  • Here we look at the different sizes/lengths of feathers/fletchings and talk about what sort of shooting each one is suitable for and why, hopefully this will help you decide what feathers you need for your arrows. If you need more help fell free to contact us by any of the following methods.

    I shoot a lot of bare shafts, (traditional recurve bow) just to check my tuning and release. Boy, does that tell a lot of tales. Absolutely no mercy! Thanks for the great video!

    Massively useful. Huge thanks. Trying to find any info on clout arrows is a flipping nightmare online.

    Good stuff. I shoot a recurve traditional bow and I REALLY want a longbow. Had an elk look at me very disrespectfully and would like to hunt next year with a longbow, just something about them. Elk were thick this year, with all the water, next year is going to be insane!

    Hi guys, love the video. It will point the newer archer in the right direction.
    I bought a lovely set of arrows with 3" yellow flechings. They really match my bow. Only trouble is, when I'm hitting gold I can't see the buggers.
    Stay safe.

      Sounds like a nice problem to have! Like arrow damage in the X ring at 50 meters!

    Ive found the longer the better. I dont distance shoot though. Currently have 5 inch parabolics on my arrows, if you have a heavy enough arrow the speed bled is minimal.

    Have you ever tried taking one of the shield or even the 2.5’ parabolic feathers and cutting them into the medieval shape for target arrows? I love the look of the medieval fletch and if it worked as a smaller target arrow fletching I’d definitely use them!

      No, give it a go.

    That red oak bow that I was workin on broke just yesterday afternoon. U could probably hear the string of obscenities all the way over there. I pitched quite a fit. I think it was just too broad and thick. So I took my shotgun and I shot it. Luckily I've started glueing up 4 at a time now and still have 3 left, 2 thin and 1 broarder. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

      @@longbows I am. But oh boy, a 400lb gorilla on meth wouldn't have wanted to pick a fight with me for about 15 minutes after it broke. I had it on my tillering jig and was pulling it from 10 to 15 inches and "Kah-BLOOEY!!!" I've dropped less F bombs when im drunk on gin.

    Great video, as usual! Why do many medieval re-enactment arrows often have such long fletching? Is it because heavier war arrows need more drag to stabilize all that mass?

      Thanks, essentially, yes.

    With your Flu-Flu Reenactment Type, what poundage are you using? i am wondering as i do reenactment and we have very low poundage bows (25lbs), Also i am loving the book, and massively enjoying the videos, that massively helpful in my studying.

    Hey, you ever done barrelled or footed arrows, I hear they are supposed to be the way to go, but I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

    • @longbows
      @longbows  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we have made both. I would only recomend them if you are doing distance shooting, they are VERY expensive.

    I am 1.75 tall and I would like to shoot with a long bow. my draw should be approximately 30 inches, what weight do you recommend to mount the hunting point? I would like to build myself medieval historical arrows with 6 inch feathers

    • @longbows
      @longbows  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, we don't hunt in this country so I don't have any experience in that area, when you say "weight" do you mean the bow?

    • @italianteddyboy
      @italianteddyboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@longbows hello I don't know what the country has to do with it ... I wanted to know what weight you advised me to mount the tip on my hunting arrows here there are bears, wolves, linens, deer, boars and much more

    • @longbows
      @longbows  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hunting is ilegal in the UK, so that is why I mention the `country`, so I cant really help you as I dont have any experience in it, sorry.
