  • In Houdini 20 Karma has become a lot more useable. This video we look at getting started with Solaris and how to use groups inside of Karma to help shade your models.

    Thanks so much!
    Exactly what I needed.

    Great tutorial! You cleared up things for me. Both the SOPcreate and the Attributecreate in this context are very useful. Cheers!

    Really handy video, people seem to be skipping the power of groups in Karma on a lot of vids!

      I used them all the time working in the OBJ context so it was one of the important things I wanted to figure out with Solaris

      Hmmm. Even though the group is now showing in geo speadsheet... I can't get a transform to work with it. @@InsideTheMindSpace

    Could you discuss how to handle and modify with the best possible performance external USDs in SOPS and LOPs can’t seem to find any good information about that particular workflow

    What's the difference between the assignmaterial node and the MaterialLinker node? Which do you recommend? Looks like MaterialLinker has a better interface?

      Use the material linker. You can assign your entire scene easily that way

    I started modeling in the Sop Create, but immediately I realized that I cant look through the (any) camera... Its something that is missing in Solaris? Thanks!

      You will need to jump up and down in the network. That is a downside yes.

      You should stay on the OBJ context and create your geo nodes inside the OBJ context. You can link your camera either with the LOP Import Camera in OBJ (to import the camera from Solaris) or the SceneImportCamera node in LOP (to import the camera from the OBJ context). And finally import your objects/geometries with a SOP Import node. It's way easier and you still have access to your camera without losing the procedural stuff from Houdini. Cheers!

      That is extra steps that aren't necessary and remove some of the flexibility of LOPs. If you really need a camera view I would recommend splitting a viewport keeping one locked to the stage context set to your camera view and then use the second viewport to model inside the sop create. There are a lot of advantages to not working in the obj context at all.

      a work around is to import your lops camera back into obj context then you will see it in your sop create nodes in sop context. the node in obj context is called lops import camera I believe

    can you please also llook into the new auto assign material feature because i feel like it still buggy it creates multiple assigners at the last node!

    • @InsideTheMindSpace
      @InsideTheMindSpace  ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont recommend using the auto assignments. Just more likely to cause errors that you need to fix. Theres a better way through the material linker and wild cards
