Yes the 30meters is a “go anywhere” 30 meters. Even the Aquanaut Models that were listed as 120meters over night changed to 30meters - effectively Patek are saying you can do anything in them including diving to 30 meters. Had quite a conversation about this with a AD and Patek rep recently. @@Goldfish120X11 how ironic when what Patek does the right thing, people still criticize them. The whole aspect of 10m water resistance = basically for hand washing is just baffling. How did the watch community be ok with that kind of language
I don't know if you noticed this detail, but I am surprised by the appearance of the timer studs on this Cubitus model "what a name!" Their slobbery appearance, which seems to overflow onto the horizontal relief of the dial, attracts the eye in an unflattering way for this timepiece at more than 40,000 euros, especially when compared with the Nautilus, where this detail is much better integrated. Anyway, i'm not a Patek owner and never will be, maybe that's why it bothers me.
Hideous and big to you, but with my wrist size trying the Cubitus on recently, it fits perfectly, whereas the Nautilus is smallish. And it looked GREAT on the wrist. So not for everyone, but amazing for some. In context of history this watch will looked back on as a simple and classy extension of the Nautilus Line and hopefully we can expect some more really fun and experimental new complications and variations such as the complicated strap version.
I'm impressed to that brands like Patek & Breitling are continuing a commitment to offering large watch designs. Looking forward to visiting a Breitling boutique to see the 46mm Avenger Night Mission model.
46mm - you have the american footballers, the basketball players, the fighters, ... all these guys with cash and large frames need watches the size of a Smart car, so it's a market.
Using the Nautilus bracelet for a square shaped case is the main problem of the Cubitus' design. The one with the complication and blue strap doesn't have that problem. It actually looks good I think.
Cubitus looks comically large on all those wrist shots...error by PP on the scale of the square-ish case. Round movement in square cases always feels like a corner cut when viewing through the display caseback...better just to keep it closed imho. And why call this line a "sports" model when the WR is the same as their Calatrava...a dress watch? What sport do they intend this to work for: hot air balloon racing, bocce, darts, billiards....
Long time viewer ,love your work.Patak has lost the plot and will pay for their arrogance .They need buyers for this crap we don't need their snobbery.
You are on right on with the arrogance and snobbery of Patek's CEO. You didn't even get into the overpriced cost for an "entry level, young person's sport watch."
The Cubitus is sold out already. I went to go see at my local dealer and they had one in stock but told me it was already allocated. That’s fine. I think it’s a cool watch but I am not going to blow my dealer for a watch.
As a Swiss and therefore fluent in German, I can confirm that Mr. Stern’s comments in the Bilanz interview are completely out of touch. Hence, there are no translations mishaps. Maybe, and just maybe, the original discussion was held in French language. Geneva is part of the French speaking area of Switzerland, and someone made some mistakes in the French to German translation. What irritated me most about Mr. Stern’s comments was the fact that he said that AP doesn’t work with outsiders, even though their most important watch was, the Nautilus was designed by Gerald Genta. And secondly, he mentioned multiple times his father. Looks like that Mr. Stern has some daddy issues.
Adrian,IMO this is the best and funniest vid you’ve done this year. A great watch (no pun intended). Honest without resorting to hate or malice. The Breitling size comment was spot on 46mm-44mm-42mm?? Those adventurers are getting very picky aren’t they??
Patek - If you remove the hype no one wants this watch - and they (Patek) were so nervous they even launched it with their precious Green Dial ! Buy a Cartier if you want this look. ❤ (and I do own a couple of Pateks !)
I get the impression something was changed at the last minute, perhaps the pricing. Like, maybe they made it intentionally a little undesirable to get people into the brand, positioned at the bottom of the PP ladder under Nautilus and so forth, and were going to price it much cheaper (15-20k CHF?), but then panicked and chickened out at the last minute.
All that needs to be said has been said about the PP watches. Regardless of opinions they will sell it to their special people and mere mortals will never want one.
I used to aspire to a patek and now patek should aspire to have me as a customer in any capacity. They just alienated all of their potential customers. I will take my money to any other brand that deserves my money.
I have several Pateks,, Thanks Thiery. I tried the Cubitus in Steel. You can feel the quality of course but the design looks like a Casio crossed with an Aqua Terra green dial. It just doesn't have the same feel as a Nautilus or Aquanaut - I buy into the theory that it's been launched as a consolation prize for someone who doesn't want to wait for a Nautilus/Aquanaut and is also focussed at a younger demographic ... maybe. There seem to be quite a lot around.
Nothing against the Cubitis but it immediately brings to mind a G-Shock. Nothing wrong with G-Shocks but not something I'd expect from PP. It's probably a great watch....the movement certainly looks fantastic. But just doesn't do anything for me.
5:30 I disagree that Patek would be dead without the Nautilus. It didn't start to become popular until about 10 years ago. I remember in 2009 no one wanted the Nautilus, but Patek's other watches were still sought after. Remember, people are not only relationship building at Patek for the Nautilus, but for the Grand Complications.
