I'm from Liverpool but I lived in Devon for 20 odd years and drove milk tankers down there for a long time so I know what those roads are like Kev. I also did a lot of Class 1 multidrop in Devon n Cornwall and I have no fear now of taking a wagon anywhere. Whats the worst that can happen? You've gotta reverse a while. Pain in the arse but no biggie. Thanks for taking me back sir. Its a beautiful county I'm really fond of.
Don't moan about our lovely Devon roads. Just think of the wonderful views as you come in, although views in Dorset are great also. Glad to see Pug is still safe. Drive safe
@Wayne Ashton...yeah Cornwall for sure dude!!..I've lived there all my life and used to regularly go out with the old man back in the day and then an ex mate of mine got his hgv license and the pl12 postcode was his delivery slots!!😁👍
Cornwall is very bad in places too. Devon is up there for sure too. But the thing is with Devon is, often roads look wide upon entry & then quickly turn very, very narrow. Where as Cornwalls roads often have the same consistency all the way through, Devon is much more hilly & that’s why the roads are worse. Cornwalls Roads are a lot better than Devon for wider longer vehicles, with the exception of Some coastal spots, but then signs warn drivers about those places. Devons roads for this reason are the worst....Roads that look OK at the start, but then get very, very bad.
Kev. I was born about 2 miles from Chulmleigh and went to school there. That’s proper Devon roads you were travelling on, they frighten the grockles to death especially when they see a tractor coming at them. Haha
When I was on for Evans we had to come through Chagford when bringing timber out from Fernworthy. Fun and games in an artic as you can imagine! The relief when you finally got to the A30 or A38!!
Another cracking vlog Kev, don’t know how I missed this one, a touch tight in places, so as always good skills, been up some tight places with Coaches no fun, especially if they are fitted with P45 mirrors!! Bye bye Driver, nice knowing you!!😂😂 keep up the good work, keep safe!
It used be even more fun when the artics bringing timber out met on that road, got stuck there for more than an hour on more than one occasion. Great video, keep up the good work. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrsssssss
Kev, Truth is that there's not a single main road for which Devon County Council has responsibility which is fit for purpose. The only roads which come close are the A30 and the A38, which belong to Highways England. It's a disgrace, and it has been the case for the entire 52 years since I passed my test. At least it makes our Cornish roads look good! Keep up the good work!
Dude I know exactly what you mean about people being a bit funny in small towns and villages. I drive buses and one of our routes has a timing point in such a village, if you’re waiting there any longer than about 2 minutes the lovely old dear across the road comes out into her garden, takes pictures and starts ranting at you that you shouldn’t be waiting that long, she’s going to report you to head office etc etc..... she especially loves it when you’re there early enough to switch your engine off and have a cig break 🤣. All good fun ain’t it, keep up the good work pal 👍
watching this and thinking "Kev waves at more people than postman Pat..." and then started trying to com up with a postman Pat style ditty... sadly (or perhaps just as well) I'm too tired to get far with it! Those little towns look like the sort of place where everyone lives a short walk from the shops but as they have a car they drive to the bigger shops somewhere else as it's easier than trying to park at the shops a short walk from the house and moan about the traffic that is everyone else driving to the shops...
Proper Devon that is, Its lorries and buses getting stuck central, always fun and games, You should try the Hemyock-Culmstock-Uffculme road, always lorries-lorries, buses-lorries, buses-buses getting stuck, had a Landrover with Live stock trailer wedged between a wall and an Arctic, both were touching,, lost 30 mins on school run, the other week. Keep doing the good videos,
Been there done that in a Coach Kev, I get you've got a few thousand judging your driving skills on video but getting through those villages with 50 odd passengers sitting behind you watching your every move is serious pressure. I know what you mean about the panic attacks. You bossed them towns mate 👍👍
I was there in Chagford a couple of months ago (holiday from HGV driving) and unbelievably I saw a Jenkinson wood products artic go up to the top of the road and turn right to do a collection at Fernworthy Reservoir. And I was wary about piloting my Yeti!!!
Another great vlog mate, but I would hate to have been in your shoes!! Driving a 3.5T Van around Devon & Dorset is enough for me ;-) Well done and hats off too you though, you turned up, got the car and got back out again whilst biting your tongue in the process ;-) Surely for the second collection Trents would have thought to send the van though!! Hedges are not cut back & other drivers MUST take caution even if there side is trimmed on bends. The land owners just don’t take hedges back & ive often thought I should put signs up in villages explaining their responsibilities of that & basically saying farmers are & locals are THICK & wreckless for not maintaining there land next to the roads

