Love your presentation and accent-northern England? My husband and his family are from Bradford. I’m getting back into sewing after MANY years, enjoying new techniques and reviving my skills ❤️ keep up your good work!

I’ve made two Donny shirts, I raised the v neck by moving up the sewing (up to) dot by 1 inch. Lengthened the hem by 1 inch too. Then, I made a third one but hacked it with a long sleeved shirt pattern. Love the patterned one you’re wearing.

I will definitely use those guidelines next time! X

I love the fabric you used for all of your shirts. Another TH-camr said the Donny has a lot of ease and may be too large for petite figures who are sewing the smallest size. They recommended the Mccalls 8198. It looks very similar to the Donny. I’ve had lots of luck with sizing using the McCalls patterns. I thought I’d mention it in case anyone else it worried about the fit. Loved hearing about your experience with the pattern!

Ooh I’ll have a look at that other pattern that you mention. Yes it does have a lot of ease, maybe I should have sized down x

Hi, nice to hear a familiar accent, after living in the Midlands for over 50 years. I love the Donny Shirt and have made two and extended another two into dresses, one made from a viscose and the other from ramie, and both work really well. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when you discovered the missing collar piece! Cheers.

There were a few choice words when I discovered the pieces were missing! X

I’ve made the Donny twice now - both times I adjusted the low v neck just by raising the stitching line a little, super easy to do even after you have sewn it. With the second one the fabric was drapier and I just sewed it up from the inside with a ladder stitch x

I've just made my first Donny and love it more than I expected to. I made it in an Indian block print voile and it is just so lovely. I immediately started to cut out another. This time I am using a stunning Atelier Brunette crepe viscose which has a lovely weight and drape, in a sort of pinky-beige colour. I am sure it will look very different to my first one. The only adjustment I made is to do a narrow shoulder adjustment and on the second one I lengthened it by a smidge which I couldn't do on the first one because I didn't have enough material. I had to laugh about you only cutting out one collar and yoke x 4! I made the same mistake, only cutting out one collar and then didn't have a big enough piece to cut a second one, so I had to cut it in two pieces and seam it but because the pattern is busy you just will never notice it!

I’m so glad you love the Donny. Oh that was so funny when I missed cutting out all those pieces! It want funny at the time tho! X

Hi Natalie, loving your Donny quads. I had exactly the same result - I felt that the neck was way too low for me. I made the small to start with - it was too big in general, but wearable other than the plunge.
I then made the extra small thinking for some reason that the neckline would be higher - the fit was a little better, but the plunge was just as low - so... I put the shirt on and marked with a safety pin where I could close it to which in my case was about 1.5 inches without distorting the camp collar. once I'd done that, I sewed it up to the safety pin by hand catching a tiny pinch each side in the actual seam (I have a feeling it's called ladder stitch, but it could be mattress stitch), anyhow, that's what I did to both shirts and am really pleased with the necklines now and (to blow my own trumpet) you'd never ever know once it was pressed it sat beautifully.
So for my future Donnys I'll raise the 'dot' on the pattern piece by about 1.3 inches which I feel I can safely do without distorting the camp collar. I'll also use a 5/8 seam allowance to improve the fit as even the ex small is a bit too oversized for me and it shouldn't be really as a UK 8 I wouldn't normally be extra smalll.
You could easily try this fix and just rip it out if you don't prefer the result, but it was a perfect fix for mine because I just wouldn't have worn either otherwise.
    Hope this helps.
    Hugs from East Sussex.

Thank you so much Maria. I actually tried stitching up the opening on my very first one but because I’d top stitched that area it looks a bit strange. I might try again though x

I made a Donny shirt in Atelier Brunette Shade design in Cactus. It was a pleasure to sew, and looks lovely. I’ll definitely make it again, but a size smaller. It was my first crack at the burrito method too. It was surprisingly easy.
I like the look of your ‘mistakes’. I think I might do this deliberately next time.

      @theseasidesewist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you Helen! Yes, I might size down next time as the fit is very ‘boxy’ for my liking x

I made a grey linen Donny shirt that looks like the first one you showed. I love that you used a different fabric for the inner yoke. I may try that. I actually made mine a size down but with the suggested size sleeves. I love how it came out.

I've made 5 now! 😂 I love it. I lengthened it by 10cm. I knew as soon as I saw the pattern that it wouldn't be long enough for me. I tend to have to lengthen all my patterns .

    Hi,
    Loved your video!
I too did a crazy batch sewing with these. Made each a bit diff. Raised the front 2 in. Lengthened lower hem 3.5 in. Shortened sleeve 1.5 Added side slits 1.5 at side seam. Made back facing and did not use a back yolk. Last lengthend front facing and added buttons.( Did not.need to add any to center front as there is enough ease to overlap for buttons. Lastly I put center front on fold and made a scoup kneck and added front and back facing about 2.5 in with a small v in front.
My next is going to be a tunic with rounded hem to go just below bum and 3/4 sleeves to wear with leggings this winter.
    Love this pattern, so versital.

Hi Natalie, loving your Donny shirts 💖👌. I have bought the Donny but not yet made it... I'm procrastinating over what fabric to use and also don't tend to sew much in the summer. I usually end up sewing summer makes in the autumn and then wearing them the next year 😜... Weard I know 😁. Great idea to use a different fabric for the under collar and yolk when your fabric doesn't quite stretch 👍. It's great to see it made in different fabrics. I love a top stitch too 😁👍💖😘

Thank you Sally! Yes, I love to top stitch, a garment doesn’t quite seem finished if I don’t too stitch. I hope you get to see your Donny up soon x

Hi Natalie, I have just finished a Donny shirt as a gift sadly it was uncomfortably short so I am working out a hack so that it will not be wasted. I think that I will be lengthening any future shirts that I make. Having said that I can see a lengthened version being popular with friends and family so much so that I was considering batch sewing about 6 of them so your video appeared at the right time. Thanks for sharing 🌸

Hi Natalie. I actually like the yoke linings being in a different fabric as it adds a bit of interest that only you know about. When I make a toile I often do more of the steps than necessary just as a practice run. My favourite shirt is the one you are wearing in your video. Good luck with reaching 1,000 subscribers. I'm sure you'll make it soon. X

First time watch. Congrats on more than 1000! It would be so easy to insert an open zip into a Donny - challenge? Long sleeves for winter?

They all came out nice. For me, I would like it to be a little bit less low cut also. I would definitely make one first to check for fit as you suggested, then batch sew the rest.