@ Exactly! For the first 175 years of Patek Philippe, they were renowned for complications not entry level “sport” watches. I honestly think Rolex makes the best sport watches and Patek makes the finest complicated timepieces on the planet
the way Stern says about AP that they only have Royal Oak is ridiculous! Because 100% if not Gerald Genta designed nautilus back then, maybe Patek wont be on his legs till this days….
Patek, as a brand, has always presented as one in the highest echelons of luxury and exclusivity. Existing only in the rarest of rarified air. Their marketing has exemplified this. They have over the decades crafted this place in the cultural fabric with deft and class almost without peer. Herr Stern's comments however, have, in one fell swoop completely destroyed absolutely all of that. If it wasn't so tragic, it'd almost be hilarious. Oh...and the watch is hideous.
Fantastic watch - makes more sense on a strap I’d say, perhaps leather. As for Stern’s comments, whatever; let them do their thing + kudos for not trying to be popular. Probably 50 years from now pundits will call him a daring genius
He never really worked his way up but rather inherited from his family. Good for nothing except destroying the image and reputation his father and grandfather tirelessly built. Time is seriously up for this goon.
German here: Yes, the English translation of the German language magazine is accurate. BUT: Stern lives in the French speaking part of Switzerland. I couldn't find any video with him speaking German. He might speak some German but it is not his mother tongue. So either the interview was in German - a foreign language to Mr. Stern where he might miss some of the nuances. Or the interview was in French and all we have is a translation from French to German (and then to English).
I don't really have an opinion on the cubitus one way or another. But if it's for attracting younger patek buyers, I hope they sought input from someone younger when designing it and that it would actually be available for them to buy. I doubt either.
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the MAMACOO's watches are the most intriguing.
The Monaco is a sports watch and is also just 30m WR. Also you should consider selling the 3 straps online alps well. Why limit them to a shop in London that most people will not get to 🤔
I have been thinking and wondering during recent weeks if we learn to like certain designs over the time. I hated nautilus the first I saw it. Now I kind of desire it.
Saying that your very disappointed in the fact that is has 30metres water resistance and should not be claimed as a sport watch is absolutely RIDICULOUS clearly it's not sold as a divers watch and for regular swimming and snorkeling and tankless diving 30metres is beyond sufficient thats literally over 300 feet depth!; this is a beautiful well rounded formal/sports watch fit for any occasion 👍my only complaint is that it looks to similar to a nautilus 😕.
I think ull be surprised!!! , Patek Philippe already positioned them selves among the elleite market segment . The same people who will buy it just because it's different, new and limited . It happens all the time many ugly things are sold just because its expensive, especially among the Nouveau-riche. Also I'm sure the next variation will be smaller and sportier . It's neither my cup of tee, nor i can afford it 😅
There's a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to watch desirability and Stern's comments will definitely do some damage to PP's - which will inevitably affect their used prices. Ironically, he might be making them affordable to just the kind of people he seems to think won't own one :p
For me, the Cubitus design deserves to be in an Invicta watch showcase. I don’t have a Patek, but frankly, their CEO,s expressions killed on me any desire to get one. I’m so disgusted…
Breitling must have listened to the youtube commenters. Any size of any watch brought forward is always too small. I will not be surprised to see comments proclaiming "if they would make this in 48mm, I would be all over this".
I had just the opposite experience , great moment, with my son, amazing welcome and support. Not snob at all, magnificent atmosphere. But it was always with the same sales manager
The Cubitus is a decent desingn, but everything with the execution is just weird. The choice of size, the water resistance while trying to call it sporty, saying it's for a younger audience, topped off with his comments? Nah. Why did he say that
The WR30 has been debated and it has been clear for a while now that Patek has changed how the rating is to be interpreted. Normally WR30 means that you can't even shower with it, but with Patek, 30 meters ís 30 meters. So it's at least comparable with 100m that other brands maintain.
I don't see how Cubitius is any more or less pretty than Aquanaut (ripped car tire dial). Both are not my cup of tea but I'd not call them badly designed. I guess the snobby ceo comments resonate with a "snobby" youth who will be buying these watches.
Imagine the nightmare of working for Patek: this guy probably needs 3 or 4 people around him at alla times saying "yes" to everything - then having to patch up his messes every day behind his back.
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. MAMACOO watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
I won’t argue on the Cubitus design as it’s something very subjective (I don’t hate it, it’s just a non event) but Thierry Stern… my god ! He ticks all the boxes to « how to be a perfect a…hole ! » I like very much this video format. Well done !
I think the Cubitus is brilliant. It makes the Nautilus look old fashioned. I don't buy into the FOMO Nautilus is amazing hype personally. The Cubitus looks clean , modern and fresh. I'm fully onboard with the look. The only downsides are the case back is round which goes against the look and too small and they could have done something more special with the movement. The base model in blue would be killer. The platinum is superb . my pick of the bunch. It will come into it's own in a year or two. I can't get overly excited by what he said about those who beat up on them either. Whilst it may seem harsh it's totally spot on. Why should he care about those who say "It's horrible I'd never buy one BUT haven't a pot to piss in?