That's nothing, what you on about lol. I live in the Cotswolds, we have roads even the dustman doesn't go down, residents have to bring their bins up to the top of the lanes and then the council only send a 1 ton flatbed to collect the rubbish! A while ago we had an Eastern European artic come through the village obviously following a satnav and got wedged between two buildings on the steepest hill up here, not helped he had about a 44ton lorry fully loaded, it took about two days to get him out as even heavy recovery trucks couldn't get to him. Then an Eddie Stobart lorry came through and took everybody's gutters with him, along with a load of road signs! If you ever have any collections from GL6 I'd take the day off Kev !!
Contrary to popular belief the 'A' classification of road doesn't give any indication of the width or quality of a road. Being an 'A' road just means it's a strategically important route, and the fact that Kev is using it here is likely evidence of that - if there was a better route he would probably be using it! Now of course more often than not important routes get a lot of traffic, so tend to be higher up the priority list for being improved and upgraded so are probably better quality on average but obviously that's not always possible. Equally, in theory, you could have a nice wide dual carriageway that's classified as 'B' road if it's not an important route - although of course not likely because there is little reason for a road like that to be upgraded that way. So if the road between two places is an 'A' road but is narrow and twisty, it's probably because there isn't a better route between those places. That sat navs colour roads based purely on classification is probably not helpful.

Didnt advise me. Didnt correct me or advise me. Just watched me make the same mess of reversing on a bay over and over and not a word. Thanks Kev for reminding me why I do not want to venture out of Scotland and drive all the way to Devon, as them roads are not even B roads as far as I am concerned and our B roads are wider and easier to negotiate - ask any delivery trucker North of the Border !!
That's why I try to get to Scotland most years in early October if I can as the roads are a joy to drive. I've lived in Devon all my life and you get used to driving the lanes. You just have to be patient, prepared to reverse, not in a truck obviously, and stay calm. Most of the issues I have found are from people who have moved to the area and can't accept that it is what it is.
In all fairness Kev, them roads in devon i would of dumped truck and walked back to Liverpool! i get so stressed with stuff like that so well done lad.

When I watch your driving about I see how bad it is when people park. Madness
Passed my class 1 four years ago and never had chance to use it. Is there anybody out ther can teach me to reverse. Just left stobarts aftw 5 hours cos they gave me a mentor who didnt speak. Didnt advise me. Didnt correct me or advise me. Just watched me make the same mess of reversing on a bay over and over and not a word. Then expect me to do a night shift tomorrow alone someone please help!!!!!
hi kev greetings from norfolk cheeeeeeeerrs and well done
Thanks Kev for reminding me why I do not want to venture out of Scotland and drive all the way to Devon, as them roads are not even B roads as far as I am concerned and our B roads are wider and easier to negotiate - ask any delivery trucker North of the Border !!
That's why I try to get to Scotland most years in early October if I can as the roads are a joy to drive. I've lived in Devon all my life and you get used to driving the lanes. You just have to be patient, prepared to reverse, not in a truck obviously, and stay calm. Most of the issues I have found are from people who have moved to the area and can't accept that it is what it is.
i would class them roads as CYCLE LANES !!!
In all fairness Kev, them roads in devon i would of dumped truck and walked back to Liverpool! i get so stressed with stuff like that so well done lad.
Cheers mate, I guess you get use to it living in farmer country, I've learned not to get stressed as that's when I break things 😂😂
