Omg same here! I just woke up and had this strange feeling that I was meant to be a FA... And the Cons don't look too bad to me, after thinking about it... It seems the perfect job!
Hi Becca, I’ve been a flight attendant for a little over 20 years now and for the most part you hit the nail on the head in your description of a flight attendants job and it’s benefits however I do have to correct you on a couple of things. The pay, although it is true that in your first few years the pay is below the cost of living worthy, the longer you stay the more you make. When I started back in 2000 I was making roughly $18-20K per year. After 5 years it went up a considerable amount and every year after a little more until you reach a full pay cap (in my company it’s the 13 year mark) making around $65k a year more or less (I have colleagues making 6 figures) depending on how many hours you choose to fly (with each new contract that amount goes up). That brings me to another correction. The more you fly the more control you have on where and when you fly. You get to control your schedule and have consistency in your life. Seniority is everything in the aviation works. Earn it and you’ll have control of it. Glad to know you enjoyed it for the most part. Not easy being new and in reserve but if you stick it through for a few years it’s life changing. Good luck on your future adventures.
Thanks for this!! I think I mentioned in the video that unless you are wanting to be an FA as a lifelong career (which I didn't) then the pay is pretty bad. For those who want to stay in the industry despite growing a family and kids, then more power to them! I knew I only wanted to be an FA for a couple years, which is what I think most people aim to do when being an FA for a season and not as a career. I'm glad you are enjoying it and that you've got the seniority to work with - that's awesome! xo
Sounds like the job just was not for you. My wife is an FA. She absolutely loves her job! She works for a great company and does get paid very well. Training was 8 weeks, but it is absolutely necessary to assure the safety of the passengers. She gets her schedule a month in advance and her "on call" days are scheduled in a block. She can trade flights with other FA's and pick up flights someone else does not want. She is gone most of the time but our kids are big so it is not an issue. If someone has small kids it would be tough for the spouse at home. You are correct that the dress code needs to be adhered too but I understand why. In the end it is a personal choice.
Brian Hall hi If you don’t mind me asking a couple questions (been thinking about becoming a flight attendant :)) how long has she been a flight attendant? Which state is she based in? Is she a reserve flight attendant?
Regardless I researched it just like some of the other videos I saw. They tell you from experience pay is crap. They pay for airfare sure. But u only get two chances. Ans I struggled in school so if I pass interview ansnmake ir to training and I screw up on a test I'm stuck I have no money to get back because they wonr help you out!
PROS: 1. get paid to travel (airlines pay for a portion of your food and hotel, on work trips) 2. the spontaneous lifestyle (exciting to go to a new place or meet new people) 3. special treatments by airport (domestic flights let you pack things passengers don't like shampoos and food. cut lines, no queues. dicounts on items) 4. the uniform (gives a sense of pride, feeling of importance, priority access) 5. cemrederie with other flight attendants. bond between airline crew members, meeting new people. CONS: 1. low salary + airlines don't pay for trips other than work trips or if you're allocated another base 2. the spontaneous lifestyle (stressful, unpredictable and can be inconvenient. eg. standby duty which makes you unavailable for many events like weddings or meet ups with friends because you don't know your schedule ) 3. a month to two months training. strict rules like uniform, makeup, certain high heels or certain length of skirt, many tests and drills. becca's airline did not allow trainees to fail 2 times or more (under 90%). training or dress code is paid by air stewardess. 4. the uniform (expensive, get in trouble for not wearing makeup, skirt length too short, hair is not neat, look professional ) 5. being away from family and friends
All ur cons were actually pros for me I don’t attach to anybody so i can easily go anywhere cuz nobody needs me to hang out or bdays My family do not meet up or celebrate bdays Or studying and etc i love
Very refreshing to hear a REALISTIC view of what it’s like to be a new-hire FA! It only gets better & better the more seniority you get. Start young & stick with it!
My brother is a pilot. I have so much respect for them and flight attendants. I just don't think I could ever live that lifestyle. I prefer to have a set schedule and to have the ability to take time off when I want etc.
Hi Aurora, it’s true when you begin a career as a flight attendant or pilot you are on a reserve status with little to no control over your schedule. However, the more years you put in the more seniority you accumulate the more control your schedule and your life you’ll have. I’m 20 years in and pick my schedule the month prior I begin the following months schedule so I can plan my appointments, outings, my vacations, etc. In this industry it’s all about seniority and if you stick it through the first tough few years the rewards just keep getting better
my mother was a flight attendant at one point and she highly suggested it for me and now i really want to become one now and i don’t mind the life style and i feel like i would enjoy it very much
