I do own a Mido Multifort TV Big Date and I love it. I'm getting older and it's great being able to see the big date without straining my eyes and yes, it does look a little bit like Patek especially with the rubber strap.
Mido released the Multifort TV initially in 1973, a full three years before the Gerald Genta designed Nautilus was released in 1976. The Patek is the homage in this case.
That quote from Thierry Stern is a whole new level of out of touch elitism. What an insane quote from the president of a company that, by its own admission, wants to attract newer, younger clients to the brand.
Patek is the very definition of elitism, even the younger clients they supposedly want to attract will be the ultra rich, you can think it's out of touch all you want, fact is the super rich are still going to continue to buy their watches, including this one. It is going to have ZERO impact on PP.
Some watches really are so different in person, and I haven't seen one in person, so I defer to you! This is really making me crave a Mido TV Bid Date or Maen though, when I hadn't really considered square sports watches before
Great video Britt - as always fresh, authentic and a thoughtful perspective. Watches do take some time to “grow on you” - I did not think much about nautilus at first, but after getting one, it’s incredible! We need to give this some time and then see, say 12 months from now - but this is no “entry” Model - it’s a whole new line that will continue to grow
You are the best. Appreciate your honesty and candid videos. I agree. I have requested the Platinum. Agree that there is a lot of empty space in the other two models. I tried on the platinum and it was very different and stunning.
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
It’s too big. I agree it looks off on the bracelet. It’s not the shape, it’s the proportions. I just can’t imagine paying 40k or more at retail for a NOTilus. The angular design and polished surfaces make it more loud than the nautilus and the added size doesn’t do it any favors here. At least when AP makes tacky stuff there’s a sense of silliness and play, this just feels like an insult to everyone who wanted a nautilus but couldn’t get one at retail
I will probably never own a Patek, but Stern's comment just makes him seem thin-skinned about criticism. Criticism wouldn't shake a company with complete faith in their vision. Stern just comes across as butthurt and petty.
Perhaps if the watch world had a strong independent media that was prepared to tell the companies what they really thought instead of simply blowing smoke up their asses the whole time no matter what they do.... well that would be a start, eh?
Even on James, it looks almost Invicta sized. I don't have any strong feelings about it, but I think you're definitely right that the three handers could benefit from a reduction in size.
Another great video, thank you, Brittany 🙂👍. When I first saw the quote from Mr. Stern, I interpreted it as "There's people who just don't like Patek and will hate whatever we put out, so why worry about them." I'm sure I'm 100% incorrect, though. To that, Mr. Stern should remember that in order to have objects of envy, there must be us peons to envy them. And this peon would opt for the VC Overseas.
I love your videos. You have a warm and sort of fresh way to show and share your watch enthusiasm. Keep doing it the same way!!!! I believe that all the „haters“ of the Cubitus would directly take one of they would have the chance. If they would have the money to afford it or will receive it as a gift or whatever, no one would say „no“. Of course all the new things and ideas are in the first place „never as good as the current/ old ones“. But in time the Cubitus will find it‘s place. And like all Pateks it will be loved. Patek had almost no chance to satisfy everyone when creating something new. If the would have released something almost identical to the Nautilus‘ style, then everyone would have „hated“ then for being to boring or not brave enough. I like the Cubitus
I saw one recently at the boutique in Miami. Wasn’t nearly as jarring as I thought it would be, in person. I didn’t handle it but it looked pretty awesome.
Great episode and thanks for the coverage of what they look like in the flesh. I’ve been collecting PP fora while and while I’m not in the market for a new PP, I’m still enjoying my current 5170g Chrono. Let’s see what this collection is like once the dust settles; and you’re totally right about the bracelet vs the strap. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve never been into square watches, may have at somepoint considered a Reverso, but this just still feels too wide. If they had gone for a derivative rectangle so that it’s less wide, that would compensate for the Nautilus “flanges”. But making it so wide, still feels a bit off.
2:41 yup saw them irl and the two-tone is the only I liked. The pt looks like I need to shake it an few times to get everything to line up right. They have so much space there why do they arrange the dials like that?
