You are right, these trucks have alot of rust issues, I have a 66 C-10, owned for 37 years, started restoration in 2013, finished in 2016, replaced rocker panels, both front fenders, cab corners, doors also repaired, also cab floor repair, all rust related issues, all my work was professionally done, like you say buyer's need to know what they are getting into when buying these trucks, I love my truck, it's like part of the family, great video, SUBSCRIBED.
Great vid! I plan on buying a 64-65 that’s been in a field for a bit. It’s actually still bright blue and has some patina on the roof. Good to know where it rusts as my foxbody did the same haha! Just out of curiosity, Did the 64-65 gmc 2wd trucks ever have the 283? I haven’t been able to find any good info on the engines available. Most sources just focus on the big block v6s. I’ve also heard that the Canadian models only had the stovebolt. Any info is appreciated! Thanks man!
@@willboastrum4701 I’ve only seen inline sixes and 283 as original drivetrains in these Canadain built trucks. The big block sixes are scarce here, in fact I’ve only ever seen one in the wild. Cool to see as it’s an oddity but I prefer to drop a sbc in them, so easy and a great budget friendly upgrade.
I just prep and paint them like any other panel, they typically won’t see any worse weather or conditions than they have over the last 60+ years, in fact they’ll be babied comparatively speaking.
My youngest son has a 66C10, wasn't much sheet metal that WASNT replaced on the truck ! U can tell a BIG difference in the metal quality also from then to now !NOT good, we'll see !
@@shortcutgarage nice to know. I have a shop doing the work for me. I just find the parts. Got a great deal on full running gear & frame plus other body parts. I'm nervous. I'm 8k into this already. Thanks for your help
Yep, I ended up using a small Edelbrock foam air filter, I wanted to fab one up out of an old 235 filter canister, would have looked sick and looked the part but ended up selling the truck to a subscriber

37 years! That’s great! Glad she’s as good as new!!
I just started to work on my 66 I can't wait to have it finished up
These trucks make great projects!!
I did the inner fender patches i would recommend just buy new . I had all those issues on my 64 . All fixed now
Good to know! I won’t waste my time trying to repair the bad ones
Check the bottom pockets - doors, cab rear corners, and air vents (by your left/right feet). Also check rain gutters and under floor mat. FIXABLE!
Thanks for video. Classicchevy sells many of the panels. Also classicparts sells the panels.
Kyle @carterautorestyling Is working on a 1966, now.
Also good info for us 'keep her running' guys. 451,000 miles on her, and going for 500,000! Buy from the hot dry regions of the US
Great video
Thanks David
Hey Ron, Anthony at 4-5-6 Chevy trucks sells the inner fender patch panel. I just bought a set. I’ll let you know what they look like.
That’s awesome. Thanks Scott!

I’ll reach out after work tonight!
Are you doing a t5 transmission swap on this one? That’s the video I’m waiting on. Thanks
I am putting the T5 in the panel in the coming weeks, probably 2-3 weeks out
Rust issues that we are not used to here in Texas,…I might pass on that vehicle.
I’m coming to Texas!!
Were any c60s ever made in a "suburban" or panel truck format?
Yes. In fact I brought one back from the dead on the channel! A 66 C10
Panel Truck.
Brothers truck parts sell the inner fender
Thanks Frankie!
I’m buying new fenders what should I coat them with so they don’t rust?
I just prep and paint them like any other panel, they typically won’t see any worse weather or conditions than they have over the last 60+ years, in fact they’ll be babied comparatively speaking.
Can you tell me, do the exterior body lines stay the same from 60-66? I am looking for a fleetside shortbed to complete my project. My cab is a 1965.
Sure do, only real change is 60-63 have a different style door but overall it’s the same style 60-66

Yeah these trucks rust up something fierce. But they are worth saving!
I bought a 63 frame. Will my 65 c10 fit on that frame
Yep, 63-66 is the good stuff
@@shortcutgarage do I have to change cab mounts or will it bolt up. I've had a hard time getting an answer
@@rayfinnell101 it’ll mount up. You’re good to go

Too bad there wasn't fluid film back in the day
Just my opinion, but i think those 1960 to 1966 C Series trucks were ugly. Hideous body lines and grill design, but just my opinion.
Definitely not for everyone
do you have clearance issues with the air filter hitting the brake booster? I want to add power brakes but I thought it would hit my air cleaner
