All the issues others seem to have with this vehicle can be sorted with a quick software update. Also handling and brakes could no doubt be improved over time easily with shocks and pads, normal cheap service items. For me it's reliability of mechanicals and ongoing service costs which are fixed to under $300 a year and seven year warranty.

Love your work Paul! Great review as always! I'm wondering if you'd consider testing how well cars utilise their adaptive/radar cruise control? Just before doing the autonomous steering test, you can follow another car and test that your car speeds up, slows down and stops with the leading car and maintains a consistent/reasonable gap
Thank God you did a review on this car, Paul. Please be careful when test driving it, in Performance Drive’s video about this car, they demonstrated the dangerous active safety systems, so I’d watch their video, and be extra cautious when driving it to make sure you don’t encounter what they did. Heck, I’d honestly reconsider test driving it at all in my opinion

Idk what it is with me, but I insta rly fall in love with any car that is made in China. I adore Haval, MG, Chery, and LDV. No matter the car, I just love it. And I meant what ever. I used to want a Haval Jolion. Then I wanted an LDV Deliver 9. Then Tank 300. It doesn't matter to me. China has just come so far so quickly in the automotive industry that it's just blown my mind, to the point that no other country can produce a car I just fall in love with, except Fiats 500. I love that car and it's circular headrests
I agree with you and the price doesn't make it any better! It's becoming really hard to look away from the Chinese products especially considering the high quality, looks and feel of these cars.

An AWD version of the Chery Omoda 5 is expected to come to Ozzyland later on. It's expected to use a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. In Russia, the AWD Omoda (called the Omoda C5 there) is already available, but their version produces 110kW and 270Nm. I assume the one in Ozzyland will have 147kW and 290Nm.

When we spend 35k aud to buy a toyota yaris. But Chinese can spend 160k rmb(35k aud) to get a AUDI A3 or even merce A180. I probably won't buy MIC cars, but I definitely supports them, as all japanese and german car brand are way toooo overpriced after covid. Australian car market needs a challenger to bring the prices down.
just been to Chery today and had a try, definitely getting one soon, the interior, waiting times and pricing just kill japanese cars. Even the BYD are great as well😊
A very handsome car, I must say, like those broad grills, makes it look very aggressive. The back reminds me of a Lexus or a Harrier. I would say they have done a pretty good job considering most of the drivers will be looking at a family car and with the soft ride, it sits well with families...my personal opinion. Anyway, I'm definitely gonna test drive this when it comes to Malaysia. Thx for the review, Paul, clear and packed with info. Oh, forgot to mention that they are giving us a 10-years warranty on the engine here in Malaysia, we have yet to get a chance to test drive it as latest news is that it will be officially launched in July. And you can switch to manual gear mode by long pressing the side button on the gear shifter, it will switch to + and - for your manual gears, so no pedal shifters needed here. And to do a reverse at 70kmh, wow, that's fast, won't be doing that for sure.
Walked past the dealer the other day. Didn’t know what it was till I took a closer look. Didn’t half mind it. If it’s Hal’s as good our Haval I’ll take it.
thank you for the harsh test, it provided me some details whether or not to get this car. appreciated mate. if you can also include some cornering test to show its stability that would be even better. as you don't want to drive a mid range suv like riding a pajero on curves.
I guess thats why manufacturers use piano black alot to make the interior look expensive and if they dont use piano black then people will say it looks cheap
Test drove one today at Dandenong Chery, who were very helpful. Had the car to myself for over an hour. For the price it's impressive. Downsides include - steering was rather lifeless, road noise particularly on the freeway was high, the tech will require a few training session to master, I could get the radar cruise control working. A good runabout / city car. Would make a fine second car. Will await the MG4 and Ora Cat before making a decision.
Hi Paul, was loving everything until you went over bumpy road. I wondered if you have car in sports mode does that change the suspension so you won’t bounce up and down like you did? Car seems to have a hell of a lot of features for the price! PS; love all your honest reviews. I love my music and notice nobody seems to turn on any music so we can hear how it sounds. Do you think you could add that to your reviews?

