    Can confirm on a few points. This is the only Thursday pair that I own. The Arizona Adobe leather wears in beautifully. Just wear them like crazy for a year and hit them with a horsehair brush and that's it, they'll look amazingly worn in but also clean with just enough shine. I'll confirm the sizing comments. Thursday claims that you need to size down. I think that's a blanket statement based on most of their non moc-toe boots. I think the attempt of making a low-profile moc-toe boot pushes back the toe-box a bit more than a normal cap-toe boot, the seam on the top makes it a little more tight. These run small in my experience based on their recommendation. The laces are great too! They're a bit long and a bit stiff at first but once you tie them they're the perfect mix of tough and easy to tie. Absolutely love these - just beware of sizing issues.

    I have 3 pairs of Red Wing moc toe (4 if you count 2015 huntsman) and like you said, the Thursday Diplomat is a go to pair when i am not sure what to pick and when i feel like i want something soft and comfortable on the go. The only thing i dont like about it is the tongue not stich together with the whole upper and that make me feel like it loosen up when they fully break in (not to the point of heel slip but feeling of relax fit). Anyway, all your opinions are spot on. By the way, your pant look really good when you talking about the bad. Would you mind tell us more about that jean cut ? are they tapered down or straight taper
    PS: i run everyday for at least 30 mins so my feet are build and they not soft. I have no problem at all with the Thursday diplomat right out the box and tbh, they kinda feel like sneaker to me. Even Red Wing 1907 do my feet no harm, no hot spot, no blistering but that just me

    The Arizona Adobe is one of Thursday’s Rugged & Resilient leathers. In my experience, the R&R leathers will destroy your feet during break-in. That’s because it’s a much tougher leather. That said, once they’re broken in, they’re a delight to wear. I really love the R&R leathers even though I go through so many Band-Aids for each break-in.

    I purchased the Thursday Captain. They suggested a half size down compared to my regular shoes, I own 10 pairs of shoes all in size 13. But the Thursday Captain I ended up settling on was a size 14. Which made buying difficult because I originally ordered a 12.5 which wasn't even close. The 13's fit but were unbearably tight. I am thinking about getting the Diplomat now too. I love the Thursday Captain's a lot. But I want something more casual to compliment them. I think I am going to try size 14 again.

      @@StrayReviews They changed the last they use for the Captains. Actually, they changed the last twice in the prior couple of years. I have the oldest last, and they are sized 1/2 size down, and they are kind of tight. I could have used the extra room, I have to wear the thinnest socks I can find and they are still a little snug. Supposedly, the next last was too wide and people didn't like the look, so the current last is a compromise, wider than the original, but narrower than the previous if that makes sense.
      The Diplomat last and the Captain last are also not the same.

  • @tigoat2
    @tigoat2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m on the same page regarding sizing and break in. I bought the same size as my Captains and found them a little more snug and not possessing the same out of the box comfort. They have broken in wonderfully, though, and it didn’t take too long at all. They seem on par with the Thursday Scouts I also bought, being the version with the Christy sole and leather midsole. Great review, by the way!

    I love the look of the diplomat, but I live in Canada and am unsure if the outsole grip design will accommodate the snow and ice conditions. I am aware of the new line of "lug outsole" diplomat, but it does not come in the wide (ee/eee) options. Wondering if anyone can give an input of width and fit comparison between the regular sole and lug outsole diplomat boots. Also, does anyone know how these compare in fit with the captain boots?

    The Arizona Adobe leather is relatively thick and inflexible when new and that means it is going to take a little time to mould to your feet (unless it fits you very well).
    You either choose a more flexible leather (like the aforementioned Whiskey) and have an easier break in or go for "tougher" leather.
    I own boots in both leathers (amongst a very large Thursday collection) and haven't noticed any difference in durability. The Arizona Adobe is a much more casual leather and appears to be heavily sanded and oiled nubuck whereas the whiskey appears to have had a lighter touch with the sander but appears a little thinner. There are so many finishes and processes that are applied to leather nowadays that it is difficult to be sure but it is likely that the Whiskey leather has been glazed to make the surface shinier and smoother.
    None of the Rugged and Resilient leathers are full grain as far as I know and from my experience you are better off with their heavily processed leathers like these or Thursday Chrome, Chromexcel etc. than the dressier cow leathers that tend to show where Thursday are economising to reach their low price point.

