  • What is camera trapping? How does it work? How does the age-old camera trapping technology aid in conservation and research? We break down the art and science of camera trapping for you. Watch.
WCT’s long-term camera trapping exercise in the Central Indian Landscape has yielded some fascinating and important information about tigers, wildlife corridors, tiger population connectivity, anthropogenic threats to wildlife and has even resulted in new discoveries! WCT’s camera traps produced the first photographic evidence of Eurasian otters in the Central Indian Landscape (CIL) in 2016.
Through camera trapping efforts, we have been able to influence policy to bring newer forest areas under legal protection, as well as reduce the impact of linear infrastructure projects such as roads cutting through critical tiger habitat. Furthermore, our robust analyses of the camera trapping data have been helping the Forest Department in mitigating human-wildlife conflict, tiger population census efforts, strategising conservation plans, etc. WCT has also been working to develop the capacity among the frontline forest staff to understand and carry out camera trap-based monitoring of tigers outside Protected Areas.