My daughter is an Emirates flight attendant and every single thing you said is so true! She loves the actual job ( maybe not the constant 2am wake up calls) but shes very homesick and misses her family. Shes from Australia so a looong way way away.
Thank you SO much for this video! I've been on the fence about being a flight attendant, and you have definitely made the BEST video about the pros and cons I have seen! I think too many people who stop being crew members wait too long to quit and get a bit bitter and their videos are pretty negative. I love your upbeat and bubbly vibe--it really shows why you wanted to be one in the first place. And why you were probably really good at your job! Well done on you for knowing yourself well enough to know when it was time to tap out before you were too burned out and bitter. And a huge thank you for being a big influence on my decision--you struck just the right chord. And we're very similar. I appreciate you making this video very much!!
I dated someone who was a FA and all the cons you listed for why you stopped being a FA is the reason why it actually didn’t work out. FAs really don’t make a lot of money so he always picked up trips so that he could make extra money. He wasn’t really interested in leaving to find better paying job or if he did he would miss traveling for free. We couldn’t always spend weekends together like other couples do since he would be on 3-5 day trips. And finally, he seriously was caught up in the FA lifestyle. I don’t blame young professionals for taking advantage of being in a beautiful country or popular town and wanting to go out and party but it sorta sucks when you’re home and you see your bf/gf on an island or exploring a town with their crew and then go out to a bar/club afterwards. For women dating men that are FAs, you also can’t be overly jealous that your bf mighttttt have a lot of female friends bc let’s face it.... majority of FAs are women. So if your bf does decide to go out with a young crew, he’s most likely going to be going out with other women which in turn can make you a little jealous. In all, this video is very true to the FA lifestyle and I have heard many FAs love their jobs. Best of luck to all the people trying to be FAs!
Hi Jennifer sorry to hear of your experience dating a flight attendant. It’s definitely challenging specially when they are fairly new to the industry. It’s true when you begin a career as a flight attendant or pilot you are on a reserve status with little to no control over your schedule. However, the more years you put in the more seniority you accumulate the more control your schedule and your life you’ll have. I’m a 👩🏻⚕️ nurse and was thinking of a career change as a flight attendant but it seems like a lot more to get into that profession, thanx for the pros & cons 👍 great video btw.
Wow always thought I was a bit odd for this I am a nursing student too and had always thought of a career into a flight attendant but i think nursing is good when settling down.
LOL... I am a nurse who quit being a flight attendant to become a nurse! But, don’t be easily discouraged, Amy. With your nursing background, you’d be a shoo-in! And, even as a new hire, you get to bid on schedules you’d like which gives you room to plan on perhaps working as a part time nurse. I knew one woman in my training class who was a dental hygienist who kept working as one during her days off from flying. Once you have seniority, you’ll be able to accommodate your schedule much more comfortably.
Way to go on deciding what kind of person you want to be and going for it!- While also deciding what environment you don't want to be in and changing that! I think a lot of people are too afraid to leave their jobs that they're just not fulfilled in because it's familiar. I admire that about you, Lady!!
The cons are the perfect example of why being a flight attendant isn’t ideal for me. It also feels like when traveling for fun, it’s more like “been there, done that.”
I'm in medical school and was thinking of changing my career to become a flight attendant, thank you for sharing your experience! I loved the cons, they aren't cons if the job suits you, seems as the job was not for you. Everything you talked about was exciting!
Tracy Walsh exactly!! I still decided to do it even though there were cons. And it was WORTH IT for me 🥰 Wishing you well on your new journey in the skies 🌌 ✈️
Operez: It used to be a fantastic job way back in the 60s and 70s .......being a flight attendant back then was some thing special....they hired high quality individuals back then and therefore treated them well as well ie giving them longer lay overs in destinations and also the $$$ was way better too. All of that has changed, the airlines know that there are millions of pretty boys and girls who want this job and so the flight attendants are replaceable easily. Airlines now are in it to make big bucks and so that means longer work hours and less pay. It still is special to be a flight attendant because the demand for it is so high. There could be ten job openings but a 10000 people apply for them!!
Yeah but remember that this is the opinion of ONE person. I know lots of people that absolutely love the job. YOU should be the one to judge whether you want to do it or not. You should watch some positive stories as well as negative ones!
Operez94 I flew for 2 years for a North American carrier. Hated it. If you like being paid pennies to feel crushing anxiety, loneliness, frustration, thanklessness and constant humiliation, do it. If you respect yourself enough, don’t do it. Most of my colleagues had to have second jobs to survive.
I’ve always wanted to be a flight attendant since I was at least 6 because whenever I went on airplanes I’ve just loved the way you dress and it’s just different! This was helpful! :)