Often times enthusiast or critics will hate on something but the intended clients will love it, just the way it is. It is worth it if it makes the buyer feel good. I kinda felt that way when getting my Accutron DNA and am now doing the same as I consider a Casio MRG-B5000 watch. What watch over $1000 is a financially good decision without a wait list? Buy what you love and who cares if it is worth it or not as long as your finances are in order.
I seen a gold one w/ brown strap on someone wrist the other day, I was kind of smitten. I ordered the Seiko homage version the Seikonaut. Maybe someday ill get the real deal!
.... this is the first new range in 25yrs, if you're holding out/wishing for something better give it another 25yrs...this will grow on everyone and will most likely set the pace for the rest to follow... lest we forget, this is after all a Patek
My favorite in my budget is the 6119-G. I thought they were too lazy not making a square movement with a micro-rotor. LUC Alpine Eagle w Poinçon de Geneve, i want more.
Reduce its size to 38-40mm (square watches where larger than round ones anyway) give it a new square shaped micro-rotor movement to match (like JLC do with the Reverso) and change the bracelet design slightly. And it’ll be a lot nicer I think 🤷♂️
Will it be possible to cover Montblanc please ? There is very little on it and I saw the Iced Sea in boutique this weekend, which was very interesting.
Patek changed all models to reflect 30m water resistance, to include the nautilus. For Patek, 30m actually means you can dive and swim to a depth of 30m, not just splash resistant
I feel like the two-tone looks better than the stainless steel model because the watches are so chunky. The additional colour for the case helps to visually break it up a bit. At least that's how I see it, I wouldn't actually buy any of the three even if I could. Stern's comments are kinda blunt, there's probably a better way he could've made his point that wouldn't have ticked off so many people.
It may be a derivative design of the Nautilus as you mentioned, but the Nautilus is a very attractive design, The case construction such as the ears, as well as the finishing have been maintained. It's very nice looking overall, not that I could get one.
Ive said the same thing on Adrian Barker's channel. I actually don't find Cubitus ugly. I just find it very lazy and lacking soul. I think they should get rid of the Nautilus style bracelet and instead replace it with their Patek Phillippe 70s style mesh bracelet (think of ref 35711 or the Ellipse with ref 3634/2G). But the attitude from Thierry Stern surrounding the feedback from the watch community is absolutely foul and distasteful.
When it first came out I kinda liked it However the more I’ve seen it and see the size and their terrible marketing - I really don’t like it If I want a square watch with some history I’ll get the Cartier for fractions of the price And when they say entry level - it should sit below the Aquanaut and have a price similar to the fiftysix from Vacheron- under 20k.
Britt, why for some reason I don’t see myself drooling over this watch? Patek makes many watches worth buying and coveting. Just not this one. But that’s my own opinion. Thank you very much. I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the hands on Britt! Don't hate them, definitely don't love them. The platinum comes closest to a watch I'd typically like, but it's too large and the subdial positioning seems awkward. If I was to invest that much in a watch (not happening) I'd buy a Lange 1.
You like the platinum one best? That's the worst of the bunch, those subdials being different sizes and not centered and symmetrical just looks horrible to me.
You know, I said this in my first video when this was released: This would need to be a LOT more elegant than the Santos to cost £35K. And it really is not! The Santos is such a winner
Please to you tubers we love and trust don't try to sugar coat the fact that it's an un cohesive to be polite and to not be called hater , one flaw as you rightly noticed the width of the bracelet doesn't work with the head and that's something you cannot oversee.
The Cubitis looks way better to me than the Nautilus. I don't think I'd wear a nautilus but I would definitely wear incubus. The two-tone or the complicated one are really good-looking watches. I think they priced it that way so that the people that are going to buy it can differentiate themselves from those who buy the overseas or the royal oak. That sort of thing matters to a lot of people. Stern's statement is refreshing on one hand, but honestly it shows a lack of judgment in my opinion and that's the kind of thing that makes you wonder about his leadership and his decision-making. He could have essentially said the same thing without being so insulting about it.
