In this video, we're looking at 5 "extinct" animals that were found still alive.
1. Australian Night Parrot
2. Seychelles Giant Tortoise
3. Cuban Solenodon
4. Voeltzkow's Chameleon
5. Bermuda Petrel
Somehow I said the Seychelles are in the South Pacific instead of the Indian Ocean. 🤦🏼♂️
Sorry for the error.
Here i was thinking i might be going exticnt:)
At least you showed the right map! 🙂
I was just about to comment that
People love correcting others, I should know, I am one. Putting in some small but obvious mistake in a video would probably be an effective way to boost that video's engagement, albeit perhaps not an entirely ethical one lol
Really touching my heart watching these videos dude
I did a presentation on “endangered species” in 2013, and the animal I chose was the “extinct” night parrot. Technically this was not allowed, it needed to be an endangered species, not an extinct one, but I still did it because I believed night parrots were still out there. I was like 10 at the time. Years later hearing about the discovery of living populations made me feel strangely vindicated.
Did you exclaim “I WAS RIGHT!!” loudly upon learning of this discovery?
You knew all along bro
Thank you for bringing back night parrots via magic
you manifested the night parrot
He knows something we don’t
Good on David Wingate! Imagine finding 15 specimens of an animal as a teen. Then 70 years later, thanks to YOU, that species is up to ~5000 in size. What an accomplishment!
A Bermudian treasure he is! 🇧🇲
A chameleon winning at being a chameleon for over a hundred years.
hide and seek champion 1900 - 2023
Very high quality presentations dude. Your channel is so underrated!
I really appreciate that. Thanks!
Let’s all hope more species will be rediscovered
I hope none of them will be birds because we have too much bird species
@@megazillasaurus No?
@@megazillasauruswhaaaa
Let's hope not. They will stay safe only if people can't find them.
@@megazillasaurusr u jealous of birds of something? Wtf?
these were all wonderful examples, but i especially liked the work done to preserve the bermuda petrol. that kind of thoughtful and selfless work is inspiring
Who knew that the Bermuda Is.had crude oil deposits (''bermuda petrol'').
Refuelling at a Petrel Station gives you wings. Take that Red Bull!
The algorithm is so ineffective now, I feel lucky to have discovered this channel. Keep it up!
I really wish the algorithm would work for me. But one day the TH-cam gods will bless me...hopefully.
I love watching as I learn so much. These videos should be required in schools so kids grow up with the knowledge and appreciation of species that could very well be saved. Thank you for your wonderful content.
EXACTLY....BRILLIANT, cindy!
You channel deserves to be watched far more! These species are enormously precious and important and you are doing a great job of raising awareness about them.
I really appreciate the comment, and I too hope that the videos help others appreciate what we still have around us.
What a beautiful little bird! The green coloring is amazing.
Humans have the capability to mitigate the ecocide brought about by our own ignorance in the past and even the present still. Stories like these give me hope and motivation to be a part of the solution
14:15 they're so gorgeous!!! But their life cycle gives me existential anxiety
On the plus side, at least they won't get collected for the pet trade.
Top notch content as always! Congrats on the doubling of subscribers and hope you get many more! As a Bermudian, its heartwarming to see a vide including Cahows and Dr Wingate's efforts to bring their numbers back up. Really a lovely gentleman. Keep up the awesome work on your vids!
What an amazing accomplishment. Imagine, as a teenager, you and some colleagues find 15 specimens of an entire species on your homeland. Then 70 years later, thanks to YOU, that number has risen to over 5000!
AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING....visuals, pictures, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, INFORMATION...WOW. I had to stop and really examine so many segments/much of this composition. And you even gave us sound recordings of the birds....wow! THANK YOU!!! SUBBED IMMEDIATELY!! Your RESEARCH is INSANE!!!!
The parrots weren't dead, they were pining for the fjords! The Aldabra tortoise is one of my bucket list animals. Solenodons, tenrecs, and shrews are really cool examples of convergent evolution. The chameleons are awesome. I'd love to see a captive breeding program to ensure genetic diversity. The story of the petrels is amazing.
I have a video of an Aldabra tortoise at the Tulsa Zoo on my channel!
They were resting.
Maybe just maybe.. the Kuai OO bird can be discovered again and we can actually save it. I like to believe there are some left out there, just in other places close to its native home 🥺
I just recently found this channel, and its already one of my favorites, keep up the amazing work man
Thank you so much!
