Toyota Sequoia Overlanding the Olympic National Forest

- We FINALLY take the #2ndgensequoia out on her first trip to Olympic National Forest in Washington. This will be our first #overland trip in the rig since adding the lift and the 37 inch Nitto Recon Grapplers and while it was a relatively easy and light trail, the rig did really well. There are some things we need to sort out with #overland storage and we need to get our rig a little more tidy but overall the Sequoia did not skip a beat. It was a real pleasure to take out on the trail and I can’t wait to tackle more.
The Water crossings and the views were unreal, and we even got to drop a few fly fishing lines, sadly we didn’t catch any fish but the time out there was well worth it. #toyotasequoia #frpitcrew

For those of you that dont know, that is a Military Issue Boonie Hat. This particular pattern is known as as the chocolate Chip pattern. It was issued to The US Forces during the Gulf War in 1990. Historically speaking, the chocolate chip pattern was the 1st Desert Camo pattern for US forces as GULF WAR was our 1st theater in Desert. It was later used in Mogadishu Somali. Major General Norman Schwarzkopf wore a Similar Boonie Hat during the Peace Negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
I love this channel, there is always some hidden interesting quirks. Thanks to this channel, the 2nd Gen SEQUOIA is starting to grow on me and i have acquired a new found respect and admiration for the tree.
OBVIOUSLY need more overlanding content
Hell yes! Thank you for commenting and letting us know. I wasn't sure if people just wanted to see install videos.
The Sequoia looks so awesome on 37s holy cow! What an epic camp spot, too!
Thank you!
this thing is SO COOL
She is an apartment on wheels
More videos of the Sequoia in action!
Coming up!
Great vid. Nice trip! Thanks
Our pleasure!
Killing me seeing such an awesome Rig. I need a 2nd gen sequoia. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Hey bro, here is a tip for your chocolate chip boonie hat: Get a long wire the thickness of a paper clip and thread it inside the edge and around the perimeter of the brim. That stiffens the brim such that you can mold the brim like a cow boy hat or to your liking and keeps the visor from floping around.
Also, the the lanyard is worn in the back of the head and not on the chin. Kinda like the drill sergeant's hat. Once in the back, cinch it tight and all the combat veterans will forever respect you.
That's a very collectible hat as its military issue and was only issued between 1990-1992 to troops deployed to the Gulf War or to Somali.
American GI in stateside or europe were never issued the 5 color desert camo they were only issued Woodland BDU. Deploying forces to Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar and Somalia got the Desert Camo.
Cheers
Holy cow I had no idea about the rareness of the hat. I did get it from an army surplus’s store near me. Thank you for all this info.
Love all your videos!
Thank you so much for watching
That’s awesome man you two are awesome and keep the videos coming!!!!!
Thank you so much we can't wait to go back and film some more.
Absolutely enjoyed this 👌
So glad! Thank you for watching!
Awesome videos gang 🙌🏽🤙🏽
Much love to you and the fam.
Dude that shot from passenger side where you’re driving along the bank makes the sequoia look like an rc truck 😂 never thought anything could make our tree look small like that. You rocked that hat man 🤙🏽 love seeing Emilys smiley face after the first drive, it reminds me how much fun off roading is 🙌🏽
She loved driving it! I think she’s gonna have to wheel more in the videos.
Nice setup! We love our Seqoia too.
Loved the vid!
Thank you for watching!
Great camping spot 👍😎👍
Thank you so much! It was a narrow path but man was it worth it.
love the good nature vibes man 🤝
Thank you thank you. And I’m rocking quite the dad hat in this video too. lol
@@CoolGuyClub lol hell yea 😂
opt to buy a 2020ish 4runner and then i saw your channel. now i want a 2ndgen sequioa.
Hell yes!! They are fundamentally different in many way but the big tree is awesome if you need space
Love my V8 4th gen 4runner, Sequoia looks good 👍🏼👍🏼 NEED that bagged coffee ☕️
Totally not sponsored by any means but it was really good for only being $14 on Amazon. amzn.to/3RduEal
Nice Sequoia!
nice setup.
Thank you!
Right on man!!! Fellow PNWer here. Love the rig….i need to hit up Olympic as well!!
Thank you for watching! Get ready for a super wet winter lol.
Just picked up a Sequoia Platinum! Very excited to make it my own!
What a great purchase. If you need advice for the build just let us know!
@CoolGuyClub I definately might ask to pick your brain! Have mainly owned domestic trucks until now...

