Definitely a WAY underrated car. Toyota's flagship. While, like Mrs Wizard said, it's not a corner carver, but it is way quicker then most would ever think. That 3.5 v6 is one of the best engines ever made, close to 280hp, this thing is a sleeper at stoplights. It would have been beneficial to show someone sitting in the back seat as it really has limo like rear leg room. Another back seat detail is the seats recline. I bought a '06 to flip - 3 years later we still have it because my wife likes it over her RDX for road trips. Great car, with a fantastic motor... get one while you can, I see good examples like this getting more valuable as the EVs are pushed on us and their real costs and inconvenience become more realized. The % of people trading back their EV for gas speaks volumes.

My 1999 Buick has a lockable pass-through as well. It was always annoying on road trips when I was a kid, because we would usually put the drink cooler in the trunk just on the other side of it and then remember that it needed to be unlocked with the trunk key that was on the keychain in the ignition. The other thing with the charcoal canister is people over filling their fuel tank. You should fill your fuel tank until the filler clicks off and then hang it up on the pump. I just saw a person the other day there’s clicked off and they just kept clicking and clicking and clicking over filling their tank which dumps raw fuel into the charcoal canister, and will eventually ruin it, so don’t try to overfill your gas tank. When the handle clicks off, hang it up and you’re done.

The TCC light goes on because, on toyotas of this era, a misfire can throw both an emissions code, and cause the TCC module to apply brakes suddenly as a result of the misfire (axles jerk, making the wheel speed sensor freak out). Toyota opted to have the TCC light respond to any check engine light, rather than sort out some codes, but not others.

I replaced the alternator and that was challenging. But that engine is so good. On the canister subject, overfilling the gas tank overtime causes the charcoal canister to fail. So, with any car even new cars, don't keep topping off the fuel tank after the first click. Good video!

The difference is about 40-50% of the old fluid being replaced or 90-95%, respectively. I will only exchange my fluid from now on after seeing the difference it makes. Toyota transmissions can go an extremely long time if they are maintained properly. Even a lot of unreliable transmissions will go quite a bit farther if the fluid is exchanged every 30k or sooner.

Some Toyotas really have some strange placements of parts. The 1996-2000 rav4’s (4wd version) - there’s a vsv that fails almost always and is nearly an engine out job. Motor mount has to be removed to do driver side control arm as the trans pan won’t clear it. 2wd you can reach it from underneath the car and control arms are standard procedure.

Honda Accords and some Acuras used to have them on the pass-through. It also had a lock on the fuel door release. The idea was you got a valet key and a regular key so that way if you took it somewhere and valet parked it, you'd hand the valet the special key and all it did was unlock the car and start the engine but would not allow them into the trunk (to your valuables) or to the gas tank.

My car has the 4 cylinder, 4 speed automatic, I am totally pleased with this car. I was looking at Avalon's, but everyone I looked at had over 100,000 miles with asking prices between $17,000 to $21,000, which you think wouldn't be bad, but the Avalon's I was looking at were between 2008-2013.

Change the oil every 5,000 miles with full synthetic. The 4-cylinder is easier to maintain compared to the V6, so you should be very happy. Watch out for oil burning, some of the 2007-2009 4-cylinder models had bad piston rings from the factory, and will burn oil. Even if it burns oil, just make sure it never goes low and keep changing it every 5,000 miles or less, don't get rid of it, it's still better than A LOT of other cars on the road. These 4-cylinder Toyotas can go over 300,000 miles if you do basic maintenance! I bet there are some with half a million miles on them.

    Great video! Two points.
    1. My 08 Corolla Toyota saw fit to change from metal fuel tank to plastic. The line to the charcoal canister is molded ONTO the gas tank. (Must have been the same engineer!) when that tube broke on mine they wanted to put in a whole new gas tank. Nope. Used another larger tube as a sleeve and some JB Weld to fix.
    2. Im told that a big cause of charcoal canisters going bad is people topping off their tank (I like even dollar amount🤣!) gas gets sucked in and spoils canister. I’m now satisfied with odd dollar amounts!