Good work! There are a few chelonian species(turtles) that you could do one of these one. I enjoyed hearing you mention the Aldabrachelys subspecies. There are fantastic tortoise and one of my favorites.
I'm happy to have found your content so early on with the "Lost for Centuries" video and the "Failed Reintroductions " video. Can't wait to see you blow up :D
my favorite case of "thought-to-be-extinct" animals is the crested gecko. Arguably the greatest success story as far as overall population numbers go.
10k subs in two weeks!!!
You deserve it man.
Your stuff is top quality and will no doubt get a lot more people interested in the subject.
Just realised that you have 14k subs! I thought I was watching a channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers! Keep going man!
an animal that was rediscovered is the black footed ferret
Yours is a very interesting programme, straightforward and easy to follow. My children were entranced 🥰🥰🥰
This creator's videos are very calming and soothing to watch and listen to. And, highly informative.
Amazing. Your work is important. Thank you for doing this. ♥
Recently stumbled upon your channel and seen it grow 3x since then, would love to see videos about present day critically endangered species, efforts to save them, ways for us viewers to help them via donations or volunteering. Love your calming presentation style :)
You’re up to 20k subscribers now, plus one more from me! Loved the video and can’t wait to see more
Excellent video, first one of yours I've seen. Subscribed
Love your videos! I always appreciate how much detail and time you put into your vids. Keep up the good work, It's paying off!
Don't forget the coelacanth! People thought that it died out with the dinosaurs until some fishermen caught a living one in the 1930's
I think this video is more focused on animals that were thought to be extinct because humans destroyed there habitat
Congrats on the 1 mil on the last vid!
Keep up with the content! I love your videos!
Thanks so much!
Just found your channel well I say just I found it at 8pm its now 2am after hours of watching your channel so I guess it's only fair I like and subscribe, keep up the posting you and yes I am subscribing now thank you so much for so many cool videos
I absolutely love your work, keep it coming!
Just found your channel on my random feed. Subscribed at 18k subscribers! Gotta feeling this channel is gonna blow up like crazy! Your videos are great and educational! Thank you
Thank you kindly, man! What a blessing to hear the songs of the Night Parrot!
I think the Javan tiger is still out there alive somewhere in Indonesia
If you're feeling poorly about the destructive ways of humanity, remember this, humans are not the only species that hunts or otherwise causes the extinction of other species, but we are the only species that actively tries to pull other species back from the brink of extinction. It's not all bad.
Excellent comment!
@@kelleemerson9510 YES...excellent comment...and so is yours!
Well said!
Careful, those kinda thoughts will get you banned off U-tube!
They’re the ones who wipe out species that roamed hundreds of years. Look at American before settlers etc. humans extinct them for bs trophies
Delightful. Glad I subscribed to your channel. I love your quiet, informative, interesting commentary - so different from many I have been unable to listen to on account of their loud ignorant stridency. Thank you.
This was inspiring and emotional. I hope you make more of these. Well done
This is an awesome channel, keep up the good work.
I love your content! So informative and critically underrated! Thanks for the new video 😊
Thank you so so much!
Voeltzkows Chameleon is a tragic story. They’re life span is so short! The females are so beautiful
They're kind of like the moths of the reptile world.

I witnessed an Ivory Billed Woodpecker in the Appalachian Mountains in 1971. I reported it to a representative of the Audubon Society within a half hour of my sighting. He came out and took photos of where I had seen the bird. As we spoke he was grilling me on how I was able to distinguish the Ivory Billed from a Pileated. I explained that I read encyclopedias, whole sets of them. He wanted to see the encyclopedias.
After examining the area the bird had been in, he came to see these encyclopedias. He was stunned to find the most current set of the Encyclopediae Brittanica, as well as its Junior set. Then, a set of Colliers encyclopedias from 1950 with beautiful watercolor prints of the subjects. They became sought after by collectors in later 1970s. From those illustrations I had identified, and distinguished Ivory Billed from Pileated woodpeckers. The Audubon Society representative acknowledged the beauty of the illustrations and wrote the name and date of the Colliers set.
I took a photo, but when it came back from being developed they showed nothing but black and white blurs.😅
If there’s one seemingly extinct animal that I hope is still alive, it’s the Ivory-billed woodpecker.
