- This Truck Bed Blew My Mind! | Coolest Things of Overland Expo West 2022
I am absolutely blown away by what the guys at TAV and Bowen Customs have been up to. This truck bed was absolutely incredible, thinking about building one blew my mind! The ability to customize something like this when paired with an Alucab or other camper is endless. This is the ultimate piece of truck gear!
I will look into incorporating this with my next build! (Taking donations 🤣)

I got a lot of your questions answered in a follow up video at Overland Expo PNW: th-cam.com/video/1g4gaPfM56Y/w-d-xo.html
Cool to see the Aussie trays making their way into the states
Me too! These are slightly different in the sense that its a bed replacement, but for the US I think this will be a more popular option.
Better lighting when you're showing off the interior space of your bed and compartments would be nicer for me to see what's in there? Great video and a lot of thought and engineering has gone into what you have built.
Can't wait to see 1 of these on a Gladiator. Already have the Alu Cab and this would be a great upgrade.
Gladiator is a pretty awesome platform. Combined with this and an Alucab, you would have a pretty epic rig.
finally there's a program I like to see, I didn't like the truck bed in the rear, hope to get it with a flat bed, but this is amazing. I from the years when truck bed was 10 feet long, did not like 5-6-8 foor truck bed. Most lumber is 8=10 feet. I am still looking to find a 10 foot truck bed with a cab 4 door. 🤠
I am pretty sure ram makes a 4500 or 5500 like that.
Definitely one of my favorite things I saw at the expo, much better than going with a flatbed. I can imagine a few different options for an entrance ladder.
I definitely want one. We will see how the next build unfolds.
Don't know it I agree. A flatbed gives you the option of configuring the lay-out you prefer.
I have to give this some thought and examine this bed in person to see if would work for my needs.
Are you still making these? I have a 99 Ford F350 7.3l diesel dually 4x4 .. I threw away the original bed for a utility box..and now I want a more comfortable cool build..and I stumbled on this ..
I appreciate it
Reach out to Tactical Application Vehicles. I just did the video, they do the hard work.
Walt is the man... I wish I knew half the things that guy has forgotten.
Haha yeah man your telling me! He was super cool to begin with, and then at the Expo I learned he is pretty good at hacky sack so his cool points went up even farther!
These guys are making so dope 4Runners as well!
I don't think I have seen them. I will have to check that out!
That bed is insane, love it brother!!
I drool over it every time.
Awesome construction and dedication to doing it right! 👍. Great job guys.
Oh man I can only dream of a bed like that. That's awesome always loved that concept of utilizing all that wasted bed space. Got my first truck 8mnths ago and when I was looking under the bed I noticed all tha space that could be used.
Yeah it’s filling a big hole in the market and I am very glad to see it getting filled.
That truck set up is awesome!!!
Incredible to say the least. Every time I see it at the expo I want it even more.
Such an awesome product. I want one with a smart cap on top. So much storage that is easy to get to and organized.
With a smart cap setup you could make an incredibly well organized setup! It will be pretty cool to see different builds come from these in the future.
@@IndependenceOverland my thought is to enclose all of the side of the bed storage compartments and then have a center pull out drawer in the back instead of the tailgate opening. So the top of the bed would be a complete flat surface. You could run a slide deck system for cargo on top of the bed.
Great design, love it
Just an incredible use of space!
Great set up. Looks well designed. I have a small question about the lower battery and REDARC placement. Are the cabinets sealed? Ie water sealed so if your out doing river crossings, or are you running the risk of getting water inside and shorting/ frying your electrical setup?
Thanks for sharing this build
I wondered that myself, as have a few others. I will be doing another walk around in about a month at Expo PNW and I will get some questions answered.
@@IndependenceOverland If i knew these guys before, when i was debating between jeep and 4Runner i would of went with the Toyota instead!!
Need build in some gun lockers and some fishing rod racks !
In your New Years Eve video you talked about a new vehicle build. Hmmm... anyone speculate that it's going to be a Taco after seeing how this bed system works?
Game changer !!!
Absolutely! How much overtime do I need to work to buy this thing 🤔
@@IndependenceOverland I could work 3 jobs to buy one but it would just sit BC I couldn't afford gas !!! Hell I can't even afford to get my AC unit outside replaced.......its 🔥🔥🔥
@@bunkerhill6366 man I hear you
Man thats wild!
It’s a pretty awesome build!
Nice Tyler!!!
Hey Maria! How did you stumble upon this video? You getting ready to buy an expedition rig?! 😃
Fantastic. Just got a JTR. This would be sweet rig for it but am thinking might void warranty. Not sure
I don’t think the bed would void a warranty. They can’t void a warranty for adding a topper on, this isn’t really much different since all your doing is bolting it on the frame.
I am chopping/fabricating a service bed and then ploping a tent on top.
Awesome! Fabricating your own is awesome for those who have the time and skill set.
I plan to bring my 12v Cummins build to next years PNW Overland Expo. I actually was a tig welder at OVRLND campers who you may know, great company!
I love this bed!
It’s a pretty incredible design to say the least.
Wow thats amazing
I know right?!
Great video!
Thanks! I think we are going to start seeing this pretty often!
Was there any mention about the higher center of gravity from a regular bed. I currently use my home made slide in camper on a Tacoma standard bed but sure could use the added storage of such a flatbed with side boxes over and under.
I will ask this at the next expo and get some answers!
Lovin' it👍
It’s a pretty sweet setup!
TAV have a website?
www.tavllc.com/
That's awesome... but man that going to be an expensive rig at 18K plus with the price of the Alu-Cab and the vehicle itself. For those that have the funds that is a great setup though.
Some cool builds are going to pop up for the ones that can afford it!
Well I'm sold. Now where'd I leave that lottery ticket....
Old hard drives with Bitcoin on them? 😂
Almost $18k not exactly an option for most folks.
Add the cost of a fairly optioned Alu-Cab and you're in it for ealisy over $40k closer to $50.
Lots to consider, like are you going to put this kind of money into a daily driver, do you have the funds to have a dedicated overland rig sitting at the house to be used once or twice a months if that much.
Definitely not for everyones budget. I personally am about to have a travel specific(non daily) rig not because I have a ton of money, but I’ve driven the same vehicle for 13 years.
For someone like myself, I need a midsized truck and if this can expand its usefulness I am all in. But I am also someone who camps 50-60 nights a year with goals to double or triple that number in the near future. But you are correct, this has a smaller target customer base.
@IndependenceOverland At some point ($$$), you're getting close enough to consider a Patriot trailer. Light enough to tow with a Jeep and usable with any future vehicle you decide to purchase. You can just unhitch from your daily driver with no fuss and not need a dedicated Overland vehicle.
design is great, the welding needs some serious improvement, someone needs to learn how to use their spoolgun
Hopefully the production models get a stamp of approval from you eagle eyed welders out there. I’m more of a grinder myself! 😂
That bed is awesome! Too bad the lighting sucked and the cameraman neither had a bad angle or focused on you guys talking half the time!
What a dumb ass comment

🤔
nice , but for the$17K the bed costs i think i'll buy a work truck with a utility bed....and have $10 K left over for the rest of the build................some folks get great ideas and have too much money , it seems to me
Everyone is different I suppose
1,700 or 17,000 lol
I don’t think even China could source the materials for 1700. The 17k is mostly labor I’d imagine.
Including the AT camper or just the truck bed