You said it all. Square Nautilus and only 30m water resistance for a sporty watch and more expensive than the Aquanaut (120m water resistance). Just disappointed with PP as I expected much more and not a design close to brands with iconic square watches. Maybe this design will have the Patek Neptune faith or it could be a hit. Not for me, but we cannot all like the same (luckily!)
What I don't get about the design are the weird-looking add-on bits to the side of the case. It might look fine if it were simply an actual square or rectangle, ala Cartier, but what purpose is served by the extra addition of the pieces on the side? Surely, they can't contain any portion of the movement. As to Thierry's statement, I guess he'll have his answer when the people who can afford a Patek don't buy them. That's just my guess. Does Patek release sales information on each model?
I’ve gone from kind of liking it to absolutely loving it. Especially the blue platinum. I think it’s exceptional and it is a continuation of the Patek design language. It has taken things in a rather unique and unexpected direction, but I am open-minded about design and that micro rotor has got me! Thank you for another great video Britt.
Oh, there must be some other interpretation of Mr. Sterns comments. Nah.... When I decided to buy a "grail" I struggled between Patek and Breguet. Feel good about my choice now! Your comments on the art, history, fashion and engineering are brilliant.
Stern is correct. I don’t have a Patek Phillipe and I never will. By choice (in addition to by finances. 😎) I don’t see anything here that would make me want to sell my Omega for a down payment on this. (TBT, I could write a check, but no thanks.) It’s OK, but the cost is commensurate only with the brand name, not this watch. Lastly, I can’t imagine life NOT being a Pope-Tier Patron. Part of the fun is having different opinions and tastes and seeing where there may be confluence. Not to gush, but this is by far the best watch channel on YT and videos like this are why. 😎⌚️🍾🍾🍾
I didnt realize this watch was 45mm when it launched... Back then I was pretty indifferent since there are plenty of great square/rectangular watches out there... I really dont ujderstand the dimensions except that its obvious that this collection was made with minimum effort. Why is it 45mm? Because thats the size that it needed to be to fit a circular movement into square case. So instead of redesigning the movement bridges and plates, they just make the watch huge ugh...
Felt pretty much indifferent, but the Interview left a sour taste regarding this Watch and the Brand as a whole. In German his Statements sound as bad as people say. Its not only his response to criticism, the way he talks about himself is .. idk. Likes himself probably a bit too much.
I don't get this watch. It looks like a fashion brand watch you could buy at a department store. It just looks cheap. Not to be confused with an inexpensive, good quality watch.
To the untrained eye, from 4' a cubic zarconia looks about as good as a real diamond. You can get homage watches that look as good & keep good time for hundreds. I'm waiting on my Seikonaut now. Gold on a brown strap, from a couple feet away it'll look as good.
I personally think the Cubitus is a complete miss but that is just my opinion. It will, however, sell out/be impossible to acquire and likely become somewhat iconic despite early criticism. Thierry Stern's comment was wildly offensive and the type of statement that gets people fired in other industries. Completely out of touch. I don't care for Patek design language anyway but would never now buy one of their watches now. Clearly though, their President doesn't care.
I can see myself wearing the two tones model, that is, if money rains on me tomorrow. To go from the Nautilus to the Cubitus shouldn't have taken 25 years, even Tim Cook's Apple can churn this out once a year and call it "the greatest *** ever made". Rounded square, cube, rectangular, oval, circular, spherical, diamond, triangle, pyramid, bring them on, Patek!
I don't know what it is exactly, but the more I look at the Cubitus, the more it looks like a fake Patek. As if some scammer redrew the Nautilus from memory and went with it. Even the dial looks unbalanced with the logo being too small and... ugh... I won't warm up to it.
I think Thierry Stern is totally correct in his assessment, although it’s hard to stomach. His comments only reinforce the exclusivity of the brand, and make those who own a Patek Philippe feel even more special. The angry comments directed at Stern remind me of comments made on an instagram models page. “I’ll never have her, so I may as well convince myself to hate her.”