You put a lot of research into your videos and it make them very interesting to view !
I think the boop boop of the night parrot would make a lovely, gentle notification tone on a mobile phone.
What a gem this channel is! Excited for what is to come!
Thank you so much. :)
Great video! I really enjoyed it! Keep going
Love your videos so much ❤❤😊
Thank you for these very interesting stories!
Very nice video. Well researched and worthwhile.
Only 400-500 Bermuda petrols estimated remaining and they only received an endangered categorization?!?
Guaranteed that’s political, critically endangered would probably impede some aspect of profit from some economic field.
They categorized it, critically endangered
Thank you for a beautiful video! I enjoyed it very much. 😁. Much love from Colorado ❤!
Keep ‘em coming!
I landed here by YTs algorithm. Great video, interesting channel, a lot of good content, instant Subscribe.
Hopefully this will be the case for more species. Great video!👍
O teu canal é simplesmente maravilhoso. Muito obrigado pela partilha. Beijinhos de Angola ❤

Your content is great❤
Wonderful video ❤
omg that little night parrit ❤❤❤😍😍😍😍
Great channel dude.
The last one warmed my heart a bit since an endangered species is finally seeing a clear light of hope for them ❤
Thanks for your content! Top notch
And thanks for your encouragement 😊
This was amazing……….thank you so much
Great videos! ❤
Enjoyed watching the video
These stories made me cry. Not because they were gone for so long but because there is still hope out there for other species - whether they snuffle about in the bushes, or ride over the oceans winds, or only wander where no human has ever walked before.
Congratulations! Sane, sensible, logical, and nothing 'Over the Top'. Your videos will inspire people all over the world to help preserve threatened species Keep up the good work! BTW I agree with a poster here, that your vdeos should be shown to schoolchildren to get them interested in preserving the widlife & indeed the enitire human environement.
Thank you for your very interesting report
Great video 👍
Very good video! Thank You!

I love your content. You should make a video about Steller's Sea Cow!
I love how experts hunt animals for museum collections and then wonder why they dissapear
This is such wonderful news! ❤❤❤ I loved watching this video and hope that more distinct species will be discovered in the future! We also need stricter laws for humans to stay away and destroying certain places.
David Wingate accomplished something most of the rest of us never seem to do. He picked one thing and accomplished it.
Great video
Great video!
great video!
Nice video 👍
good video 👍
How I wish to watch many more videos like this, confirming the "rediscovery"of many many more elusive species, such as the Thylacine, that would be for me a dream come true!
Very good Video. gonna check you out a bit more. keep up the good work (:
Your videos are amazing! Respectfully about the subject!! You have a new subscriber; me
the video is very interesting. i am so happy that those species are back
Keep it up. Don’t become extinct ❤
Nice job.
Keep improving -- in quality and quantity (of subs). Nice video!
The story of the Petrel was great, what an upstanding lad!
Nice presentation.
Fantastic video! This is Very informative, and exceptionally educational. Regarding species thought to have gone extinct, It Very likely that mekosuchus a fully terrestrial and semi arboreal land dwelling crocodile or a close relative is still around today persisting in the remote island of New Guinea, Island archipelagos around New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and other remote South Pacific islands. Mekosuchus used to inhabit New Caledonia, Vanuatu islands, and a related species lived in Fiji. These terrestrial and semi arboreal mekosuchine crocodiles are ecologically very similar to monitor lizards, and grew to 2m, people would have to show local people pictures of dwarf crocodiles, dwarf caimans, and mekosuchus reconstructions and compare it to picture and photos of monitor lizards to show the differences between these two groups and to see if local people In the remote rainforest have seen these dwarf land crocodiles on the island, would be an incredible find! One of these days it could be found unexpectedly from wildlife surveys in the region as well. Also will probably set up an expedition in the future to find a surviving terrestrial mekosuchine dwarf croc like mekosuchus someday.
Also really cool about the fact the you mentioned about the two sub species of Aldabra tortoise not many people are aware about, I only learned about these sub species relatively recently. The Seychelles giant tortoise and Arnold’s giant tortoise, and interestingly the Arnold’s giant tortoise has a saddle backed morphology.
I love the contents.
Thank you for video! If you would make part 2,can you please add Flapnose Houndshark to it? It's beautiful animal)
