    Great video! Glad to learn you had an amazing time in Uruguay. So very nice from Torres to share his experience and stuff, and that you will then pass it to other sailors. Way to go. The nav station turned out great. Congrats! Thanks for sharing the moon rise and the sunset views. Awesome. Stay safe.

    Its getting down to the really hairy part of rounding out the continent. Exciting stuff! Roxy sure takes up a lot of bed space. So does my cat. A King bed with two people squashed into about a quarter of it and the kitty taking up the rest. I hope that bottom job lasts you a while, I find that to be one of my biggest challenges, but I am a seasonal sailor. I use Petit's High copper hard paint. Three coats of that last me a long time. I would say between 3-5 seasons depending on my activity.

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Allen! Roxy seems have to have one that battle in this episode, she just waits until Curtis is really tired and has no more resistance left, then sneaks in and takes over!

    Very good, excellent, sailing to the south you will come across the Valdéz Peninsula with two gulfs of excellence for anchoring, to the north Golfo San José, to the south San Jorge with Puerto Piramides, be careful with the calculation of tides they are sizygyns and the differences may be greater at 5 meters. A PLACE where you can only hear the wind, the forty bellowers. GOOD FORTUNE AND BLESSINGS.

      Here is a link to the touch screen pc we purchased for the navigation station amzn.to/3Z4eMrI It works great with Expedition and OpenCPN and is much cheaper than a similar sized MFD. Look for a future blog post or dedicated video about this.

    Hi Sweet Ruca crew. Sorry to hear that your still dealing with sea sickness. Just wondering if you've tried ginger for a remedy. I used to get motion sickness until I tried it and never had the problem again. You can use fresh ginger root in your cooking, dried and candied or powdered it all worked for me. Love your channel. Fair winds Fletcher

    • @SailingSweetRuca
      @SailingSweetRuca  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips! I have tried ginger and while it helps it unfortunately has not 'cured' me. I drink a lot of ginger tea under way. I also remember a really great Mythbusters episode in which they tested many things for motion sickness and found ginger to work really well! Thanks for sharing and perhaps I can try and sneak some more into our food 🙂 Definitely happy it is working for you!

    • @Fletcher-li3bd

      What worked best for me is two 550 MG capsules dry ginger powder 3-4 hours before sailing.

    Looking good Sweet Ruca crew! That end-boom sheeting setup is well done on big J boats! Do you run a legit preventer line also? We started running a line from the end of the boom to a block way forward and back to the cockpit when on one long tack. Even when not needed to prevent a gybe, it keeps the boom from flopping in lumpier seas.
    Great content you two, we can't wait to hear about Horn!

    • @SailingSweetRuca

      @Sailing Sweet Ruca your go/no-go decision-making was good to see, constantly reevaluating conditions to dictate your plans. And at a certain point, you have to weigh all the factors, send it and hang on. We admire your risk-management skills and your sweet J boat.

    • @curtisjazwiecki
      @curtisjazwiecki ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@topc9858 Great choice! We have heard that the intenal boards are actually the same, and one can actually flash a NAC-3 to H5 software ;-) The bad part about the H5 is the requirement of the H5 CPU and associated costs, which is above the needs of most cruisers.

    • @topc9858
      @topc9858 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @curtisjazwiecki I did not know about that, but it makes sense - b&g can get some savings. In my current setup, I also have an old hypro40 unit that I will use with the nac3. It is the same as the b&g work unit but old. You two are at a different level on your skils, so I totally get you having the h5. I appreciate the skill level in trimming the sails, etc. maby, that is what makes your channel unique and so interesting. It is not just cruising but also serious sailing. If you can sometimes share info about your sail trim, the force in the backstayt, how you use the traveller, rodkicker, etc. it would be interesting. I think many of the cruisers are not into trimming sails, and focus is just on travelling. I live in the nordics, and we sail in the archipelago. Our winds tend to have a lot of gusts and shifts, so if you want to sail a lot and get good speed out of your boat, you need to trim your sails all the time. I think that the conditions are the reason why they build so good boats here, like swan, arcona, linjet, baltic all similar to your j-boats.

    Wow, excited for your next leg of your Journey.
    My biggest surprise is how modernized and westernized all the places you’ve been to.
    I guess I forget that I’m an old timer now, back in my days of traveling there
    wasn’t any modern grocery stores what to say of finding hardware stores and so
    many people traveling.
    I’m talking about the early to late 60’s. So much has changed. Be safe. I must have missed the “episode” you all got a new drone. Thanks for sharing your adventure

      Hi Kurt, Same here! We agree, times are changing really fast. There is a big part of us that wished we could turn back time and do this trip before cell phones existed! Luckily outside of the cities there is still lots of the "old" ways left, but the influence of things like modern "big box" stores is growing quickly. Despite the new stuff, we have really enjoyed meeting many mom & pop type small business men and women, the entrepreneurial spirit in South America is strong!

    I was down the Falklands in 82, When the ones who call it something else where firing missiles at me. I had just turn 18 on way down. I fought for my Queen and Country. I served on RFA OLNA tanker refueling the warships. Be careful down there it is the weather can change in minutes. We had no hot food but baked potatoes fore five days. Tanker is a big ship yours is not. Fair winds calm seas. Besafe.
