In this video I turned a whiskey bottle stopper shaped like a whiskey barrel. I hollowed the barrel out so it can be used as a shot glass too. The bottle stopper I used as designed to fit top shelf whiskey bottles. The stopper is 304 food grade stainless steel and sold by Ruth Niles nilesbottlestoppers.com/

Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. We also do a lot of epoxy projects as well as woodturning.

Great job, I like that! FYI Urban myth on how the term a "shot" of whiskey gets its name: In the 19th century American west. A single drink of whisky in a small 1oz glass cost 12cents and so did the average cost of a single bullet. So if a cowboy was short of cash he could trade a "shot" from his cartridge belt for a drink of whiskey.

    Great vid and project!
I've made something similar before. I used bamboo skewers to burn the bands in. The skewers will deform around the glass and when the friction builds up it will begin to burn just like a wire friction burner will. But I did the burning before hollowing. It gives a really nice even line, but it does cut into the wood a bit. I had to give it a guide line with the tip of a skew to keep it on the rounded part of the cup. I've even used metal coat hangers before.

Hi Kerstin, I hear about the flooding over there I hope you're doing well. We're fine here but, southern Oregon is on fire. It's so bad!
