I am such an idiot sometimes , lol There's me thinking Yikes I hope Barry made it in one piece , I then told myself "of course he did you fool as he posted this awesome video 🤣⛵🙈 you are a true legend Barry
Ignorance is often bliss. I only ever had a 4 day forcast before i left on passages, and took what was coming. I would have thought heaving to in a steel boat would have saved you some miles in the wrong direction, but im in front of a log burner drinking a glass of wine.
Hi Barry.... no one is laughing at you, you need the safety gear thats most important. I ended up in the water the other day on an out going tide, just as well I had a life jacket on and the RNLI were at hand to pull me out. The Tay is a dangerous river.... Keep up the good work, you will get me through the winter😉😊👍
We all know how a dog goes bananas when its master comes home. It seems the sea has reacted the same with you finally sailing away from port after the hiatus. Welcome back Barry!
Ahhh that trip is like that more often than not. I really felt it when you said you have had enough. I say it over and over every time. But like a fool I just keep going back for more.
Been following you for several years Barry. Never saw you this concerned for your safety. Concerning! I know these videos are lagging a few weeks or so and hope all is well now.
For me, this is your best vid ever. Great shooting! Loved the sounds of the ropes, the sea and the waves, the howling of the wind at night... just wow! Can't wait to see the 2nd part! Keep your spirits up, Barry, and thank you so much for sharing this great adventure with us!! 👍👍
What a fabulous video Barry. You can feel the difficulty that you are in and the reliance on the elements. Can’t wait to see the next video to see where you end up. It brings up the balance and reality of world sailing. Truly grateful. Thank you. ⛵️
Great Video! And many thanks from Alabama, USA. You give this old guy inspiration. Everytime I start thinking the years for doing this have past me I watch you. YOU ROCK IT! And then the plan is on again. Cheers!
Hey Barry, so glad you made it in one piece but fully understand your frustration, discomfort and concern while sailing in such conditions. I too have sailed in similar conditions but nowhere near as ling as you endured them. Thank you for making the effort to post your grand adventure. Godspeed Barry.
That situation looks all too familiar to me. Most of my offshore cruising has been single-handed and I know what that feels like. Nights seem to last forever when it's cold. It makes me happy to know that you had to make it in safe for this video to be posted. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Hey Barry, love your videos. You need to make time when the going is good...every bit of rag up, get her moving in the direction you need to be going. Being 200 miles away from safety is better than 500. Every day you are in bad weather increases the likelihood of issues. Push her on, use speed to avoid weather. As you know, sailing to windward is work...what's worse is sailing off the wind and taking system after system. Don't get me wrong, don't run into seas you can avoid. Don't worry about the boat...the weakest thing on that boat is you! The boats can take it, we are the weak link. All the best, have at 'er!
There are three rules in storm avoidance: 1. Put the wind on the starboard quarter and keep it there. 2. Do not fall asleep. 3. Strictly adhere to rules 1 & 2. Safe sailing Barry!
@@ssjpocket Starboard is the right hand side of the boat when you're facing the bow. Wind on the starboard beam means wind directly from the right. Wind on the stern means wind coming from behind. Wind on the starboard quarter means wind coming in the middle of these two places.
@@gordonbennet1094 Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant to avoid a weather system on one hemisphere you would prefer one (ie starboard) and on the other hemisphere vice versa (ie port). Since cyclones go in opposite directions on North vs South hemisphere.
Great video. Hydrovane is the best, sailing with one since the 1980s. We use a storm sail for the Hydrovane, consisting of 1/4" plywood, cut half size of the full sail on the Hydrovane.
I'm in Tauranga, and the weather pattern has been horrible due to La Ninnha!!! No westerlies only cyclones forming on the Tasman sea bringing stormy northerlies!!! Hopefully, it sorts itself out for next year!!! Fair winds my friend...
Hi Barry, the brake on a turbine (and a solar panel for thar matter) is simply a dead short. It won't stop completely but it is enough to keep the blades in an aerodynamically (wow that's a big word) stalled condition. In that condition the blades just can't develope much power or noise. The issue is not shorting out the batteries at the same time. That would be bad. My system has a simple toggle switch that selects either the battery or the short but not both ever at the same time. A 20 amp switch should be ample. A household 3 way light switch can work if you don't have a heavy duty toggle switch.
I've noticed that predict wind uses red for blows but they aren't as rough as some of the others. The bad thing is that you would be trying to go upwind. Storms alwasy seem to suck wind into themselves. Makes it hard to get away from them.
Barry, Barry....I stood on the shore of Lake Erie and looking out at nothing but water was scary! Cannot imagine being in a boat alone in such conditions. You were the first sailing adventures I followed and so enjoy the ocean from my livingroom. But, I think it may be time for you to tie up in some port permanently. 😉
Captain Barry your an amazing sailor an helmsman.. I learn so much from you... Yeah, I agree predict when this would make me predict panic.... At the same time it's nice to know it's just difficult to not panic even in a steel Hall of metal boat you know... That's why your completely an amazing human being to me.... Thanks for sharing your life with us Barry!! Grateful for you ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Great video. I would suggest a chart of where you are and what route you have taken would be really illustrative.

