better than any country song out there! this young lady will just run this hard to cover tune and not only that, she simply owns it. this young lady's vocal range is astounding
Oh my God this is the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard. What a gifted child ... I could listen to this forever. Thank you Aissa.
I listened to many versions of this song by singers like Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Bonnie Raitt, even Richard and Linda Thompson. None of them pulls tears from my eyes the way this does. One of the reasons is the purity of her voice, another is the way this little girl phrases the song: For instance, listen how she holds the note between 'hold me sway-y-y', and without pause she moves into, 'And I need you at the dimming of the day'. Nobody else thought of that, and it's perfect. One weeps.
Yes, perhaps it is an age thing. I do like Aissa and think she is enormously talented..but she is 9 years old and it is a song inspired by a marriage falling apart. I agree, couples should be advised at such times. Of course, if they insist...what can you do eh? ;-)
After checking out at least 15 other versions of this on youtube, I have to say, AJ and MOM are one of the top 2 versions. Seriously. Bonnie Raitt is the other one, but then she has a bit more experience ;-)
Brava! Linda Thompson today posted this video on Facebook, where I saw it and commented "Look at her head/neck/torso alignment, Rene Flemming calls that "singing to the balcony." Brava!" I have updated my blog article on alignment, breath support and "breathy" singing, "Caution: sound "sexy" or "au currant", but you are going to damage your vocal folds", adding this video as an example. Let me know if/when you plan a tour through Boston.
Aissa, Your phrasing is way beyond your years...most adults can't phrase as well as you. That was the most pleasure I've gotten from this song....I love Sharon Corr's version....I love your version better. Your emotion came through the phrasing better then Sharon's cut. Keep it up! Someone will hear you soon and give you a great song to cut. You'll be on the radio very soon. All you need is a great original tune.
OK 2 things 1) This girl sings like an angel 2) The two people getting married look about 13years old... I s'pose that's how they do it in the south. Heck they're probably cousins
Beautiful song , really nice harmonies , but the little girl has a great quality in her voice very pretty, but also has a subtle raspiness that pops out at the right time. What I’m saying i she doesn’t over use it !Very very nice, I listen to it twice and still liked it.
Gotta agree. This is an amazing song and I'm a huge fan of AJ's but this is not a wedding song. Of course I've cringed with embarrassment so many times at modern weddings that I may just be out of step with the times. From my own experience as a wedding singer/player in my younger years, I tend to be old school -- I think that musicians need to know what is appropriate and should advise the couple when a song they love may not fit the wedding service. Do it at the reception.
Thank you. Helpful to us new to the craft. Of course, the delivery was so wholesome and coming from the mouth of a child as they say, .... one can not help but feel it is a blessing. The soul perhaps transforming the story.
She's magnificent. I'm presently working on bringing her to a Summer music festival we have in my city. If I can make it happen, that would be a high point in my musical experience.
Yeah, it's an age thing -- but that doesn't make it wrong. Back in the 70s, pastors still tended to screen the music for appropriateness of use in a church service, saving me from having to point out the obvious. I remember attending a wedding in the late 80s when a suggestive popular song was used. I wanted to crawl under the pew -- but it was about a couple's love. This is about someone who is longing for someone who is with someone else. I'd love to hear AJ sing it in a different setting.
"I see you the street and incompany Why don't you come and ease your mind with me I'm living for the night we steal away " It's in the lyrics, read them.
@timbuktew You have a point. I can see where 'Night Comes In' is about Sufi Islam, what with the references to the Whirling Dervishes ("Lose my mind and dance forever...."), but 'For Shame of Doing Wrong' does Seem very secular. 'First Light' and 'Sunnyvista' are MUCH more 'Islamic' albums than 'Pour Down Like Silver' anyway. "Nor does it make it any less of a great song." I second that!
@timbuktew Want to bet? - His ex-wife does: From an interview with Linda Thompson: 'Pour Down Like Silver was when Sheikh Abdul Q'adir (The leader of the Sufi commune that they both belonged to at the time) said we could make music as long as it was to God... Dimming Of The Day, Beat The Retreat, Night Comes In, they're all about God, and considering they're all about God some of them aren't bad.'
@gaspode18 Yeah, I read too. So then all songs he wrote were for God, so I guess that makes For Shame Of Doing Wrong an Islamic Hymn as well? I don't buy it. Being written by a Muslim doesn't make it an Islamic hymn. Nor does it make it any less of a great song.
He's on a "drug" called reality. There are interviews around with Richard Thompson about this song. The song is indeed as inappropriate for a wedding as it is for a 9 year old. No matter how well that 9 year old can sing.
The young lady can be forgiven but someone a little older should have considered whether the song was appropriate for a wedding. This old house is falling down around my ears I'm drowning in the river of my tears When all my will is gone you hold me sway I need you at the dimming of the day You pulled me like the moon pulls on the tide You know just where I keep my better side What days have come to keep us far apart A broken promise or a broken heart Now all the bonny birds have wheeled away I need you at the dimming of the day Come the night you're only what I want Come the night you could be my confidant I see you on the street in company Why don't you come and ease your mind with me I'm living for the night we steal away I need you at the dimming of the day I need you at the dimming of the day
wow aissa. Im a big fan of this song and it has never touched me as deeply as you and your beautiful team. Kudos to the guitar, harmony, and the youngster on the mandolin too!!!
better than any country song out there! this young lady will just run this hard to cover tune and not only that, she simply owns it. this young lady's vocal range is astounding

Oh my God this is the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard. What a gifted child ... I could listen to this forever. Thank you Aissa.
One of a kind. Just stunning.