Yes sir!
Awesome video. Absolutely loved it. Have you figured out the whole alignment problem you mentioned?
You inspired me to go with a 2.5” suspension system and JBA UCAs and 295/70/18s.
Yessss!!! JBA’s are so good I’m so glad you went with them.
Yes I got the alignment all dialed for now. I retorqued and re greased every bolt myself. I hope it lasts.
@@CoolGuyClub awesome, looking forward to more videos!
Awesome vid! Any details as to where that is roughly?
It’s in the south west side of the peninsula. I was given this location through Patreon support of @OfftheGrind. You can definitely get this spot and more through his Patreon.
Hey just heads up, if the sequoia is like the tundra which I think it is. Topping off your fuel like that can saturate the carbon filter and cause lots of problems long term! Anyways, awesome video man! I have a tundra semi built out for overlanding and looking at a sequoia for my wife at some point!
Thank you for the heads up.
Great Video!!! I hear a little squeaking from your sequoia. I also have that squeak on my own sequoia. Do you happen to you where that sound is coming from?
Great ear! That’s from our dobinsons shock extenders in the rear. I just need to add some grease and it will be good to go.
Are you running Dobinson shocks in the rear?
No I'm running eibach HD Tacoma shocks in the rear. It's a tad soft as you can see in the video but it's GREAT offroad. I think I may have to use a heavier valved shock when we add our rooftop tent.
Bruh, not the topping off 40 secs in 💀
Ahaha I always do it. My charcoal canisters hate me
@@CoolGuyClub😭😆
Great video, I'm 1 month into ownership of my 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD sport and after a 3inch lift, tires, and a few other mods I'm in love with it. If your spot is not a secret could you give us the GPS location for it? it looks amazing and we need an another trip before winter hits here in our great state of Washington. And yes more overlanding!
Thanks so much for watching!
I just don’t feel right sharing the spot because I got it from supporting @offthegrind and his TH-cam channel.
He has a ton of spots like this available through his patreon. I hope you can understand.
@@CoolGuyClub thank you so much for getting back to me. I completely understand and appreciate it. I’m hoping in the future that you have a Sequoia meet up? GEN 1, GEN 2, and maybe even GEN 3? There are so many beautiful places in Washington state. I would definitely be there. Thanks again for the great content.
i watched your previous comparison video between your gx470 and your sequoai. Now that you have had the sequoai for sometime do you have a preference between the two. I'm in the market for an off road rig and prices for a high mileage sequoai and gx470 seem reasonable. Preferably i would like the ability to sleep inside the rig. I am 6'4" not sure i would fit in the gx470
If you want more space get the sequoia. If you want more off-road capability go gx470. It’s that simple. The build quality of the Lexus is just sooooo much higher than the sequoia but it won’t matter if you need more space.
Re-geared? Supercharged?
Nope and nope however I wish I had both of those
what's the thing on the hitch?
Our waterport. We keep it low because 5 gals of water weighs a ton.
More PNW overlanding please!
Thanks so much for commenting. We are planning our next trip at this very moment, can't wait!
Nice and functional rig,TBH.Atleast not a mall crawler.
Thank you!
Do 2nd gen. Sequoia’s have A-TRAC?
Yes indeed
Can you post the coordinates of that spot? I gotta check it out!
Look for twin lakes campground near the Wickiup reservoir and you can find some excellent forest service roads to explore around there.
@CoolGuyClub how bout the first one in the Olympic National Forest?
