  • Hey all, Rob Martinez here. On today's program, I try most of the typical dishes of Ecuador on one corner in Ridgewood, Queens. Encebollado, morocho, pan con nata, ceviche, seco de chivo! Lots of amazing dishes. I hope y'all find this useful as a guide to the cuisine.

I am really glad you enjoyed eating Ecuadorian food. Our gastronomy is so vast and rich and I get excited when people discover the flavors of Ecuadorian food. Only one thing I can add is that the encebollado, in the coast, is always eaten with chifles(fried plantain chips) or bread; whereas in the mountains, people typically eat it with popcorn. Personally, I love encebollado with chifles. You grab them with your hands, crush them and then put them on the plate. Nice video 😊

There is a funny anecdote that happened in Ecuador decades ago when foreign workers who spoke English arrived at the oil companies, who when they went to eat at the Ecuadorian restaurants asked for the rice after the soup, which is how it is habit to eat in Ecuador, but they said SECOND so from there in Ecuador the rice that is served after the soup is called second 😄
Thank you for your video 😊 I loved it and I’m provoked to eat that delicious food from my country ECUADOR 🇪🇨 definitely delicious 🤤😋😊

I appreciate this video so much
I’ve been in bushwick all my life. I grew up with Ecuadorian neighbors and fell in love with their dishes as a child but never was able to find those same flavors as an adult. Many of the restaurants I’ve tried weren’t as good or only stood around a short time.
I’m so grateful for this video. I’m going to stop at the truck right now for that ceviche and that encebollado
    Thanks Rob
If you need a video idea, Bushwicks best spots to eat would be great.
    Thanks

The word "seco" really comes from a confusion/mistranslation of the word "second". Once in Ecuador an american worker was having lunch, first the soup, then he wanted to have the chicken stew but he couldn't remember how to say it, so he just asked for the "second de pollo". That was it, the name stuck, no we got seco de pollo, seco de carne and sexo de chivo. Love your videos man, i always share them to family up there in the states so they can go try them.

Ecuador is the American country of soups with more than 4,700 soups, some among the first in the world along with other dishes in Taste Atlas, our sea produces many seafood that is transformed into encebollados, cevICHEs, soups. rice, empanadas, casseroles, buns, corviches, etc. with products among the first in the world: shrimp, banana, cocoa, coffee and from which exotic dishes are made with the precise combination of sea and land ending in an exuberant and fresh syncretism to the palate

"Seco" It comes from the word "second", because the locals couldn't pronounce the whole word.

@@EatingWithRobertis an urban history, idk if it is real but in Guayaquil, bc it is a coast city and the principal harbor of the country many foreigns came, specially americans, so as someone said before, they ask for the second dish, (here the first dish is always a soup), so the locals instead of saying second they said seco, a similar pronuntiation word in spanish