I feel there's so much to ask. I've thought about giving flight attending a try and get to see parts of the world. But idk if I like that stand-by/on-call part. :(
i feel like it sounds so amazing. i’m in childcare as an educator and i’m so tired of the constant routine and i’m also studying right now so i need some spontaneous days ahah
i’m 12 and i’ve always been scared of plains. a hour ago i was scared of them but then i was like “ u know what i want to be a flight attendant “ and i’m really excited to be able to be one when i’m older omg
Thank you. This was super helpful. I just did my face to face interview yesterday and I’ve been feeling indifferent because they made us feel so special just to be selected out of thousands. But working other positions in the airline, I’ve only seen at a distance what FA life is like + at the moment i already have flight benefits. So for me it would just be more a career change. Therefore, if they offer it to me, I want to be as fully informed as possible before stepping into that world. So thanks ^_^
what a great insight!! thank you for articulating it so clearly, this was so interesting! just started watching your videos as I travel often too, I always wondered what being a flight attendant is like haha. thanks!!
MonaGamie On one hand I agree but on the other this job is also about being the PR person for the company, you are the representative. So it’s the same as in corporate jobs where you have a dresscode along with the makeup. Men don’t have to do these things because this has never been a part of their professional look. That is to blame the society. Also I am sure you can go along with the rules in a way to make it as much comfortable as it’s possible like wear the smallest heel that you don’t notice while walking ect. So I see both sides I would say.
Thanks for the information! I am interviewing for flight attendant positions and this video made me excited, and made me realize it is ok to expect to only be working there for 2-3 years. I just want to have a great experiece, and then try my hand at other jobs!
i want to thank you for your desire to share your flight attendant experience with others. It deffenetly was fullfilling hearing all you had to say. I had applied for a position to be a flight attendant got a email back for an offer for and invitation to interview, and i think you helped me figure out the life i was going to have. Hearing all you went through sounded like atravasty. im struggling a little right now after walking away from a job my employers were harassing their employees but thinking i wanted to be a flight attentdant i might have had it much worse. You have veered me in a different direction. My previous job was always negativity with so much drama and that's not what i want to be around. As well as never knowing what my schedule would look like and knowing i am facing so much anxiety as it is; i think being a flight attendant would only make it so much worse. Again thank you for your imput and i prov you or prob you... congradulating you on a video job well done. i think your experience is tremendously observed and recognized through your video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! IM SO PROUD YOU GOT OUT OF THAT AND ON TO BETTER THINGS
Wow!!! I’m sooo glad I was able to help you! I honestly am glad that I did it but I wish someone had told me these things before going into it. I think you made a wise choice 😊 Thanks for the encouragement!
Great video again...thank you. I was recently on a flight and 4-5 flight attendants were also 'passengers', not one ate the food on the plane and im fairly sure most brought their own water on board...kinda explains all really. Good luck in your new ventures....
this was a really helpful video. i'm at a weird point in my life where i have few attachments and a lot of questions. i've always loved travel, and i've thought about becoming a fa before, but this was helpful to really breakdown some of the aspects of the career.
damn that is more intense than nursing school! I will never complain about having to get over an 80% to pass an exam ever again. But also, wearing scrubs gives me a sense of pride!
Thanks, actually I´m thinking to be a flight attendant but I was kind of worried about how to do certain things such as make-up or those things but now I can figure out an idea how that job can be.
I'm 15 and have no idea what i want to do for my future bc i want to be successful... And everything sounded nice to me n fun but she stated the cons i was like:0 this scares meee!! But I'ma try my best to study now so when I'm 21 i can do it:) thank you!!
Becca: I really liked the way you described the pros and cons for being a flight attendant! By the way I would like the know what airline gives a 3-4 days in Hawaii for a lay over?? I want to join the airline you worked for!! Most U.S. based airline ( to my knowledge and research give approx. 24 hours off there) Actually that is rapidly becoming a con for being a flight attendant..... you don't get the long lay overs any more!!! You basically get just enough to eat and sleep and not really to gallivant around the town unless you have the strength of Tarzan!! You are tired after a long flight ie Mainland U.S. to Hawaii and so resting and sleep is important too!!
I'm excited to become a flight attendant even despite the cons. I'm a 15 y/o sophomore in high school that's on a varsity swim team and have begun my first year of foreign language and will be taking classes online so I can progress faster and do all four years of it. I've also recently signed up for hospitality and travel-class. I am a little rusty on my infant, child, and adult CPR but have summer classes ready once the school year is out. If anyone else has any recommendations for classes or ways I should prepare please let me know!!
