    What about Pixelmator pro today versus affinity photo to today? Also, what about the refinement option in affinity one?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes will do an upated review soon on Pixelmator Pro and Affinity since a lot has changed. Are you talking about Refine brush? No change to that in Affinity 2.

    I have both, and honestly, I use Pixelmator Pro nearly exclusively. AP is… pretty daunting, BUT I feel it is the more powerful and capable of the 2 and am giving myself more time to learn to use the software properly (difficult with my current hustle to survive schedule).

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. Affinity is definitely more powerful because it both has a layer based editor and a RAW editor (develop persona). Main weakness of pixelmator is the lack of a clarity adjustment and poor shadows performance. Hopefully they improve this in the future. You can check out some of my playlist on Affinity Photo. Perhaps it can be helpful.

    I agree with your verdict to some degree. But keep in mind that Pixelmator doesn‘t include Panorama, HDR, Dehaze, Clarity, Texture function like Affinity does.

      Yes thats true. Pixelmator lacking many features specially clarity. Affinity is more powerful if not necessarily RAW images.

      @@takebetterphotos8132 i personally like Pixelmator better, but Affinity has more functions. I forgot photo merge (photo stacking) to mention. Pixelmator should work on Dehaze and Clarity. Then it is nearly perfect.

    Thanks, I've bought Affinity when it came out years ago but don't use it much, I've watched Pixelmator grow and grow to Pixelmator Pro and have not yet bought it but it seems to have taken the lead for ease of use. In my eyes Affinity is too much like Adobe, just with better ease of use, but that still doesn't make it intuitive for 2022 standards if you know what I mean. I wish Affinity and Pixelmator both all the growth and success in the world, because we need great alternatives ... Pixelmator is also the only design program in the world that can export vector shapes to Apple Motion for animation which is a feature I really wanted since ca 10 years.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment. Yes I think the problem with Affinity is the sheer number of features which they cram into a single app. That makes it much more complicated. However their pricing and value proposition is excellent. Pixelmator has great design but their feature updates are relatively slow. They still don't have a clarity slider until now. Pixelmator's vectors are excellent and very intuitive. I guess that is their target market and the focus of their app not RAW editing.

      @@takebetterphotos8132 thank you for replying so in-depth ! So Pixelmator Pro doesn’t have a clarity function?! What does it have to sharpen images? E.g “sharpening” “texture” or “details” slider?

    • @oblocals
      @oblocals 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Buy Pixelmator Pro. Of course it has Sharpening Features. And he said you can’t adjust perspective but you absolutely can. Warp, Bump, Perspective Transform and much more. Maybe he didn’t look at those features before making the video. I’ve used Pixelmator before the Pro version that brought Vector graphics. The newest release even lets you edit video just like an image. For the price it’s a no brainer to buy. And so easy to use. Plus on sale which at like half off. That is just bonkers cause the price is already a steal. Just MHO.

      @@takebetterphotos8132 Awesome! Should make for an interesting video because Color Adjustment in Affinity Photo support different blending modes, while in Pixelmator blending modes get disabled. Is Pixelmator limiting LUT profiles, or is Affinity Photo providing a feature that breaks LUT standardization? Look forward to your review of this.

    Correct me if I’m wrong but there is no way to save a RAW file in Affinity while working on it, and pick it up later, am I right. You have to commit to the edit and develop within that one session itself. This is a bit of a nuisance if you’re new to photo editing. Is there any work around? Your content is excellent, btw, subscribed.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there thanks for the sub. Yes you have to click develop in order to save and that will remove the ability to edit in RAW. I'm not aware of any workaround, I think its because the prioritize photo persona as the main module of Affinity

    In my opinion, Affinity Photo is much better than Pixelmator. Especially now, with V2. This program is the only real competitor to Photoshop, and you should choose it instead of Pixelmator if you want to develop as a photographer.
    Affinity Photo has the same professional approach as Photoshop, offers almost the same set of features, is very stable and quick and is not hard to learn. In fact, I like it's UI even more than Pixelmator's. Even if it lacks something compared to Pixelmator, it's not that important.
    I started editing photos more seriously a few months ago and am glad I chose Affinity Photo.

    • @takebetterphotos8132

      Yes with v2 it is now once again better than Pixelmator because of non destructive RAW editing, live masks. Will make a future video on this. Glad you are enjoying Affinity!

    Affinity Photo is BY FAR the superior product. I have no idea why you chose to use the product in the way you did but you chose the least efficient way to get your stuff done on Affinity Photo then compared it to an inferior app. I have both apps so I am aware of the details and I strongly disagree with your conclusion, but, in the end, all that matters is that you’re happy with your personal workflow.

    • @takebetterphotos8132

    Pixelmator pricing strategy is a joke, the app is 20% more expensive outside the US apple store and they’re from Europe. I find that insulting and for that alone I would not buy the app

      In my opinion it’s not biased at all. Remember that how you experience a software boils down to your own use cases. This video specifically compares the handling of RAW photos in both programs.