    • @StrayReviews
      @StrayReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That makes a lot of sense. I have a pair of Thursday chrome Presidents and I think they’re my favorite leather of all my Thursdays.

      @UnknownUser-rb9pd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@StrayReviews Yes, I have those and the Captain version and like the leather very much. Similar feel to Chromexcel with more consistent colour but less likely to patina and less prone to excessive creasing. Having said that I still love Chromexcel leather a little more.

    I have a question about the sizing issue. When you said the boot was too small, was that the length of the boot, or the width, or both that was too small? I have a pair of captains and they fit fine. But, I have a very narrow foot and have to order smaller in length to get a better fit and I am now considering the diplomat. Thank you for your advice!

    Best looking all around moc toe but fit is too tight. I’ve never bought a wide pair of shoes so I went with Thursdays recommended 1/2 size down and they were incredibly tight. Sizing, for me, always seems to be way off base regardless of company. I have extra wide feet (4E) and high arches. Yet I have short feet. More often than not an employee will measure me at a hair shy of 9.5 extra wide (right foot but left is a 9EEE). Yet, they always try to stuff my foot into an 8.5 D. Redwing does this and so does everybody else. Then they get this perplexed look on their face when my foot won't even fit in the boot! All of that to say that you should trust your feet. If you have wide feet, and you know it, like you always get a 4E tennis shoe then don't size down on boots instinctively. Or at least that has been my experience.
    For Thursday what I did was send an email about my current sizes in my shoes and boots, my redwing computer size, my Brannock size and they advised me from there. A whole size larger than what their site told me. When in doubt, ask. Now as for an example: I got the President in 10.5D and it is borderline too small. It has broken in and it is wearable but a 10EE would have been a smarter choice (wasn't available). That is one whole size up from my most worn sneaker (New Balance 9 4E). Comparatively I am a size 9.5EE in Iron Rangers and a 10D in 875. I go as high as 11 in Doc MIE and Lems Boulder Boot.
    Boot sizing is hard enough in general but adding extra wide feet into the mix is awful, lol.
    Anyway, I enjoyed the review. Thank you for sharing.

    • @StrayReviews
      @StrayReviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Kit! "trust your feet" is really good advice.

      I wanted to update to help others buying online. I have a pair of presidents in 10.5D on the Kingmaker last and they are almost wider than my Diplomats in 10 wide. But the diplomats are wide in the right places to make them more comfortable out of the box. Plus, the toe box is more rounded. Anyway, for reference to others on Thursday sizing I am most comfortable in a 10 wide, but my Brannock falls between a 9-9.5 4E depending on the time of day and employee measuring me (half a size down on the left foot).
      As to fit and last shape. I often have a hard time with moc toes being heavily contoured at the arch, but these are pretty flat/boxy so no arch squeeze. Comparatively I can't even get a Thorogood on my foot without heavy arch pressure. These are almost identical in fit to my Danner Bull Runs but a wee bit tighter in the toe box on the pinky side. That said the shape of the toe box allows for my big toe to not run into the side. On a more almond shaped toe box I feel that my bit toe is hitting a wall, lol.
      Again, for those looking for a reference: Brannock 9.5 4E (+/- .25) - Redwing size 9 3E or 9.5 2E (heritage) - Danner 10 EE - Thursday 10 Wide - Thorogood unwearable - Lems 11 - New Ballance 9-9.5 4E (material dependent).
      As an aside, these are way, way more comfortable underfoot than my presidents out of the box. I don't get on well with heeled boots, lol.@@StrayReviews