@@ash-gw7es yeah true, but at least in Australia it normally wont go much further than 60k and starts at 40k which just isnt enough to get by in Sydney
Thank you for sharing, I was thinking about becoming a flight attendant and the Internet never told me any of the stuff so I’m really glad that I found your video and I’m starting to rethink being a flight attendant. mostly the only thing that’s really wrong is the money that you’re going to make. I read online that it was $45,000 a year so I was planning on being able to get a nice size apartment for at least $500 a month for rent to $1000 but knowing that it varies then I’m thinking I’m gonna have to re-think my decision I don’t want to struggle
Every airline is different when it comes to compensation. But most of the time you have to work your way UP to 45K a year... but need to start at the bottom like everyone else. With higher seniority comes higher pay ;)
I received an FA offer recently, I actually went interview many times and finally got the job and have been thinking of the pros and cons being or continue to do my job as a Customer Service advisor
The pay can be so bad and everyone is under the impression flight attendants do well financially! Especially when you're at a regional. I had to live with up to 11 other people in a 3 bedroom apartment because I couldn't afford anything else. I eventually quit as well, because for me, the pros didn't outweigh the cons long term. I tried panty hose for about two days (and ruined about 4 pairs). Then discovered compression tights, which last way way longer and at the time, insurance covered! We didn't require makeup in the handbook and I often didn't for 3am shows. They didn't like it, but it wasn't required so they couldn't do anything about it!
What you said about always having to follow rules, once you get to the place you travel to, do you have to adhere to any rules there? As long as I can do what I want on the actual trips, I’m willing to put up with the strict rules of the job.
It's so different than here !!!! In Brazil we have "wallet assigned", that's it basically guarantee you that you HAVE to get paid at least the salary base of your profession AND have to know you day offs at least 15 days before, so those "cons" don't fit here Kkkkansnans BUT the "training" is BUT MORE complicated. To be a Flight Attendant here we need a course, a buch of exams to check if you are able to fly, a test that are gonna to check if you KNOW how a lot of subjects of aviation AND a training of the companie lol. So it's more complicated to be a flight attendant here.
Hi Becca, Lillie and I are watching your video which I thought was very interesting. Don't think I would care for that lifestyle either. Hope to see you soon. Love you, Uncle Mike.
Thank you so much for sharing your Experience, I can’t even lie I’m about that life style, I want to be about that lifestyle, my goal is the literally fly the entire world, party in every city, go to wonderful restaurants, I think that this quarantine has really ignited a burning desire for traveling 😂😂, You don’t mind disclosing which company you worked for??? , I’m hoping to work for Delta
I think these depend of your personal preference and what you can or cannot handle also the airline you work for it also a factor on your experience🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️ but thank you for the insight on your experience tho.
United pays their flight attendants pretty well, about 35 an hour. If you are looking to gain experience, a lower paying position might benefit you, but if you want to continue your career as a flight attendant, set higher standards for yourself. UA flight attendants ranks 4 out of 5 stars on Indeed. You could also sell cruises working from home as a comission based employee and set your own schedule and you could earn bigger earnings and enjoy the benefits of both professions at once, or something similar for extra cash. I worked for an airline and they really need to find a way to pay employees better for the amount of customer service they deal with day to day. A single flight segment really does not make a lot of revenue and the airline has to pay for fuel costs, also. So there is a lot to balance on the budget.
I'm 16 rn doing a levels and I'm thinking of afterwards training to become a flight attendant for a few years and my early 20s, but I'm pretty sure I won't want to do it for the rest of my life just an experience for 5-10 years. is that stupid?
Its so very easy listening to you … so entertaining. Would love to know how to 'layer' with clothing when you are leaving a warm country to go to a cold country. I get this idea of looking like Charlie Brown dressed for the snow, but can't move out the door cos he's whacked with clothing.
😂😂😂 this is sooooo funny. But yet its serious. I am thinking about becoming a flight attendant. 😐but these expense seems as if am going to be spending my salary. This reserve thing ain't going to work to for me though.
Hi Becca what a wonderful video of explaining the FA life . I want to became a FA as it is my dream but now that you said that the training is hard I feel a bit scared but I know I can do it .
So, after watching your video, and also watching the one Delta posted about employment - how, as a good looking 50 year old man, do I enter into this for the training? I've enjoyed serving in restaurants for 11 years. Plus, I've flown A LOT all over Asia, Europe and The United states ever since I was two years old.
Also I plan on spending my time at hotels exercising, running, reading/studying and socializing with others with the same mindset. Partying will not increase the value of ones life and if one has such a great opportunity to experience this life style, I think night clubbing it up would be no better than doing the same back home.

