Went fishing last night with the hubby, just as he was singing 1-0 to him (he caught a dogfish!), my rod arched over and luckily I had loosened my drag right off, and the line went off like a rocket, caught a lovely smoothhound, my new Tom fishy pink hat is now my lucky fishing hat!!

I've never been as far along as sandbanks, but I've been fishing Avon Beach a fair bit recently and can report that if you like to catch pouting, then there's a boat load of them about at the moment. Mostly small, but I've had a couple of real chunky ones - I'm going to see what it tastes like this evening. Not sure if you've done this one, or if it's worth doing, but how about a pennel vs. no pennel challenge? I often wonder if it's worth slapping a pennel hook on some of my rigs, but more often than not I forget to.
Hi mate, sorry for late reply. It is well documented that I do LOVE pout! Avon to Steamer is always a good reliable venue for these throughout autumn/winter. It can be well worth chucking a small pout back out as a live bait down there too, it produces the occasional monster bass on that tactic! Pout are a lovely eating fish. Ignore the haters, most of them have never tried it!

My bread and butter mono is 0.25, sometimes an 0.28. I'll drop to an 0.20 for light summer work or maximum distance work.
