    I've got the Grant Stone Ottawa, Red Wing, Whites, and Thorogood moc toes. I honestly love them all. The 8" safety toe Thorogood is my go-to work boot. Crazy comfortable, durable, longlasting, and good looking. Yard work, hiking, camping, meeting the guys for beers at the local watering hole: Red Wings. Just *the* classic Americana boot. This is the boot the others are imitating. Period. Everything else, anything a little nicer, I usually go with the GS Ottawa boot. My Whites getting worn the least. Rarely, honestly. Any time I'm likely to wear them, I'm just more likely to grab the RWs. Nothing wrong with the Whites. They are great boots. I just usually grab the RWs.

    • @StrayReviews

    For the people that doesn’t know Grant Stone is an American company making high quality boots with American, Italian (and other countries) materials assembled in China. Thats why you get an $800 pair of boots for half the price, if they were made here in the states you’ll be paying $700-$800 for a pair easily.

    • @StrayReviews
      @StrayReviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True. Really great boot for the price regardless of where it’s made.

    • @Isahiyella
      @Isahiyella 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll pay the $700-$800 price tag for American made boots. Grant Stone is not an American company. They are venture capitalists that have a company name based in America that outsource jobs to China.

    • @TheMIghtyElmo
      @TheMIghtyElmo หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No they wouldnt be 700-800. They'd be like 500. There's plenty of American companies with exact same quality materials as grant stone for 500 bucks. For example Truman.

    • @umbertosmith7014
      @umbertosmith7014 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Grant Stone is a chinese company made in China. To be an American company you need to make your product in America...
      For 399$ you can get a Truman rough out boot made in USA...with better materials. Grant Stone is probably ripping its customers off with its inflated pricing.

    Great review sir! I have never heard of the Nomad but it looks great. I might have to grab a pair. And I agree about the forest green. I own the Grant Stone Brass boots in the Kangaroo leather Forest Green and they look awesome!
    I don’t have the Thursday Diplomats, but I do own the President and Captain. Both great daily drivers, but I’m sure you will agree with me that there is a major step up in leather quality when comparing them to Grant Stone or Red Wing. I have two RW iron rangers and they are absolutely incredible.

    Not everyone can afford the Grant Stone Brass boot, so opted for the Thursday Diplomat. I like the bit slimmer look to the toe and reported arch support. I made the right decision. My boot is true to size and fits like a glove. Walking all day the first day was comfortable right out of the box, after break-in these will be even better. Great boot at a great price and Amazon makes returns a breeze.

      I believe Rusell is the last true moc toe made in America (where the upper's leather wraps around the bottom.) But there are other made in the U.S. moc toes where the stitching at the toe connects two pieces of leather (like Red Wing).

    My Dievier boots had quality control issues and I found the leather to be thin. A lot thinner than a Red Wing and that’s why they didn’t need breaking in. Thursdays are more comfortable, but that pouron insole will wear down and it’s not replaceable. Grant Stone and Red Wing have better leather and will last longer. I also hate how Dievier and Thursday pander to the boot TH-camrs. Thursdays are fine, but I can’t stand influencers telling me that they’re a better quality than a Red Wing, Grant Stone or any other PNW boot brand. Total lie.

      From a construction and durability standpoint I prefer the RW.
      Thorogoods leather tumbling process and construction makes them more comfortable, especially straight out of the box.
      Carolina AMP USA basically managed to combine the drawbacks of both for a little less money than either. I've heard mixed reviews on their recent product.
      Those were generally the boots of choice in my former trade.
      I wore RW Steel Toes at work and Thorogood Soft Toes kicking around the farm. Completely happy with both for that application.

    It was a nice video however, your sizing advice on the Brass boot is a little suspect. I wear a size 10D in On Cloud sneakers and Underarmor sneakers. My first pair of Grant Stone boots were the Ottawa's and I bought them in a 9.5D and they were WAY too big. The width was perfect but the length was not. I had a ton of room in the front. I emailed GS and told them that my Thursday Captains were a 9.5D and I felt like these Ottawa's were too big and they were. They told me to try a size 9D and I did and they fit perfectly. That's an entire size down from sneaker size and my brannock was a 10.25D. The Brass boot has more room in the toes so I would recommend going a full size down because I have now purchased 3 pairs of GS, all on the Leo lasts all in the same size. The Flyod last is bigger and I have not purchased a Brass boot but I intend to sometime in the future. I now have the Crimson CXL Ottawa's, Dune Diesel's and Black CXL Diesel's with a leather sole and they are the best boots I have ever bought and I have 3 pairs of Thursday's that I bought late last year.

    • @StrayReviews
      @StrayReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have a pair of Dune Deisels and they're amazing. I'm a Brannock 10 and took both of my Grant Stones in 9.5. I would say that they're roomy but not too big on me. But, I like my boots roomy and often wear thick wool socks in winter. I could see why some people would prefer to go a full size down.

    • @adamcuthbert9498
      @adamcuthbert9498 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On's and Under Armor are exceptionally narrow so it could be that you're naturally compensating for the discrepancy being that they are closer to a C width as apposed to the grant stones being closer to a E width and the Thurday's being closer to a D width, every width change up accounts for about a .5 size down in overall size as a general last rule.

    • @NotMyRealNameDaDa
      @NotMyRealNameDaDa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's consistent with my experience but with the brass boots. I got size 9.5D and they were too big. Now waiting for my 9D replacement to arrive and hopefully the fit will be right

      @williamswiger7547 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wear a 1/2 down in almost all quality boots. Truman boots are true to size for me. The Brass boot is too short going a full size down and at a 1/2 size down the length is a little long. I ended up just putting thinner inserts in them and they are fine. Would have been interesting to try an 11E instead of the 11.5D I bought. Am a true 12D.

    "True to size" is a very tricky thing, people. For example, it's common knowledge that snickers have different sizes than dress shoes. And boots are no exception from this as well. Take my case: I wear 13 size in snickers, 12 size in dress shoes and boots' sizes run even smaller! So saying "true to size" is not a correct way to describe how well the boots fit. You need to know true to which size it is: sneakers, dress shoes, or boots you have.

      White's Fulton.
      They were $255 over Father's Day. Back up to $340 now. They come with the Vibram Honey though, not sure how you will feel about the color. I think they look awesome with the Brown Distress. If you order a set make sure you talk about sizing. PNW Boots can run pretty large (I'm an 11E standing on a Brannock and wear 9.5EE in a Frank's 1977 Last #4 Toe). Most need to downsize 0.5 - 1.0 sizes in a typical PNW Boot.

      I find the Jaimvada (Japan) boots available through Baker for $399.95 to be very similar in quality of materials and construction if you have issues with the source of origin.
      The NWP bootmakers are making some nice budget boots in the $300 - 400 range. White's had a bunch of Moc Toes on sale over Father's Day in the $250-270 range and those are real step up from RW in my opinion. I almost bought a set of White's Fulton for $255 in Distressed Brown with Vibram Honeys but I stole a set of mismatched custon Frank's Ground Pounders (When your feet are 0.375 Size different 0.5 Size is no big deal) for a ridiculously low price (50% Off).
      The same Russell boot that my Grandfather paid $20 for in the 1950's is $755. In some cases the USA builders have simply priced themselves out of the market. That is about triple the inflation.