1. low salary + airlines don't pay for trips other than work trips or if you're allocated another base
2. the spontaneous lifestyle (stressful, unpredictable and can be inconvenient. eg. standby duty which makes you unavailable for many events like weddings or meet ups with friends because you don't know your schedule )
3. a month to two months training. strict rules like uniform, makeup, certain high heels or certain length of skirt, many tests and drills. becca's airline did not allow trainees to fail 2 times or more (under 90%). training or dress code is paid by air stewardess.
4. the uniform (expensive, get in trouble for not wearing makeup, skirt length too short, hair is not neat, look professional )
5. being away from family and friends
Thank you ❤❤❤
Those cons are terrible! Sound like a slave with no personal life to me.
All ur cons were actually pros for me
I don’t attach to anybody so i can easily go anywhere cuz nobody needs me to hang out or bdays

So are u a flight attendant now?
Very refreshing to hear a REALISTIC view of what it’s like to be a new-hire FA! It only gets better & better the more seniority you get. Start young & stick with it!
My brother is a pilot. I have so much respect for them and flight attendants. I just don't think I could ever live that lifestyle. I prefer to have a set schedule and to have the ability to take time off when I want etc.
You can’t take time off as a flight attendant? Pretty sure you can.
@@shiromaniw3527 you can but it has to be scheduled and far in advance usually.
ShiroMani Ŵ yes you can. Read my comments above. I’m 20 years as a flight attendant and I pick my own schedule every month

