    Well done.... or well said. Here in the Colonies, we do look forward to learning bits and pieces of the craft, presented in a relaxed, and dare I say, entertaining style. Between you two, and Mick Grewcock, there’s a wealth of information to be gleaned, and I do wish to express my gratitudes for it.

      Glad you like it, yes, we will never be as big of a TH-cam hit as Mick but we can but try.

      @@longbows well, I hadn’t looked at how many followers you and your Dad have on TH-cam. Perhaps we all should promote your channel and get your viewership up.

      Thats very kind, if anyone truly knew how to do that they would be kings of TH-cam. Its a bit sad really, we want to be able to carry on making the videos and continuing to expand the website www.howtomakealongbow.co.uk to save all the knowledge I have gained from my father, preserve it, I dont have children so will be unable to pass it on in the family, I was imagining TH-cam would provide the income for that project, but youtube doesent work that way, it doesent seem to know or care if someone has over 30 years professional experience or has only been doing something for a year, but I live in hope.

      @@longbows it doesn’t appear you, or anyone can rely on TH-cam as a platform to run a business from, sadly. I’ll do what I can to promulgate (do you like that one) the word on your website as well as TH-cam for what it’s worth. For me, at 70 years of age, it’s fun making bows (and arrows soon). But I have an ulterior motive: Grandkids. And making light draw short pvc bows for very little money... for very little people is a fruitful pastime. Wait’ll you hear my plans for inexpensive piles.....

      Thanks VERY very much for the support, I really appreciate it, yes, not trying to run a business from TH-cam, I never imagined managing that, more trying to fund the outgoings of the time/money it takes to present the information, again, I thank you for helping with. May you continue to make the grandkids happy.

    Please do a video someday showing the Victorian archery technique to achieve the best scores... Stance, Shoulder position, anchor point, release (good v bad). As you say... an hour shooting arrows is worth 4 hours matching arrows.

      OK, we will add it to the list, thanks.

    I have noticed that a 55# (Lbs) flatbow or longbow does not use the same arrow spine as a recurve bow of the same poundage. Weaker spine between 45-50 is better for a 55# longbow. However, my 55# recurve bow needs arrows between 53-57#.
    Do you have any idea why?
    Have a nice day and take care.

    • @longbows
      @longbows  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Indeed, we mentioned this at the beggining of the video, in the Longbow the arrows have to curve around the bow, a Recurve bow is `center shot` which means it doesent need to curve around anything.

    • @sebastienraymond3648
      @sebastienraymond3648 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@longbows Thanks you for the answer. So if I resume, it is best to select shafts of 10lbs less than the poundage of the bow when it comes to a flatbow or longbow. Right?

    • @longbows
      @longbows  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will stick to Longbow as its NOT center shot, with Longbow one selects shafts 10-15 lbs less than the weight of the bow, this is with arrows of 28" length, therefore, if you make your arrows longger you will need to select shafts that are stiffer, if you make the arrows shorter than 28" you will need choose lighter shafts, adjust 5;bs per inch of difference, this is all approx and a rule of thumb, we mention this in several of our videos, please take a look or check out www.howtomakealongbow.co.uk

    Kidding aside, this is really clear and useful for understanding wood arrows. Thanks.
    I have made a lot of aluminum arrows, and a few dozen carbon fiber ones. They are so "perfect" in terms of shaft to shaft spine, but just you try to make a tapered shaft for clout shooting - HA !!

    Great video. So the total weight will make the arrow shoot to high/low? And the spine Will determine how it deflects to the right/left?

    • @longbows
      @longbows  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that is essentially correct

  • @RAkers-tu1ey
    @RAkers-tu1ey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a really interesting chart (somewhere) showing the different values for the bow / arrow variations verses the human archer variations. . Stuff like 1/4 inch of draw difference = 15% shaft weight, 10% of spine difference, 2 lb of draw weight - Stuff like that. Have you seen that chart?
    I believe it was written in the 70's when Olympic archers were still using wood, and before clickers were standard.

    how can you add weight to a 125 screw on arrow pile

    • @longbows
      @longbows  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok don't know, it's not something I have ever had to do. Usually adding weight at the pile end is done by making footed arrows, I have seen some people add a thin rod of metal into the shaft, like a tang.
