Hi Paul! I just discovered your channel, from your comment on mine! :-) Wow, a fellow solo hot tenter in Japan! And with Snowtrekker tent and stove! I subbed! Glad to see you discovered the "fail" of the Kni-co spark arrestor. Removing that, you should have no problem now with an open pipe, creating a robust roaring draw, and you can cook better and heat that tent up so hot you will have to leave the door open! But I advocate an end pipe cap to prevent down-drafts and smoking of the tent. Keep the spark arrestor cap, but with tin snips cut off the screen and discard it, but keep the tabs on. The tabs allow for a friction fit of the adjustable pipe cap. I made a video on how I use mine, but YT will not let me link it here. Look for a video of mine 6 years ago entitled: "Stove pipe end cap for snow and rain". I know the feeling of the 35 steps, and having to wait and recover, catch breath, lower heart rate, and move on. I call those "death marches". Warm wet snow can cause that, as can fresh snow with sharp crystals. Somehow I keep returning for more winter camping to experience it all over again! :-)

Hi Hoop, thanks so much for subbing to my channel... I don't post much but will post a few summer hammock camps soon hopefully and definitely more solo next winter. I actually got into winter camping from following your channel (via my previous channel - which was more of a mix of everything) I first saw Snowtrekker tents courtesy of a segment on a Ray Mears program - Northern Wilderness - and from there searched and found your channel. You have been a wealth of knowledge to me over the years and I'm honoured to have you as a new subscriber! :) thanks for the tips about the spark arrestor and I will look for the video tonight when I get home. All the best to you and I look forward to more of your videos. Cheers, Paul.

Jacci A Yes, the weather was really bad that evening. It would not have been fun at all but might have made some exciting footage as a tree came crashing through the tent ;) . Thanks so much for watching the videos. Cheers, Paul.

I live in Canada where Minus 30 is normal for our winters and I have always wanted to solo Winter but sadly health wise never. so I love seeing you guys having a blast doing this. I guess I could go with friends in a Communal setting as long as it's not too far from a Town. you speak of doing the same things but this is what's it's all about, just relaxing and enjoying your time out there. do you work there? another thing is your great variety of good food which I think is MORE important than anything else. as silly as this sounds I have no idea if Winter Public Grounds here have cut wood already or do I need to cut it myself, if so I'd have a mini chain saw where I would not be lacking in warmth. I also would take my "Kero Sun" induction Heater on a sled with plenty of Kerosene. thanks for the visit!!

Hi There, Firstly thanks very much for stopping by, watching and commenting, much appreciated. I do live and work here (In Japan) and yes exactly for me it is all about just being in the forest during winter, a large reason for this is that in the other seasons it's very hard to get around because of the bamboo grass we have which covers vast areas and makes it almost impossible to access the forests, in winter it is all buried under the snow and access is very easy, but having said that I also just enjoy winter camping, cutting wood, cooking, cold nights canvas tents, and wood stoves. sometimes I even just set up in my back garden if I don't have the time to do a few nights in the woods. Again thank you so much for stopping by, winter will be upon us soon and I look forward to getting back out there and making a few more videos, Take care and all the best, Paul.

Walley Power Hi there I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. There will be more videos in the not too distant future... as I really only make vids when I go winter camping I figured after watching a couple of series people would get bored with it pretty quickly if I just keep posting the same type of thing. Heading out again in a couple of weeks for the first camp of the season so will make a few more vids then. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Merry Xmas. Paul.

Bryan Resch hi there, it's brand is Pellor weather station - WH1281, but I have seen the same thing sold under different brand names, just a generic product I think.