Yeah but his honest opinion and the way he glorifies himself being better than any extern Designer has no place when he represents the Brand Patek Philippe (or should not). Especially not when you talk down on other Brands while having somewhat of the same issue as AP, let's be real. And to add insult to injury: the watches that people truly want are enabling his designs.
Great content pal. (Aswell)😂 Totally agree with your patek review. The CM sounds like a plank! Will enjoy watching the fall out. I see Wahlberg is already rocking one. 😂 That guy. Tell me which strap from your store would look nice on the tudor chrono blue.?
If the Cubitus looked even remotely decent, then I could "understand" him acting in the way that he is, though still inappropriate. But it is horrifyingly ugly, and him acting this way is telling of his character. It's a shame to see Patek take massive PR a hit because of this, but they will recover in time.
Any microbrand or affordable news? I did hear Studio Underdog get a mention but is that as low as you go? Is anyone really interested in what Patek is doing? If you can afford one of those I'm sure matey pants have you on speed dial..
Mr Stern knows his market and as PP are still desirable, largely, I think he has a right to express his views, without worrying what the watch journalists think. I like the Cubitus. If I had the money, I would want to buy it and not give a damn what others think!
I don’t mind the Cubitus, there are lots of watches that aren’t for me but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad watch. Thierry’s attitude however completely turns me off from supporting him in any way which unfortunately means my plans to buy my first Patek are cancelled as long as he has an ownership interest in Patek. Not that my minuscule business moves a needle but I feel I have to do my part.

Great video, like the monthly round up concept! 2 questions, where’s the jumper from and tell us more about that watch box! Cheers ☕️
The part about the haters is actually true though.
Lovely jumper
Lovely round up
Great job calling them out
Cubitus looks comically large on all those wrist shots...error by PP on the scale of the square-ish case.
Hey Adrian CONGRATS on getting your straps in a brick & mortar location. Great first step for you. 🤙👊
Agree, but quick correction, you said AP when you meant Patek
Adrian,IMO this is the best and funniest vid you’ve done this year. A great watch (no pun intended). Honest without resorting to hate or malice. The Breitling size comment was spot on 46mm-44mm-42mm?? Those adventurers are getting very picky aren’t they??
Love the new Tudor.
You’ve got fantastic colours for those limited straps. Just wonderful
Do more of weekly/monthly watch news with your comments on the released novelties! I love that, hope others do too
Patek - If you remove the hype no one wants this watch - and they (Patek) were so nervous they even launched it with their precious Green Dial !
That’s some sweet strap packaging!
I like your style, your honesty, your voice and ”tone”…
I was just able to try on all 3 Cubitus models earlier this week. They grew on me quickly with my favorite being the Platinum.
Not the words or vibe a CEO should have. My desire to buy Patek just went way down.
I’d almost argue that a Square watch looks older/not mature than, say, one that looks like the Nautilus. But that’s me.
Agree with you 100%
Agreed. People used to covert the higher up models you couldn’t get. Not the sports hype models.
Love MAMACOO watch,Such a great looking watch to match with the precisionist movement.
German here:
Yes, the English translation of the German language magazine is accurate.
These watch news catch-up style videos are great! Really loving the content recently :)
This is the format of success. You give us your take and we just love the honesty 🏆 Naughtiness just went up in value 😁
Love the new format, Adrian. Brilliant.
Very brave of you on the Cubitus. Fully concur.
Why is it brave? Stern doesn’t care about him either.
The green stainless Cubitus looks okay only because it looks little bit like Santos de Cartier. Only slightly uglier.
It's neither my cup of tee, nor i can afford it 😅
those Bark and Jack straps are really rather nice!
Why Patek changed there sport watch water resistance is beyond me. I have a 10 year old aquanaut and it's 120m water resistant. Just odd.
There's a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to watch desirability and Stern's comments will definitely do some damage to PP's - which will inevitably affect their used prices. Ironically, he might be making them affordable to just the kind of people he seems to think won't own one :p
The green and two tone Cubitus are not bad, not great but not bad. Just huge
Probably the best take on the Cubitus and the state of Patek Philippe I've seen or heard! 👏🏼
Stern took a square rule to one of the most iconic designs in history and then forgot about the guy who designed it in the first place, crazy stuff.
I still can’t believe what the guy from Patek said there. He’s definitely nuts.
I don't see how Cubitius is any more or less pretty than Aquanaut (ripped car tire dial). Both are not my cup of tea but I'd not call them badly designed. I guess the snobby ceo comments resonate with a "snobby" youth who will be buying these watches.
I now need a 46mm Breitling just because you said that I don’t need a 46mm Breitling.
I like very much this video format.
Laurent Ferrier must feel justified that he took Patek’s style with him when he left Patek .
While I can have a Patek I do not, but this square screams Casio (Nothing wrong with that). Aquanaut would be my buy but not for 48k USD...
Patek is dead to me, but then again, I’ll never afford one, so, Thierry is right.
For me the new Patek looks like a mix of the Nautilus and a Casio Vintage