My daughter is an Emirates flight attendant and every single thing you said is so true! She loves the actual job ( maybe not the constant 2am wake up calls) but shes very homesick and misses her family. Shes from Australia so a looong way way away.

Is her head still attached to her body?
I just wanna go through it so I can say I was a flight attendant

That lifestyle would not be for a lot of people, me included.
Natasha vassell hi Natasha, I love traveling but nowadays nurses are obviously needed, I wish you luck in school , stay safe 😷
I quit being a flight attendant years ago and I’m going back to it now. I think being able to be based at home is a real game changer
when you weren't based at home, did you have to commute/fly to the airport you worked at. Or how did that work?
The cons are the perfect example of why being a flight attendant isn’t ideal for me. It also feels like when traveling for fun, it’s more like “been there, done that.”
I'm in medical school and was thinking of changing my career to become a flight attendant, thank you for sharing your experience! I loved the cons, they aren't cons if the job suits you, seems as the job was not for you. Everything you talked about was exciting!

Damn I seriously was thinking about being a flight attendant but now idk man. Sounds terrible now
Operez: It used to be a fantastic job way back in the 60s and 70s .......being a flight attendant back then was some thing special....they hired high quality individuals back then and therefore treated them well as well ie giving them longer lay overs in destinations and also the $$$ was way better too.

I want to be a travel nurse in the future, so I think starting with being a flight attendant is a good segue into that
Ana's Thoughts very very different. I’m a travel nurse and it’s not anything what she described. I guess it’s good for getting used to being away.
Odd comparison
Has nothing to do with being a flight attendant.

The thing with the high heels is downright sexist and stupid. It makes me really angry that Airlines can do that.
agreed!
Yes, along with the makeup/lipstick requirement. Very wrong, especially since it does not apply to the male flight attendants.
Maria Castro exactly like I don’t hate wearing makeup but I love my bare face and lip balm and to be honest I barely know how to apply makeup😂
The truth is, though, that a lot of us don’t even wear high heels. Our heels are so small that you barely even notice you’re wearing them lmao.
MonaGamie
On one hand I agree but on the other this job is also about being the PR person for the company, you are the representative.
Almost everything you said about being flight attendant, reminds me of the military life before

If anyone else has any recommendations for classes or ways I should prepare please let me know!!

I received an FA offer recently, I actually went interview many times and finally got the job and have been thinking of the pros and cons being or continue to do my job as a Customer Service advisor
great to hear. Awesome experience
this is just what i needed to see. thank you for this ♥️ also i love how you talk. keep up the good content babe
Studying next year for being a flight attended and I'm so excited i really don't care about the cons i just want to see the world
I'm from South Africa so anywhere out of here is fine for me
What you said about always having to follow rules, once you get to the place you travel to, do you have to adhere to any rules there? As long as I can do what I want on the actual trips, I’m willing to put up with the strict rules of the job.

Thanks for elaborating this so well from your perspective! And for being honest from your perspective.
When you were a flight attendant when did you get paid biweekly or.....

I love your energy!
This video was absolutely great and very informative- Thank You !!
I'm 16 rn doing a levels and I'm thinking of afterwards training to become a flight attendant for a few years and my early 20s, but I'm pretty sure I won't want to do it for the rest of my life just an experience for 5-10 years. is that stupid?
