in Russia here, the Chery had led the whole market when the all VAG and other European brands had leave our country. The Exeed, Chery and OMODA and also HAVAL are eveywhere!!
And generally the most customers really love these cars cause they're chepaer than European and offer much more!
So, The Omoda is a good choice if you wanna spend reasonable amount of money with good feedback!
And if you worry about safety just check in youtube EuroNCAP test of Omoda
    Best regards all

I really appreciate carexpert’s reviews because they have so many standardised tests (unlike the majority of other car reviewers) which makes comparisons between cars so much easier. Many other channels at best, provide vague statements that are usually highly opinionated and depend on the journalist reviewing the car, so I also really appreciate that CarExpert sticks to one on camera journalist.
    Good work CarExpert!

Just test-drove this today in Cairns, and we loved it:
    + amazing value for money
+ has a bucket load of amazing tech
+ interior trim all had a premium feel
+ it handled perfectly for my use
+ super comfy... I think it has sold me.
Perhaps lacks a little in boot size, but I think I can live with that.
It was super quiet on a 100km stretch, voice-activated windows LOL! Drove the Toyota Cross Hybrid (was not at all impressed with the Toyota) and a Kia Seltos (nice, but a lot more pricy), so they are now deleted from my shortlist... well done Chery you bumped off a few bigger name brands! Oh, and it is available up here in the far north instead of a 6-12 month minimum wait.

Thanks for fair review Paul. We have purchased a midnight blue EX without all the red bling and were sold on price, features and warranty. All the issues others seem to have with this vehicle can be sorted with a quick software update. Also handling and brakes could no doubt be improved over time easily with shocks and pads, normal cheap service items. For me it's reliability of mechanicals and ongoing service costs which are fixed to under $300 a year and seven year warranty.

A proper attempt at systematic and scientific car reviewing leaves most of the other qualitative opinionated motoring journalism from long-established publications looking like juvenile clickbait.
Full credit to putting lane keep assist to the test on 4 lanes, its this type of proper repeatable and standardized testing that people are looking for. The real roeld driving test data and proper presentation of noise level data is especially to be commended.
As for the Chery omoda5 itself, with a $10K price differential from most other Japanese and Korean competitors, (and actual cars available in stock without multi-year waiting lists) the only thing to consider is longevity and availability of parts.

This just made the MG HS expensive in comparison and that's a very hard thing to do. Wow. As long as you don't want a car for spirited driving and just want a sort of family car or even a long distance cruiser, this is unbelievable value. Are you sure this is 30k+ on roads (so around 33) for this top spec model? What on Earth? 360 cam, front and rear sensors, heated seats and wheel, the full active safety tech, SUNROOF, electric seats for both driver and passenger, electric tailgate, 8 speaker stereo, digital cockpit, wireless charging, wireless carplay - it seems to go on forever. This is OUTSTANDING value and I wish them the best. Imagine if they fix the little niggles too in future and make the suspension better, it will be like the no brainer of the century.
I am curious to see what AWD and more powerful models they bring later on. Well done Cherry!

@@MRDARKTURKEY Nope, it's a q3/HS competitor in interior size and overall length. Sorry. And if against the ZS that makes the ZS look REALY bad as the ZS barely gets any of those features. It even has the same 115kw as the FWD HS and almost the same torque.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MRDARKTURKEY I am literally talking about size and clearly said that.
It's 4400mm which puts it in the next size gap up from compact and INTERIOR room is as much as HS. Do you watch reviews? It's clear this is what they are aiming it at. Anyway it's 35.5 driveaway, I checked it out, and my HS AWD was 37 with a few less features and I'd still prefer my HS in this case with awd and 168KW/360nm. Against the front wheel drive lower power HS I would get this no question. I would choose this over the HS essence.
And now I also know why MG has added so much to the HS for the 2023 model that's coming. Front sensors, bose stereo and much more.. they know they have to compete now whereas before they were the cheapest.

Too many (Aussie) reviews are clouded with personal opinion over facts, so thanks for not going that route. When we spend 35k aud to buy a toyota yaris.
But Chinese can spend 160k rmb(35k aud) to get a AUDI A3 or even merce A180.
I probably won't buy MIC cars, but I definitely supports them, as all japanese and german car brand are way toooo overpriced after covid. Australian car market needs a challenger to bring the prices down.

A very handsome car, I must say, like those broad grills, makes it look very aggressive. The back reminds me of a Lexus or a Harrier. I would say they have done a pretty good job considering most of the drivers will be looking at a family car and with the soft ride, it sits well with families...my personal opinion. Anyway, I'm definitely gonna test drive this when it comes to Malaysia. Thx for the review, Paul, clear and packed with info.
Oh, forgot to mention that they are giving us a 10-years warranty on the engine here in Malaysia, we have yet to get a chance to test drive it as latest news is that it will be officially launched in July.
And you can switch to manual gear mode by long pressing the side button on the gear shifter, it will switch to + and - for your manual gears, so no pedal shifters needed here.
And to do a reverse at 70kmh, wow, that's fast, won't be doing that for sure.

Test drove one today at Dandenong Chery, who were very helpful. Had the car to myself for over an hour. For the price it's impressive. Downsides include - steering was rather lifeless, road noise particularly on the freeway was high, the tech will require a few training session to master, I could get the radar cruise control working. A good runabout / city car. Would make a fine second car. Will await the MG4 and Ora Cat before making a decision.

Car seems to have a hell of a lot of features for the price! PS; love all your honest reviews. I love my music and notice nobody seems to turn on any music so we can hear how it sounds. Do you think you could add that to your reviews?

Heard a mate had to wait 6 months for wiper blades..... that's my concern is that its so unproven in oz, no mechanics know the product, no workshop want to service it, Chery itself isnt much help if there's any issues nor can u seek support from them, i think maybe in 2-3 years it might get better here in oz for support but at the moment, yes its cheap and offers heaps but goodluck when you need a spare part or get it fixed 😢

The question now is whether the Hyundai Kona would be a good choice for me as a daily car. I would mostly be driving to and from university and work, with occasional drives of up to an hour on suburban roads. Would the Kona be a good choice for this purpose, or would another car be a better pick?

  • @brianhignett8954
    @brianhignett8954 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The car looks pretty good I guess, initial value for your money is good as well. I'm sure you'd take a hit when it's time to sell or trade, but then it doesn't cost big biccies ... really. Some Manufactures don't realise that vehicle names can dramatically effect sales, especially in the Western market. Chery - or Cherry - for a car ...? Omoda 5 for the model, but it's still a "you know what" Nissan are the worst offenders, with their weird names for their vehicles ( remember the Cedric? among many others) The name can make a difference.

So I went for a test drive and I ended up putting down a deposit. I am scared with some of the issues, they aren't deal breakers though. Apparently you can change the steering mode to sport also, not just the driving mode. Unfortunately I didn't get to test that though. Hopeful that the technology errors will be fixed by an update. I guess the last brand new car I bought was a Holden Cruze that didn't make it 8 years, either I am cursed to buy dodgy cars or this one will end up surprising me. 🙊