At least they not ripping people off and this car has way more tech and interior plus warranty than most cars that are worth double the price , well done Cherry 🍒 bargain
Their logo could easily be mistaken for that of Infinity's. Its design is appealing but it's a mixed bag of design cues of other brands. A bit of Peugeot and HRV on the front and Lexus and Nissan on the rear. A very noisy CVT as well.
The issue or maybe question is: how is after sales? Heard a mate had to wait 6 months for wiper blades..... that's my concern is that its so unproven in oz, no mechanics know the product, no workshop want to service it, Chery itself isnt much help if there's any issues nor can u seek support from them, i think maybe in 2-3 years it might get better here in oz for support but at the moment, yes its cheap and offers heaps but goodluck when you need a spare part or get it fixed 😢
From South Africa: I’m buying the base model (called ‘Tech’ here) without sunroof, red trim or safety features in Crystalline black. Yeah it is not perfect, but the price / features/style ratio sold it for me.
I’m surprised and glad to see how much and how quickly Chinese automakers improved. Too bad Chinese cars won’t be coming to the US to compete in the market any time soon, if ever.
The strong Chinese brands like BYD will not sell consumers cars in US because if they do, they will sell extremely well and it will soon become a "national security risk" for the US and sanctions will follow soon, so better avoid US market
When all your leading manufacturers go full woke, and only make E.V's , the people will be screaming for combustion beauties. Let us all hope the E.V nonsense, is simply a blip in the history of vehicle manufacturing.
The question now is whether the Hyundai Kona would be a good choice for me as a daily car. I would mostly be driving to and from university and work, with occasional drives of up to an hour on suburban roads. Would the Kona be a good choice for this purpose, or would another car be a better pick?
The car looks pretty good I guess, initial value for your money is good as well. I'm sure you'd take a hit when it's time to sell or trade, but then it doesn't cost big biccies ... really. Some Manufactures don't realise that vehicle names can dramatically effect sales, especially in the Western market. Chery - or Cherry - for a car ...? Omoda 5 for the model, but it's still a "you know what" Nissan are the worst offenders, with their weird names for their vehicles ( remember the Cedric? among many others) The name can make a difference.
Look at the kind of heavy testing done by these people, and this is a demo car and passed around many reviewers, I think 10L is not much at all, it is certainly not normal family use conditions, Paul you should know that and not give conclusion of high fuel consumption
So I went for a test drive and I ended up putting down a deposit. I am scared with some of the issues, they aren't deal breakers though. Apparently you can change the steering mode to sport also, not just the driving mode. Unfortunately I didn't get to test that though. Hopeful that the technology errors will be fixed by an update. I guess the last brand new car I bought was a Holden Cruze that didn't make it 8 years, either I am cursed to buy dodgy cars or this one will end up surprising me. 🙊
@@Grant80 it got a bit confused on the motorway but it has another feature if you pass too close to another car it can pull you away from that too, so I think the two features were struggling to work together. Seems like a stylish little SUV at a sensible price. The Chinese cars ( all of them I've looked at ) just need to pump out bigger kw's , to be extra attractive to buyers.
Thanks for the review.I am strongly considering purchasing one but the only thing holding me back is unknown service issues and parts availability. With Chery being new to the Australian market, how soon will they be able to fix and get it back on the road should something unforeseen happen? Keen to hear your thoughts. Also, is the suspension as bad as what the other reviewers are making it to be?
You really go in depth when come to talk about cars , really nice work mate, but this car is not a safe one as it is only 1400 to 1500 kgs, which is not heavy enough for a mid size suv, it will go out of control on sharp bends
One advice from Russian owners - you absolutely have to apply protective film on your hood, at least. Paint thickness is pretty low on Omoda, it gets damaged easily.
Thanx so so much for this intro!! I test drove one today.. I found that the sunroof made ( wind whistle) noise while driving with it open & the seatbelt was digging into my hip.. drivers side. What's your thoughts? Thanks 😇🙏