Nautilus and Santos went on a date. 9 months later Cubitus was born. One of those cases where mom and dad are amazingly good looking and the kids just look weird.
I'm confused. When you first started your channel it was stated that your husband has a 6.5 inch wrist and now he has a 7 inch wrist? Please tell me what he has done to increase his wrist size as I would like to do it also.
Oof, man… I have nothing intelligent or original to add to this discussion. I agree w/ the popular opinion from “watch internet” community-not a good design at any price point.
This watch is like someone is trying to prove that people only like watches because of the brand status they provide. If this was a Tag or Oris or Seiko it would not sell a single unit. But it’s not. It’s a Patek - so ppl will eventually all convince themselves they like it. Gotta say makes me tired on the watch world - a good thing for my bank balance, my sanity, and me actually being a grown up in my 40s finally.
I love how Patek do homage on Cartier

Surely, they can't contain any portion of the movement. As to Thierry's statement, I guess he'll have his answer when the people who can afford a Patek don't buy them. That's just my guess. Does Patek release sales information on each model?
Let us remember the fab job Nomos did with 31 colors. 🎉🎉
PP might want to contact a certain mr. Braun in Berlin. 😅
He should not have said it but it was 100% true ✊
Patek and Rolex have never been closer lol.
Oh, there must be some other interpretation of Mr. Sterns comments. Nah.... When I decided to buy a "grail" I struggled between Patek and Breguet. Feel good about my choice now! Your comments on the art, history, fashion and engineering are brilliant.
Theirry Stern is like Austin Powers after being unfrozen-no inner monologue 💀💀💀!!
Not that I could buy one, but I like it. It may be derivative but it’s neat
Felt pretty much indifferent, but the Interview left a sour taste regarding this Watch and the Brand as a whole.
In German his Statements sound as bad as people say.
Its not only his response to criticism, the way he talks about himself is .. idk.
Likes himself probably a bit too much.
Buy a Monaco for the square watch itch , and a Daytona , and a submariner , and a holiday , with change !!!
My answer is i hated it more after the CEO statement.
I'd never spend $45k USD on a stainless steel anything. That money opens up doors to precious metal pieces on bracelets from most brands.
Agree with you.... Internet is quite exaggerated
I don't know what it is exactly, but the more I look at the Cubitus, the more it looks like a fake Patek. As if some scammer redrew the Nautilus from memory and went with it. Even the dial looks unbalanced with the logo being too small and... ugh... I won't warm up to it.
The watch is beautiful in the flesh
What does the diamond do?
Signifies platinum.
^This looks like Fisher Price: My first Patek.
I'm confused. When you first started your channel it was stated that your husband has a 6.5 inch wrist and now he has a 7 inch wrist? Please tell me what he has done to increase his wrist size as I would like to do it also.
He shaved it.
I think the Maen Manhattan looks far better, albeit at a slightly different price point.
The 5822p looks like Sloth from The Goonies
Amazing Watch ❤
ahh the squaritus
Bahaha!
Surely, like everyone else Patek simply should have done a 70's retro reissue, or maybe they sorta have!
Oof, man… I have nothing intelligent or original to add to this discussion. I agree w/ the popular opinion from “watch internet” community-not a good design at any price point.
yeah the Stern comments... oof... as always brilliant and well balanced video! interesting to hear your thoughts having had a cubitus on the wrist.
Hey, did you ever get your 36 mm Rolex Celebration dial? Great video, platinum is nice but the shape is still um, off-putting. 🤷
Love your energy
It’s ok. I suspect the line will evolve like AP’s Code 11:59. 😊
It’s one of those rare watches that looks even worse than the marketing photos
This watch is like someone is trying to prove that people only like watches because of the brand status they provide. If this was a Tag or Oris or Seiko it would not sell a single unit. But it’s not. It’s a Patek - so ppl will eventually all convince themselves they like it. Gotta say makes me tired on the watch world - a good thing for my bank balance, my sanity, and me actually being a grown up in my 40s finally.
