    Hi, they look great, well done. I made something similar for espresso shots for a friend who owns a coffee roastery. Might I suggest simply parting off on the lathe? It is quicker & safer than going to the bandsaw, leaving a concave base so it stands steadily on the bench too. I use a oneway rotating tail centre which supports nicely, as the drill bit rubbing can overheat. I like the laser too, better than my own hand written pyro. Well done again,

    wasnt gonna comment this because it's a little embarrassing but yah gotta laugh at yourself lol
    When you stopped the lathe,Before you cut the end I thought "wow how did he get such nice wood grain effect" 😂😂
    Then I realized... think it's time for another cup of coffee hahaha
    Awesome work think I'm gonna give this one a good!

    Ordinarily I find background music annoying (weird, right? I don't know why), but I quite like this one! Especially as we're not being made to try to hear dialog at the same time. Well done!

    Pretty big for a shot glass? Nice looking work though!

    Absolutely love it. ! other than the charring no finish on the inside ?

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Other than sanding sealer on the outside bottom, we do not add any finish to the inside leaving it natural

    I tried making a shot glass yesterday for the first time and the drill bit was burning all the wood inside. how do I avoid that?

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We simply use the Forstner bit as optional tail stock support, but not necessary. Try reducing your lathe speed or just simply drill it out at the end. Hope this helps, good luck!

    What size Forstner bit did you use? Love the barrel!

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! For our stock dimensions we used a 1.25" Forstner bit

  • @TheWoodgineer
    @TheWoodgineer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They look great! Mind me asking, why did you only drill part way with the Forstner bit and then come back to it rather than doing it in one go or doing it last?

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thankyou, we appreciate all questions & comments and do our best to reply to them all. Leaving the Forstner bit part way serves as a steady while shaping the exterior. If the inside gets a few marks from spinning on the bit we see it as ok because it is going to be charred. Hope this answers your question!

    Is that red oak ? Does the charring seal the inside ?

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes we like to use red oak. The charring is done the same as full sized barrels. Sealing the exterior bottom will stop any slight weeping through the end grain.

    Should there be any worries about how toxic the sanding sealer is?

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sanding sealer is only used on the outside bottom

    What kind of string/wire did you use for the burn? Thank you

    • @exeterwoodworks
      @exeterwoodworks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We use steel tie wire, but really any wire will do. For example even a guitar string would be effective. In anycase always stay safe