So in my experience if your car radio is on and you plug in your phone the radio does stop as it goes to apple car play automatically. Just press the cars audio/radio button and select your station then press the apple car play icon and you can listen to the radio and use apple car play
Yeah my car does that, I thought that was normal
Love your work Paul! Great review as always! I'm wondering if you'd consider testing how well cars utilise their adaptive/radar cruise control? Just before doing the autonomous steering test, you can follow another car and test that your car speeds up, slows down and stops with the leading car and maintains a consistent/reasonable gap
This is a really good car. They are selling super well in south east asia. They give so much for such an affordable price tag.
Thank God you did a review on this car, Paul. I'm taking an EX variation (I prefer the look of it in white with the red accents) for a test drive here in Sydney later in the week and the only review I found here on YT was a big Russian guy who pretty much trashed talked the car mainly on account of him being too fat to fit comfortably inside it. 😂
Hohoho
Please be careful when test driving it, in Performance Drive’s video about this car, they demonstrated the dangerous active safety systems, so I’d watch their video, and be extra cautious when driving it to make sure you don’t encounter what they did. Heck, I’d honestly reconsider test driving it at all in my opinion
@@HughRussell06 what's so bad about test driving it? You are not obligated to buy,
We have Cherys everywhere in my country, and I can assure you they are absolutely amazing cars. Tons of features at a fraction the price of pretty much every competitor. And they're very reliable
😂😅
Don’t know about the Car Cherry how far it’ll travel with its owners satisfaction but the reviewer has come a long way and will not need any boosters to touch the next sky.
Great commendable performance by the presenter.
We just brought a Black Omeda 5 BX Model, picking it up on Friday 😊 thanks for the review
just bought 1, All black edition. Thanks for the review.
Great job Paul, love your knowledge, production quality and endless enthusiasm in all your reports. Keep up the good work, cheers!
I think that you need an asprin and a good liedown
I agree with you and the price doesn't make it any better! It's becoming really hard to look away from the Chinese products especially considering the high quality, looks and feel of these cars.
i will say, i own 4 Deliver 9s and they’ve all been shit
@@jackcalow2430 That's actually surprising because my grandfather traded in his transit and bought the deliver 9 and he's had no trouble. It's been amazing. What went wrong for you?
@@jackcalow2430then why you buy them? because you can not afford a Ford Transit?
In South Africa and China, OMODA is Chery's "premium'' brand. All Chery's come with a 10 yr warranty or 1 000 000 km when bought new.
The one 10 years Warranty applied only for the first buyer
@@mmathetimphex7235 can you please go read my comment once again.
Chery is not “premium” stop lying. Chinese bots are all over these comments.
@@rogerigez21 lol 😆
wow that car is something to look at
An AWD version of the Chery Omoda 5 is expected to come to Ozzyland later on. It's expected to use a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine.
In Russia, the AWD Omoda (called the Omoda C5 there) is already available, but their version produces 110kW and 270Nm. I assume the one in Ozzyland will have 147kW and 290Nm.
Nobody asked
@@staasinnovations2126 That was uncalled for bre.
More power , the better 👍
@@Adam-7_7_7 And with AWD, much better.
@@staasinnovations2126 nobody asked for your comment either.
rev part was hilarious !! jst seen this car in parkmore today was looking great , bt not sure abt electronics or part issues ! would love to wait anyone had this for a while without much dramas
Omoda is a company operating 33 stores here in The Netherlands selling shoes and clothing 🙂
Hello clog man
You cracked me up 😂
Really great video! Objective and honest review. I'm convinced
Even the BYD are great as well😊
I like the design
I saw one today. It really has a very good looking!
i know you guys do lots of various tests, was wondering if an avoidance test e.g. a "moose test" (as they say overseas) could be added in the future?
We don’t have moose in Australia mate! We’d need a roo test and we’d hit it
Wombat test maybe , because they're solid as a full keg of beer.
Another excellent review Paul. Thank you for the horn test. The car looks great, just need a bit more punch.
Nice review Paul! Please review also the Jetour Dashing. Thanks. More power to your channel!
The Tiggo Pro range has been making waves in SA and not without reason, but I think the Eclipise Cross may still… ehh… be eclipsing the Omoda
Excellent review. It’s going to find many homes in Australia.
I guess thats why manufacturers use piano black alot to make the interior look expensive and if they dont use piano black then people will say it looks cheap
Agreed it's either Piano Black otherwise it's considered cheap 😂
Great endeavour Paul, just like all time 👍 Appreciation from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Test drove one today at Dandenong Chery, who were very helpful. Had the car to myself for over an hour. For the price it's impressive. Downsides include - steering was rather lifeless, road noise particularly on the freeway was high, the tech will require a few training session to master, I could get the radar cruise control working. A good runabout / city car. Would make a fine second car. Will await the MG4 and Ora Cat before making a decision.
Chery quality is better than the other two. How do I know? I am from China
Once the car is in sports mode, the suspension will stiffen right up That’s why he was bouncing. Put it back into normal mode and big difference
Thank you. Very nice car, thumbs up
Such a detailed review. Appreciate it so much!
❤the best car in price 35k
I’m use it now very perfect drive 😊

