I like the vevor sand filter i got recently. It comes with a reusable insert that covers the center tube from sand and also holds it centered. Been a beast at a reasonable price
Putting in the water is a really good tip for newer filters. Back in the day though, those old Baker Hydro filters the laterals were so darn strong I tried stomping on them and my foot lost that fight! This was removing the old filter and putting in a new one. Shame the labels on the multiports don't even last 3 years now without disintegrating from the sunlight, the old ones used to be some sort of metal that lasted 20 years.
Where can I purchase the slurpy pump you used? I do not see a link and the ones I have found online vary, none look like the one you used. Please add a link. I am located in the US. Thanks.
The lateral I have has screw in fingers. My question is , should the opening slats face up to allow the water to flow upwards or down to have a downward flow? Or does this matter
It does matter. The slats should face down. This gives the best coverage through the sand. That being said they also need to be tight. Nillumbik Pool & Spa Service
Today I made a huge mistake and agreed to take a look at my friend’s pool filter, I’m a commercial driver by profession, not a pool magician. By the grace of god and the Rock Star video that you posted, an expensive and embarrassing blunder was avoided. Thank you sincerely my friend. I’m clearly no expert, I found a Trojan unlubricated condom worked handily to prevent the sand from going down the feeder tube if you might be clumsy like myself.
If you have a cracked lateral then you need to take the whole set out. Some sets are not removable. Then flex them and inspect them to find the break. If others break when you flex them then replace the filter
Hey Mark, It is so much easier to install a cartridge filter, which offers much better performance than any sand filter, regardless of media. I don't get why sand filters are so popular! I hate them, I hate vacuuming pools and seeing dirt blow straight back in- even new sand filters do this. Then there is how messy they are to commission and decommission. Then there are Mpv problems! Forget sand filters please!
@@Marksreviewsandtutorials I don’t see how you can claim sand to be superior to any other filter. Even sand filter manufacturers claim a higher micron value admitting they are less efficient. I am a professional too. It is your opinion, and that is fine with me.
I found that using actual pool sand made for the filter works way better than stealing sand from the grade school playground, I thought I got all those feral cat turds out cause my wife's Shih-Tzu's were full and couldn't eat anymore, now are pool has a Feral-Shih-Cat-Tzu-Piss smell😁
Thank you for this video. Helped me install my lines. Water first, then the sand.

Excellent enjoyed the cardboard sand guard fail and using one hand.

My pipe will not detach from my multi-port valve. I've used lubricant and it's still not budging at all. Do you have any recommendations?
which pipe are you talking about? The ice to the laterals? and is this on a new filter?

Glad it helped. 😃
We accidentally put the sand first....is that bad?
Most likely it won't matter. It just puts more strain on the laterals
How do I know which lateral is cracked ?

@@Marksreviewsandtutorials My question was, How do you tell that one of the Laterals is cracked? Can you visible see the crack
Yes I answered this. You normally have to flex the lateral to see the crack. Sometimes there is a big hole. 😳
How much sand??
Depending on the unit about 200 pounds of filter sand
Thank you!👍🏻😁✌🏻🇨🇦

Well you are welcome to your opinion but as a Professional I totally disagree.
Superior filtration and ease of use. MRT
