It’s completely fantastic news, full of many excellent things. I think this new version will be very pleasant; will go need to study it thoroughly if possible.
Did they say what was new with APEX Rigging & Skinning? Or if APEX would be integrated with KineFX more to make things easier? I watched that part in the Keynote but it is confusing what is new? 🤔
All versions of Houdini are available as apprentice. There are some restrictions on apprentice though and you likely won't be able to export textures with the release of Copernicus but that's just my guess
Gotcha. I couldn't remember if it was in 20 or not. Odd that they mentioned it but maybe it's a node they added in an incremental update as they do that sometimes.
Already done for me. I use Resolve for compositing and camera tracking, and you know what’s the cool part? It has a lot more options than AE. Just the learning curve is a little bit steeper, that’s what turned me off at the beginning btw.
I dont like them spreading out like that, a Designer tool, a comp application, it usually becomes a weak tools that will get abended years to come. Even Solaris is a few years old and is still a work in progress.
Normally I would agree with you. However Sidefx is a very different company to most. And while Solaris is a work in progress it's not like it's a rough work in progress. It's extremely usable. It makes a lot of sense to be able to stay in one application for everything needed for 3D. Especially with the nature of how Houdini is built, it has a perfect base for almost all aspects. Designer was a logical step with the way Houdini works already. They complement each other very well in workflow in my opinion
They can do what's possible in designer, nothing to do with painter yet. But the way they approached making this new cops means it will definitely be possible, it's just a matter of time. So yeah, for now I guess they aren't replaceable yet, *unless* you want procedural textures only without much painting, in that case yeah ditch substance

Awesome update, can’t wait July when it will be released 🎉
Right there with you.
Is 20.5 going to be available for apprentice version or just paid version.

i am currently working on a project in 20 and can confirm, that sop modify is not new. i use it all the time in production.

@@InsideTheMindSpace thats possible. we are on some later production build
God thanks I can uninstall After Effects
Maybe not fully yet but in the future you should be able to although it looks pretty capable for basic compositing
Houdini should do partnership with Blender
@@Mati_Motion Yeah, good luck with that
same here with fusion :)

is Solaris a renderer?
Solaris is a lookdev and layout part of Houdini. Karma is the renderer associated with Solaris

@@InsideTheMindSpace 👏👏
So.. no more substance designer? If they have the capability of what you can do with painter and designer together, I am jumping boats
I think you will be able to replace designer maybe but painter won't be replaced yet from what I am seeing
@@InsideTheMindSpace but the great thing about designer is also the ability to make generators and materials for painter
