This virtual tour walk through Popeye Village in Mellieha, Malta takes you through this fantastic filming location from the Popeye movie, which has now become a famous Malta tourist attraction and holiday destination for visitors to the island
Popeye Village Malta has grown from its days as a Film Set of the 1980 Musical Production 'Popeye' starring Robin Williams, into one of the biggest tourist attractions in Malta, filled with a number of fun activities!
'Popeye Village Malta', the Filming location of the 1980 Musical Production “Popeye”, also known as 'Popeye Village' today is one of Malta's major tourist attractions. The Popeye filming location was constructed in Anchor Bay during the last 7 months of 1979.
To construct this authentic village, tree trunk logs were brought overland from Holland, and wood shingles, used in the construction of the roof tops, were imported all the way from Canada. An international construction crew consumed eight tons of nails and two thousand gallons of paint to finish off this massive film set.
Today the whole Popeye filming location movie set still exists and has been converted into a primary tourist attraction for all young at heart.
Once you walk into this captivating, almost 40 year old village, you will be greeted by Popeye the sailor man and his friends, who will be your hosts and entertain you as you wander round.
You can enjoy a number of other attractions including the ever so popular Santa’s toy town; a unique attraction of its sort in Malta where you can get a glimpse of Santa’s elves preparing toys for the festive season, boat rides, water trampolines, sun bathing decks, beach lido, silver smith demonstrations, food outlets and much more. Children can have a blast in Malta’s largest jump around found at the upper part of the Popeye Village complex.
This Popeye movie location, also known as Sweethaven Village was built as the film set of the 1980 Musical Production ‘Popeye’ produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions.
Popeye Village film location is located in Anchor Bay Malta, just two miles from Mellieha and was constructed in 1979. The village consists of nineteen wooden buildings.
Filming for the musical production commenced on the 23rd of January, 1980 in Popeye Village Malta. Today, the whole film location and film set has been converted into a tourist attraction and is open to the public as an open-air museum and a family entertainment complex all throughout the year.

Visited this place twice it’s a great place to visit, the cast made a video with the visitors playing different parts and then we got the video to take home which I still have.