If it weren't for the fact that I know you uploaded this and therefore arrived somewhere, I'd hate this video for making me so tense! Looking forward to part two and hopefully a better second half! Good video though! Jeez!
Fantastic seamanship and solo skills, absolutely life harness for the smallest jobs but more so as soon as you step into the cockpit, great skills, well done How amazing are those rollers your surfing on, kind of makeup for the easterly slog How amazing is the power of the ocean but more so being out there witnessing it all and thinking, how lucky are you? Maybe some might think that's not lucky, out there in 30+ knots gusting 40+knots but the ability to be out there is just that. Safe passage, and hope the weather turns so you can as well
Nobody who’s ever sailed would laugh at you wearing your safety gear! Good for you. Great video
What the ponytail front? Lol
Barry,Barry,Barry,Barry,be safe out there sir, fair winds and following seas
Sailing and alcohol don't mix.
I am such an idiot sometimes , lol There's me thinking Yikes I hope Barry made it in one piece , I then told myself "of course he did you fool as he posted this awesome video 🤣⛵🙈 you are a true legend Barry
Not to mention this was months and months ago
😂
Still eagerly awaiting your arrival in Florida USA. 😉
My favourite captain....
Be safe and god bless 🙌 🙏
You really bring the romance of sailing home to us land lubbers! Congratulations on having an adventure and taking us along!

My log burner will be up and running by December 🍷
Stay safe, Barry! We’re all waiting for you in Aus 😀🇦🇺
That's some nasty winds in the night.. Great capture of the conditions. Hope part 2 is better
Omg, I was on the edge of my seat through out this episode….. 😱😱
You are one, brave, soul Barry! Steady on matey...
I know that film never shows the full size of the sea but what it does show is scary enough! Glad you came through okay!⛵️💗
Barry, You're an inspiration to us all! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
Glad the onions were OK

SV delos, Zatara, and the Sailing Sea Dog. Complete inspiration… but this mutt does it all himself. Safe Winds.
Hang on, Barry. The joy of sailing!
Oh, my! We totally commiserate! We were just in those conditions ourselves but only for 2 days. You're a hardcore sailor!
Such a dog need such seas!
Wonderful
Loved this. It has been such a long time coming. Fair winds Barry, and more of the same please! 😉
Nauseating to watch couldn’t stop either. The reality of cruising! Happy to see you using your safety line’s I wouldn’t ever take them off
You are made of sterner stuff Barry!
Hang tight and laugh at it when it tries to break you.
You are in our thoughts and and have our best wishes.
What a fantastic episode 🙂
Real feelings'n'all. Love your effort. You're a CHAMP 🥰
Take care Barry, we're all cheering for you .
stay safe Barry might be an idea to have life line in the stormy weather
Barry my man you are totally insane, 😂. Surfing a steel boat ? Love it. You just be safe with the wind on your back with clear sky above!! 🙌🍻😉
We all know how a dog goes bananas when its master comes home. It seems the sea has reacted the same with you finally sailing away from port after the hiatus. Welcome back Barry!

