That is the way I ate Bluegill as a kid, and the way I still eat Bluegill, and I am 68years old. You are right, you don`t waste as much meat fixing them like that, and the fins are crunchy, with good taste too. Thanks for the video, and showing the right way to eat Bluegill.
My Bf and I have been catching so many blue gills lately yet we've always tossed them back, this time we've decided to take some big one's home and I'm so excited to cook them for dinner tonight! Thanks for the straightforward video ❤
You did a really nice presentation there. I have wanted to like fish my whole life and they've just been too fishy tasting for me. The way you did it looks really appetizing. I am determined to be a fish eater and you have certainly helped. Thanks a lot.
I’ve never gutted a fish before but I want to try to eat a fish I caught for once and bluegill are all I catch so this is helpful but I don’t have any breading or oil is there another way to cook it?
I'll have to try this with the small ones i catch. I try to only keep big ones but if I hook one in a way that he won't survive anyway I'll keep em no matter the size so this looks like a good way to make use of them.
Good job man. Normally we just chuck sunfish aka bluegills back in the water or use for bait. If there's young kids around the old timers like to fry the cheeks and give em to the kids
I'm a new Fisher and I catch about six fish each time I go out to my local Creek and pond and I am really enjoying catching them but I've been wanting to taste it real badly and people tell me to just throw him back but I want to try it. So I really enjoyed your video I'm going to try to keep them from now on at least four and see how it goes. All my best to you and thanks for the good well-thought-out did you take care
Nice. Have you ever pressure canned small bluegill? I tried it the first time a couple years ago and its good. You eat bones and all like salmon. I just got a weber kettle recently based largely on your videos. I live just down south of you in middle TN.
Nick I have never tried them that way but some close friends of mine have pressure canned fish before. They actually did Carp and said it was really good! I appreciate you watching!
I did not, I put them on ice until I got them home which was only a few hours. I go by the color mostly when cooking. It cooks through pretty quickly. Thanks for watching!
No the bones in bluegill won’t cook away as they are a little courser but the meat will pull away from them easily. Scoring will help with the cooking process and texture!
Hard to beat the taste! I saw some guys on TH-cam a while back catching some huge bluegill on Lake Okeechobee. Sure wish they’d get that big around where I live!
Hey Ryan I realize that I’m a year late on this, but could you post a video of you making authentic southern hush puppies? Or any other southern side dish...pimento cheese would be a good one since I like a little honey and pimento cheese on my hush puppies.

Love it, simple and easy, unlike some other stuff I’ve seen
Thank you for watching!
I just caught my first blue gill today! Your accent is awesome!
Just ate my first blue gill today 😊 Johnny’s seasoning in the flour and a little siracha mayo. I can’t wait to try more recipes!
I have never tried frying pan fish like that. That is a great way to do little ones. Thanks for the video.
I just use this method today and it was wonderful! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching Mike!
Great job my man! My son just caught his first batch of Sunfish and we're gonna have ourselves a good ol' fashion fish fry thanks to you.
Cheers!
That is awesome!
Thank you this helped me a lot. I haven’t had much experience with frying fish
Looks Amazing as always. Stay safe. God bless you and your family brother.

You can do it! Thanks!
I've wanted to try panfish for a while now. Hopefully if I catch a decent one I can try out this method
Bro this took me back to being a kid. Love a good bream fry
It’s funny cause people up here in Mass don’t normally eat BlueGills! I’m definitely going to try this!!!
when he said "feeeish" i knew it would be fantastic.
Thanks! 😆
Great video. I want to learn how to catch and clean fish
Good video. New follower. We are setting up a stock pond and I was researching how to cook blue gill. Nice.
Welcome aboard!

You’re salt of the Earth brother , enjoy watching !!
I haven’t eaten sunfish very often, but after seeing your video, I’m gonna go out and catch me some! Thanks for sharing!

Great video! My boys were catching some big ones the other day. Now I can go back and catch and cook em. God bless!
Acts 16:30-31 kjv
Love some Bluegill! Hope you catch and fry some good ones!
Man this made me hungry . I haven’t cleaned fish in years but just got back into fishing recently and really want to find some good bluegill
Bluegill make fine table fare! Hope you catch a nice mess of them!
I love y,all's videos. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!

Awesome, lll have to try this after some ice fishing.
Great video, thank you for your help. Me and my kids just learned a lot
Excellent video. You're very likable. Subscribed.
Ryan you had my attention when you said hush puppies, i miss them carolina hush puppies... yummm looks good
I have always thrown bluegill back. I’ll keep a couple this weekend and fry ‘em up! Thanks!
Hey Ryan looked good. Nothin better than fresh caught and fried fish. I soak mine in butter milk for about an hour before breading them.
Does the buttermilk add flavor or is it just for the crust?
Very helpful, thank you!
Great job Ryan. Good change up with a fish cook. Be Safe!!!
Love this channel
Thank you!
Great editing!
Loved your video, good job
Thank you!
Also I’m wondering if you can eat the spines on its back. They are sharp so do they work as toothpicks
Just tried it with some fish we caught yesterday. 🙂 Thanks so much.
Caught like 15 today, thanks man!
Awesome!!

Thank you for watching! I think you will enjoy eating bluegill! I love to eat just about any pan fish and this method is super easy!

Great tutorial
💪
Thx for upload
2 ?’s:
1. Did you “bleed” the fish after you caught it?
2. How do you know when it’s cooked enough to take it off of the pan?
Great video and thanks!
I did not, I put them on ice until I got them home which was only a few hours. I go by the color mostly when cooking. It cooks through pretty quickly. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. How long do I cook them?
Good video. Very helpful.
Thank you!
great video! u got a new subscriber:)
Man that looks soo soo good. Just one question. Can you eat bass? I've always wondered
I think smallmouth is pretty good I’ve heard great things about ir
Yes! It's actually really good!
Looks good 👍
By scoring do the little fine "hair bones" cook away like in a carp?
No the bones in bluegill won’t cook away as they are a little courser but the meat will pull away from them easily. Scoring will help with the cooking process and texture!
cool idea!! thanks
How were the fish already dead before you started descaling them? Also, how do you tell if a fish is fully cooked if you fry them in a frying pan?
Are they ok to freeze like that?
Thank you so much ❤
Looks delicious
No drama and direct
GOD BLESS YOU TOO
Awesome!
Thank you
Good sound
Thanks for watching!
If you hold it upright when taking off the head and cut from bottom fin to bone and break off with your hand you’ll get a extra bite
Love it ❤️
Looks like in Kentucky you do everything from scratch 😎
you dont season with salt or nothing?
what about the bones?
I prefer this way over filleting even if it’s a larger bluegill
Not much meat but gills are my favorite to eat.
Hard to beat the taste! I saw some guys on TH-cam a while back catching some huge bluegill on Lake Okeechobee. Sure wish they’d get that big around where I live!
I keep the head on, but basically the same way I cook these small fry.
❤
Nothing finer than a good mess of bluegill
Hey Ryan I realize that I’m a year late on this, but could you post a video of you making authentic southern hush puppies? Or any other southern side dish...pimento cheese would be a good one since I like a little honey and pimento cheese on my hush puppies.
Sounds like a great idea for a future video!!
Frito Lays need to come out with Bluegill Flavored Chips to help with restore the Economy.
that was a small mouth bass not a rock bass
"Feesh".
Pretty basic the only thing I do different is I make my own coating with 50/50 flour and corn meal then I just season to taste
mmmmmmmmm
Great video!
