  • In this video I embark on my first ever solo winter camp. I spend 2 days and 3 nights in my newly acquired SnowTrekker 8x8 solo tent, with a wood burning stove. This is the third video in a multi-part series documenting my first solo winter camping experience in a Hot Tent in Hokkaido, Japan - Please, Follow Me Outdoors - Paul.

    Nice setup,and love tent ,great idea to have mini gas stove for a quick cup of morning coffee while waiting for wood stove to heat up, tent fly would be nice to shed heavy snow...I enjoy the videos...and cheers.

    FYI, Just got to remember that drinking booze in the winter makes you colder. Although it may warm you for a short time it will dilate your veins and make you lose heat faster. having just a little taste in the coffee but not 1/2 of your flask. I used to be an EMT-IV/Paramedic for NYC-EMS before the NYFD took over in 1998. Just looking out for your health and Safety.

    The snow fall was beautiful! The tent and stove look like the perfect size for 1 person. 2 would be rather cramped I think. Great job on the video!

    Wonder how difficult it is to set that tent up in high winds, solo…seems like the poles should have those push button buttons and holes

    nice series, FYI - Talisker is from the Isle of Skye - It's not considered an Islay malt. It is a fine dram indeed. Try Connemara if you like peated ones.

      Alpha Whisky Adventures thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find it here in Japan. Cheers. Paul.

      You should be able to find it - its an Irish whiskey - so don't look in the scotch section. My taste runs more towards the double woods; however; I appreciate many malts. Enjoying Ardbeg at the moment.

      The one that goes under the stove is available from snowtrekker, the two that I wrap around the back of the stove against the tent wall - i think this is what you are referring to - is just from a local home centre and is to put behind kitchen cooktops to stop grease and oil splashing on the wall. Cheers Paul.

    I notice you don't use a liner on the tent. DO you ever have condensation drip down on you ? Thanks

    • @Followmeoutdoors
      @Followmeoutdoors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope, not to date. I gather by liner you mean external fly? I opted against buying one, but now think I should have to help shed the heavy snowfalls we get here... I was planning on making my own but am yet to get round to it. Thanks for watching.

      Follow me outdoors actually on the inside. Seekoutside sells the Tipi hot tent with a half liner that goes on the side you sleep. If your not getting too much condensation , then you probably have great ventilation. It usually gets worse when cooking inside of tent. Thank you

    why not put your wood in the sled instead of the wet ground and snow

      Great video series. One thing I like to do with my tent is hang a sheet of clear plastic over the door opening so I can see out while I'm inside and it keeps it much brighter inside. Thanx for sharing your trip