You actually caught what its like to be in a blow On a Sailboat wow incredible good job! Stay safe and watch your fingers with the wind gen!
Thanks Barry, great as always, some scary conditions
Ahhh that trip is like that more often than not. I really felt it when you said you have had enough. I say it over and over every time. But like a fool I just keep going back for more.

PORTLAND CALLING, PORTLAND CALLING; your camera gimble, editing and adventure sailing all stepped up a notch in this one! OK, back to the video...
Yes remain in full control as we are looking forward to seeing you in Fiji!!
Been following you for several years Barry. Never saw you this concerned for your safety. Concerning! I know these videos are lagging a few weeks or so and hope all is well now.
Glad your back to sailing. Your doing great.
Barry has been spotted in Australia!
Glad you made it. Fiji great but be bloody careful of thievery there. Especially in Suva.

Ore Ley Macho! Can’t wait until I can take off alone around the world…🎉❤😂😊! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Or with my future wife and children:-)
Looks like your eating well! That's always good for high moral.
Can't say I miss those angry winds and horizontal rainy nights at all, Well Done Barry !

Now that was a great episode, thank you Barry!

This is the kind of sailing Baz and Shaddy love, innit?! 😆
Such a great insight to he realities of blue water sailing. Keep safe Barry. Love the content.

So so so very good to see you sailing adventures once again, at last…! 👍

Hi I am curious (and not aware of the english sailing terms), what is the starboard quarter?
@@ssjpocket Starboard is the right hand side of the boat when you're facing the bow. Wind on the starboard beam means wind directly from the right. Wind on the stern means wind coming from behind. Wind on the starboard quarter means wind coming in the middle of these two places.
I guess starboard vs port would depend on whether one is sailing in the southern vs northern hemisphere?
@@Eldering No sir. Starboard is the right hand side of the boat when you're on it, facing forward. It's irrelevant which way the boat is facing.

Balls of steel Barry. Keep going mate!
I love sailing very much. I have sailed on Lake Michigan, and in some lakes in Maine. This looks very challenging. Thank you for sharing.
You sir are a brave man.
Barry, that was stunning. Sorry that which is your anxiety is the source of my entertainment.
can't say enough good about this one, great selection of music, excellent shots setting the scene, just great story telling. Love it!

Barry, I walk like that and I'm on solid ground... Old...
Stay safe, Barry. I want to keep watching for a long time to come!
My favorite channel on youtube! Keep on keepin' on!
Wow. What an episode. Travel safe
Finally been watching you for years from Fiji 😁
Doing well Bazza, stay strong :) the waves are huge
Holy crap! Be safe brother.
Good to see you made it safely Barry look forward to next episode
Well done Barry, about to splash my first yacht next week. Only a 20 footer. Hope to see you in Western Australia. 👍🏻
Now would be a good time to have another crew member. I imagine you're about wore out. Blessings to you. Thank you for the video.
Wow i wish I didn't get violently sea sick I would love to do some sailing like Barry.
Another cliffhanger of a voyage for Shaddy: "The Curse of the Seadog" strikes again!
p.s.,Stay safe, Barry.

Thank you for the upload Barry, that was a good one. Im waiting for the next one.
Should always trail a line in the water with a small float at the end on long passages in case you fall in gives you something to grab and hold on to
Then what?
@@reallynotyourbusiness1659 pull yourself along the line and back to the boat then climb aboard using your boarding ladder
Oh hey Barry!!! One heck of a crazy sail to Fiji! Thanks for sharing!

Good on ya Barry , i hope you have better weather very soon so you can get to Fiji ASAP :-)
Weather's certainly changed over the last few years.
This took me back to ‘Dragon for Sale’ - one of your best performances 😉

Barry you should heave too (hove to) . Take a day or two to rest and all will be well.
Yes, take a break and heave to rather than sail away from your destination.
How weather gets better soon for you, please be safe!!

Great job, Barry - keep on hanging on! What a trip that must have been!!
I love this channel Barry. The three of you do such a good job you yourself and you
Keep moving on, good to see you at sea again!
I hope you take a cruise towards Agadir, Morocco
