  • Here is a quick look at one method of Cresting your Arrows, Cresting was popularized by Victorian Fletchers and Archers, not only for decoration but a useful tool for differentiating between yours and someone else's Arrows in the target or indeed the ground!
Here we use our Cresting machine, parts from an old record player, to spin the arrow so paint can be applied. The person you see using the machine is Lindsay Head, who is a member of the Worhsipful Company of Fletchers.
Do you Crest your Arrows? If so have you made a Cresting machine? Let us know what you use in the comments below.

    Those are very steady hands.
I have to use a thing like a lathe rest with notches in it to get lines that fine.
    Thanks for the nice video!

Is that your mom doing the cresting?
Your shafts have no wobble at all from what I see
    She does beautiful work
    And so consistently the same
    She is really good

Yes, Lindsay made these. She has been making arrows since the 1980`s. I was thinking of doing a video on one of our early hand cranked cresting machines, would that be of interest?

I see your cresting machine is a vintage model and still working just fine.

what kind of paint? and won't the paint come off when fletched?

We use enamel model paint. No, it doesn't come off when fletched, I wouldn't use it if it did.

If using enamel paint, do you need any sort of finisher? Such as using lacquer for acryllic paints.
