One thing maybe worth doing is also to check the drains are clear. Must admit I thought the vents drained into the plenum where the heater motor is and there's a drain from there to under the car. Obviously though the rust holes need to be dealt with.

Is it enough to "patch" the hole such that water can't fall into the vehicle, or will it then just pool up higher? Lacking the proper terminology (still learning!) but if you patch the hole, where you took over the cover with the 3 plastic screws, will the water build up in there?
Mike's mercs and other cars has a great video regarding drain holes on the R107. I think there should be 2 drain holes in each air intake, the ones that run down inside the inside of the wing and out through the sills might well be blocked on yours. Good luck with the project, beautiful car.
Still waiting for Charlie Gut to make a cameo appearance, if he does tell him to grow up and throw a lawn mower at him! Tell him that’s from Paulie! 😂😂😂
Luckily my SL has had this repair done before I bought it. The cost was huge (circa £5k in 2009)…
Watching with interest.
Yes its going to be a challenge, hoping that if i am patient and careful i might just be able to do it. Thanks for watching

Yes, i did contemplate that but yes it does appear it would just create a bigger pond and eventually be worse. Thanks for watching