Beautifully done by a beautiful young lady!
Oh my goodness ~ I am speechless. So beautiful. Such a talent already!!!
there is something about this version that really tears me up... absolutely beautiful
Aissa Lee,
Linda and Richard Thompson would be so pleased that you covered their song with such beauty.
This performance moves me more than any other I have seen during pandemic. It always leaves me in awe.
So beautiful. I do still get tears.
After checking out at least 15 other versions of this on youtube, I have to say, AJ and MOM are one of the top 2 versions. Seriously. Bonnie Raitt is the other one, but then she has a bit more experience ;-)
That's one of the prettiest things I've ever heard.
Jackie Evancho, a singing prodigy of crossover opera, and now the 10 year old AJ Lee, a singing prodigy in Bluegrass music.
Ooh.
I've only discovered AJ Lee tonight.
I wonder what Jackie Evancho is like?
Tomorrow , tomorrow. Cheers
Wow this is really you?? So young but listen to the strong authority of I was born to sing in your voice. The guy playing the mandolin is pretty good.
How about a remake of this one :-)
Brava! Linda Thompson today posted this video on Facebook, where I saw it and commented "Look at her head/neck/torso alignment, Rene Flemming calls that "singing to the balcony." Brava!"

Did she ever make it oer?
Right.
I'm away to bed now!!! (Only stumbled over AJ Lee tonight - hallelujah!)

This young lady is very talented!

A stunning rendition. Yes the way she sings the chorus endings- 'my better side' and 'my confidante' is better than the pros. How refreshing.
Came close to wrecking my keyboard. It's not waterproof. Beautiful.
If you look at the info it says a Wedding in CA!
FANTASTIC !!!
Future Star! Great Stuff
Amazing! Makes me wanna get married.
OK 2 things

Is she Euroasian? She's so pretty.
wow, I've never been so moved by a young singer. that little girl will be a huge star if she wants to.
She's magnificent. I'm presently working on bringing her to a Summer music festival we have in my city. If I can make it happen, that would be a high point in my musical experience.
Holy cripes. She's wonderful, and one of my favorite songs. Wow.
Wow~
AJ and Betsy! this is absolutely WONDERFUL! I just saw it today and was surprised and delighted to see you sing one of my favorite songs!
AJ's prodigious talent beginning to explode. And nice job, Betsy!
So Beautiful Aissa, and great harmonies Mom! Beautiful mandolin expression as well!! Lovely!
angels do live among us
Natural singer and performer.
wow love all your songs love to get a cd with your name on it ! lol.

Really lovely (not really a song I would have chosen for a wedding, but hey...). Never heard it with mandolin, either.
oh man ! Wow, what a pure voice, thanx she sure is all grown up now
"I see you the street and incompany
Why don't you come and ease your mind with me
I'm living for the night we steal away "
It's in the lyrics, read them.
AJ Lee not a bother on her
singing her little heart out
for her pals...as we say in Ireland mighty.....and genuine can't beat that..
Interesting choice of song for a wedding mind you...
Haha. Fair enuff.

@gaspode18 I'm pretty sure that Richard Thompson, the man that wrote the song, doesn't even know.
A star in the making, now you see how the talent appears at a young age ,what a gift she has
❤️
its AJ top class
Strike the last part, I just realized you are in a band with Molly, will contact you through her!
The young lady can be forgiven but someone a little older should have considered whether the song was appropriate for a wedding.
This old house is falling down around my ears
I'm drowning in the river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day
You pulled me like the moon pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side
What days have come to keep us far apart
A broken promise or a broken heart
Now all the bonny birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day
Come the night you're only what I want
Come the night you could be my confidant
I see you on the street in company
Why don't you come and ease your mind with me
I'm living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day
another video of this little angel with a so wonderfull talent, this song is one of my favorites, thanks to share with us.
claude From Québec , Canada
She is the youngest of five children and her next older sibling is sixteen years older. Nice finale, mom and dad.
Beautifully sung, but a way too mature song for a girl that age to sing! And an odd choice of a song for a wedding...
As Maurice Chevalier once said: "thank Heaven for little girls!"
Omg how old are the bride and groom? 14?
wow aissa. Im a big fan of this song and it has never touched me as deeply as you and your beautiful team. Kudos to the guitar, harmony, and the youngster on the mandolin too!!!
How sweet! I simply love this song, and your rendition is supèrbe!
And the young couple is very cute! :)