You are the best, I enjoy your job. All the best for you my friend
Interior and exterior look great ....very stylish
May be an acquired taste for some, i think its gorgeously different
Awesome review. So informative and comprehensive. We will ve buying the silver
At least they not ripping people off and this car has way more tech and interior plus warranty than most cars that are worth double the price , well done Cherry 🍒 bargain
Does anyone know how to permanently turn off the driver monitoring system, it’s agony!! Need help ASAP
Chery Omanda had achieved 5 star Ancap 3 weeks ago. that sounds music to ears
I agree with your concluding remarks. Thanks for making this video Matt and Jacob.
This is a first for someone from Canada. Never seen this before.
Their logo could easily be mistaken for that of Infinity's. Its design is appealing but it's a mixed bag of design cues of other brands. A bit of Peugeot and HRV on the front and Lexus and Nissan on the rear. A very noisy CVT as well.
Hey Paul I am a huge fan of your comprehensive test but please add turning circle.
Great review. For the price I think it's pretty good
The issue or maybe question is: how is after sales? Heard a mate had to wait 6 months for wiper blades..... that's my concern is that its so unproven in oz, no mechanics know the product, no workshop want to service it, Chery itself isnt much help if there's any issues nor can u seek support from them, i think maybe in 2-3 years it might get better here in oz for support but at the moment, yes its cheap and offers heaps but goodluck when you need a spare part or get it fixed 😢
Could you also measure the paint thickness in future reviews?
From South Africa: I’m buying the base model (called ‘Tech’ here) without sunroof, red trim or safety features in Crystalline black.
Yeah it is not perfect, but the price / features/style ratio sold it for me.
Great work Paul !
Chery, ditch the CVT and it becomes a good car.
Nice test
best review i ever seen so much info details,tq good job '
So I went for a test drive and I ended up putting down a deposit. I am scared with some of the issues, they aren't deal breakers though. Apparently you can change the steering mode to sport also, not just the driving mode. Unfortunately I didn't get to test that though. Hopeful that the technology errors will be fixed by an update. I guess the last brand new car I bought was a Holden Cruze that didn't make it 8 years, either I am cursed to buy dodgy cars or this one will end up surprising me. 🙊
I think you’ll find our shit roads here in Australia will effect the lane keeps
@@Grant80 it got a bit confused on the motorway but it has another feature if you pass too close to another car it can pull you away from that too, so I think the two features were struggling to work together. Driver monitoring isn't too bad either, annoying when someone is in the car and music is low but otherwise, the car is a dream
@@sehnsucht000 we have its older brother the Jolion haven’t hound any issues like u said about motorway driving. Strange.
It uses a lot of fuel ⛽️ for its size and weight.
That button on the auto selector is tricky if you press it accidentally it switches to manual mode.
Seems like a stylish little SUV at a sensible price. The Chinese cars ( all of them I've looked at ) just need to pump out bigger kw's , to be extra attractive to buyers.
Jolion has a 130kw+ variant now, and this one will be introducing a 140kw+ version soon
Seems well made
Thanks for the review.I am strongly considering purchasing one but the only thing holding me back is unknown service issues and parts availability. With Chery being new to the Australian market, how soon will they be able to fix and get it back on the road should something unforeseen happen? Keen to hear your thoughts. Also, is the suspension as bad as what the other reviewers are making it to be?
It shows when it's a solid or unbroken line. That's pretty interesting.
You really go in depth when come to talk about cars , really nice work mate, but this car is not a safe one as it is only 1400 to 1500 kgs, which is not heavy enough for a mid size suv, it will go out of control on sharp bends
I will going to have one
Great review! When you use voice commander, I am thinking of Knight Rider.
The suspension on alot of Chinese brands is good for crapy roads, means the car interior wont rattle apart.
Went to test drive the omoda today. Didn't even get into Drive gear. If you're a reasonably tall person, don't bother. There is not head room!
Thanks 😇🙏
Great review
It looks lovely, but how's the reliability?
What I can tell even other car manufacturers are jealous new chery bring all technology with reasonable price better and also smart interior and exterior also with punch engines congratulations chery you made it.🎉🎉❤❤
For the price and features though that’s a pretty good price. Im a fan of the design and the tail lights. Looks that of a Lexus and Q8.
Would be great to see the other features on the digital cockpit as well
I guess Australia spec would be almost the same as we have here in Malaysia and the suspension are so scary man
