low priority for games produced in Europe. Maybe the games don't sell as well here?
This video was just begging for a Chris Yi shout, “Tribes of the Wind, Bullseye!”
