Songs like Security with the really futuristic and dark sounds paired with bright keys really set the album tone for me - literally sounds completely different from every album he’s done, even Donda. The first half was actually really fucking good, but shit went downhill from there LOOL

I honestly just want to hear him talk more about good values, what he’s gained from Donda, paying homage to Donda West, family, religion (I’m not even religious), I just liked how the last album stayed more towards the name and purpose of the album whereas this one just seems superficial and has a negative perspective towards his own personal situation when he could definitely make it positive (to which would help people/listeners that are in situations of depression, divorce, etc)

There has been something about the showcases of these - “unfinished” projects that has been so great to me. Since forever, artist have just dropped their work on us after being a hermit for X amount of time, and we ponder it, criticize it, etc in it’s calcified form. The only time it MAY change is on their tours. That will obviously stay the norm, but Kanye brings freshness to this before it’s calcified by, in my opinion, humanizing the process by somewhat building it in our face and showing he *is* the art and in full control of how he presents it. Watching him fill in the blanks is the most exciting part, imho. As an artist, sometimes you do want to just showcase what you’re building because it looks or sounds so good in that current state. When your imagination is larger and quicker than what your mind can output physically, it gets tricky. It’s almost a sense of urgency behind it too while you’re still “spiritually” connected to that artwork (yeah, ok I’m just projecting, lol.) These colossal sets and imagery captured while his music orchestrates it, timeless stuff. Either way, I’m glad he’s in ways redefining what artistry is. The sour tastes in peoples mouths seem to be mostly be because it goes against what we’ve always known artist to do. I feel as though we’re seeing his mind projected in real-time, and it ain’t supposed to be immaculate like we’ve constantly been conditioned to think artists are. I don’t know how much more artistic it can get. Literally no one is doing this, lol. We’ll read about it in books when he’s gone, and artists by the hundreds will try to duplicate it in their “polished” and politically sound manner.
Exactly. You put it perfectly. I try to ignore the personal drama involving Kanye because the way the media and social platforms are, well, drama sells. People who are not artists and performers don’t understand that what is presented to the public is often an amplified version of your personality. It is not the whole story. My takeaway from the performance was that either Kanye is really taking the Andy Kauffman performance artist thing to new heights (the optimistic view) or I am astounded by his ability to pull off something like this with an attention to a variety of details while his personal and public life simultaneously disintegrates into a form of madness and abuse. I suppose it’s somewhere in between. Lots of bands used to play unreleased songs while they were working on them. Most just stopped because every performance is recorded with an iPhone and judged as if it is the finished product. This is like watching a painter paint in real time. People can’t fathom it because most are not artists, and even if you are an artist, most are too afraid to present a work in progress lest it be judged against prior finished work. Ye doesn’t care. And he’s right to not care, because mistakes in art are quickly forgotten.

I had just came off of the first run of Donda, and I got to experience the shows in person. I definitely agree withe andy kauffman approach and the watching of a painting in real time analogy is spot on, like, what I'd imagine old painters in the middle ages or something do if they were in the city square and having people pass by an observe, sorta. None of these things are particularly realized by the audience when you're in the writing phase of your history. Its realized when they're forced to reminisce on what was lost. Either way, I've been loving it! Lol

I was there live and the speakers were NOT concert grade, esp for hip hop. It’s the florida marlins baseball stadium so it makes sense but my ears hurt from all the unnecessary buzzing and just overall feedback issues. also they just played praise God intro and Ye didn’t even do his verse.

Idk why people cut him so much slack for making these messy albums that are never really finished. His bizarre process has turned me off since TLOP.
I have a feeling it's a result of his mental health tbh. I noticed ever since it got worse around 2015 all his albums have been messy and chaotic
Yeah only album he never changed since TLOP and actually finished… was kids see ghost. Even Ye had some mixing fixes and shit they changed “I thought about killing you” I prefer the first one over the new one now.

@@MaxPower-cm6ie yeah I tend to agree. It’s sad tbh. People get so mad if you question his methods but it’s kind of a cheap move to never give your fans a clean and finished product. He convinced everyone he’s a genius but idk if it’s really genius to create messy music and be wildly inconsistent. No doubt that he’s talented, but he really needs therapy and meds right now. He’s not well and it shows.

I was there live and the speakers were NOT concert grade, esp for hip hop. It’s the florida marlins baseball stadium so it makes sense but my ears hurt from all the unnecessary buzzing and just overall feedback issues. also they just played praise God intro and Ye didn’t even do his verse.
That was definitely one of the performances of all time

I liked the first half. I hope he adds more to the tracks. The 4 songs that dropped for the stem player I wasn't really impressed. I was disappointed with playboi Carti's appearance. I hope there's a lot more work to be done here.
