I love the respect that you showed Shelley Duvall. She has obviously been through some difficult times, but certainly deserves not to be forgotten. My favorite role she played was Olive Oyl. She was the perfect person to play that. I think her work in that film is genius.

I 100% agree. There was a ridiculous Dr. Phill episode that was nothing but insulting to Shelley. It was supposed to have some sort of a shock value. It instead got me to never watch Dr. Phil again, not that I watched him very much, anyway. The goal of that interview was to humiliate her. Instead, he humiliated himself. Shelly is a legend. All she has to do is be in the presence of anybody that wants to humiliate and the other person loses automatically.

So glad you were able to meet and work with Shelley. I'm seriously jealous. She really is a legend and so humble as well. I've heard everything ranging from "she's nothing like King's description in the book" to "she's so annoying I was rooting for Jack to axe her." Ridiculous! Her meek exterior makes everyone underestimate her inner strength. That's what Kubrick was striving to get from Shelly and she delivered.

Shelly Duvall MADE The Shining. That movie performance was pure genius on Shelly’s part. As the child of a very abusive father, she nailed the anxiety and the uncertainty of a woman who is walking on eggshells around her unstable husband. In my opinion, Shelly deserved an Oscar for that portrayal. Every nuance and fidgety movement was the nervous energy of a woman afraid of her every move. I Love you, Shelly! You’re so beautiful, inside and out! Also loved her performance in The 4th Floor as Martha the nosy, building, manager, opposite, Juliette Lewis! ❤❤❤
In this case Kubrick being the abuser. It's unfortunate how well she did in the role because it validates the methods the director used, which are pretty unnecessary. You can get great acting without abusing the actor.
The Shining is one of my all time favorite movies! It still scares me. In my opinion, the best #1 BEST horror movie on every level. The acting was superb, and Shelley helped to make it a classic.

I don’t think a soul could deny there’s something so special about her. I can’t describe what it is but there’s just this quality she has to draw you in. Such a bright light ⭐️ happy to see so many people still adore her
It’s just warmth. True human warmth. She has an incredibly warm presence, that feels very safe and comfortable, and it’s something that Shelley always had. And something a lot of Hollywood unfortunately lacks.
I just love her. She's gotten even sweeter with age(If that's even possible). I wanted to reach in her car and hug her. What a light she is. The universe is better because of Shelly. Her voice is like home to me. It makes my heart smile to know there are souls like that in the world.

Absolutely every human being has those days where the light dims and finally goes out, but those days when Shelleys light was brightest was recorded in her movies and will last forever! Very lucky girl.
She's a national treasure in my opinion. Her fairytale theater show was so magical to me as a kid, and Popeye and The Shining are cult classics.

So glad you were able to meet and work with Shelley. I'm seriously jealous. She really is a legend and so humble as well. I will turn 40 on the 28th of this month and have watched and admired her work since I was a small child myself. I only wish I could have been there to thank her myself, as I'm sure many do. Her legacy is much more than just two movies. She was ever-present in the 70s, especially doing great work with Robert Altman.

I'm so sorry Shelly! I know this life long pai. Being diagnosed at 11 with mental health issues and now 61 8n the state of Kentucky!! In Kentucky you are treated like and animal. The health care you get is horrible. Doctors are free to say anything they feel to in inbany worthless manner. I have actually now left health care that I am very very ill because of discrimination. It never stops.The police, the E911 I wish I had a often to leave!! My life my be a lot shorter for no reason!

I've heard everything ranging from "she's nothing like King's description in the book" to "she's so annoying I was rooting for Jack to axe her." Ridiculous! Her meek exterior makes everyone underestimate her inner strength. That's what Kubrick was striving to get from Shelly and she delivered.

To me they are too different things. But I also remember people praising her meekness and believably acting terrified at that time. It must have been on some movie review shows. Her making one last film, being reminded she was loved by fans and dying peacefully in her sleep was the happy ending I needed to see for this iconic actress. We have Tim Burton because of HER giving him his big break. Which means we have the MARVEL MCU because of her (Batman 89 being a game changer). A super underrated actress who illustrates the butterfly effect beautifully.

Shelly Duvall MADE The Shining. That movie performance was pure genius on Shelly’s part. As the child of a very abusive father, she nailed the anxiety and the uncertainty of a woman who is walking on eggshells around her unstable husband. In my opinion, Shelly deserved an Oscar for that portrayal. Every nuance and fidgety movement was the nervous energy of a woman afraid of her every move. I Love you, Shelly! You’re so beautiful, inside and out! Also loved her performance in The 4th Floor as Martha the nosy, building, manager, opposite, Juliette Lewis! ❤❤❤
In this case Kubrick being the abuser. It's unfortunate how well she did in the role because it validates the methods the director used, which are pretty unnecessary. You can get great acting without abusing the actor.
The Shining is one of my all time favorite movies! It still scares me. In my opinion, the best #1 BEST horror movie on every level. The acting was superb, and Shelley helped to make it a classic.

It’s just warmth. True human warmth. She has an incredibly warm presence, that feels very safe and comfortable, and it’s something that Shelley always had. And something a lot of Hollywood unfortunately lacks.
I just love her. She's gotten even sweeter with age(If that's even possible). I wanted to reach in her car and hug her. What a light she is. The universe is better because of Shelly. Her voice is like home to me. It makes my heart smile to know there are souls like that in the world.
