The Bourbon Red Turkey is a rare breed of the heritage turkey and was admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1909. Developed in Pennsylvania and taken to Kentucky with the long rifle, this breed later was given the name Bourbon Red from its popularity from Bourbon County, Kentucky. The Bourbon Red turkey is another of the turkeys with a beautiful color pattern and makes a good farm and backyard turkey.

I love poultry, raised them all my life, love that Cackle Hatchery gives families an opportunity to raise their own too, but PLEASE stop overcrowding and have proper male/female ratios. In the majority of your breeder flocks, across all species, there are either too many birds in general or too many males and the females are all beat up. It only improves your reputation if you make these two simple changes. There’ll be less money but more respect gained! Again, I love poultry and seeing beautiful chicks grow up into even more beautiful adults, but we still have a responsibility to make sure it’s done humanely as well 🦃 ❤️
