Got to give Cali credit for brightening up what is already one of the very best channels on TH-cam. I sweat that dog has a wonderful non-verbal connection with Shawn. I'm sure Cali is a welcome companion as you build in isolation but at times she works in opposition to what you are trying to achieve. As quickly as you can shovel soil and sand into an excavation she is always there to try to undo your progress. It's funny to watch and of course no harm is meant by her play. My off-grid cabin is a hunt camp near Madoc ON and was built with more conventional materials and methods but there certainly are parallels to your experience. ATV's dragging materials 7 kms from the closest road, building bridges, cutting trails, hoisting large pieces (in my case, trusses) into place where there are no front end loaders to be found, deep into the Canadian Shield. I very much enjoy your videos which allow me to feel my camp from afar as I watch you toil. Great work Shawn! I wish I had some of that deep sandy soil that you have. Mine is largely on thin soil or solid rock.
14:12 *absolutely gorgeous* . 30 seconds of nature I have now played several times over... I can just watch those few images forever. The golden sunlight through the wet grasses, the beautiful creek that is surrounded by light and mist... The whole atmosphere just makes me happy and relaxed, watching that. I would love a video of that, footage of like minutes at a time. Really. For real. It is so beautiful and peaceful. And I also loved the hybrid vid.

This was the first of your channels I found, but I don't mind the talking. I just enjoy seeing the buildings you make come into being. Very satisfying. I also wanted to compliment you on your understanding of forest management. I'm a professional forester (as if you couldn't tell from the name) and work with the public a lot, trying to instill an understanding of sustainability and silviculture, at least enough so they will do the right thing on their land, to the landowners I work with. Listening to you speak, I could have sworn you were also a natural resource professional, but was really surprised when you said you'd been in the building trade. Though I haven't watched all your videos, you have relayed absolutely correct information about forest management in all of them that I have watched. Whether you learned on the job, or had a really great forester to teach you, bravo! You are definitely doing it right. And, of course, Cali is a delight too. Our golden is called Sandy and she sends greetings as well.
I always watch though I don't always get to comment (busy with my own channel), I so enjoy watching all your updates. Something I really like about the new site, I can Map it in my mind quite easy. At the other cabin it took until several more building projects before I had a good mental map of the homestead....
Wow, what a process, log by log, row by row. This is one painstaking process, the work involved just to get the logs to the build site is unbeiliveable in itself. I loved the explanation of how you pick each log for size so you can build level as you go up. This is utube at it`s finest for me, wow those logs are massive you have to move alone, be carefull and take care. I love this channel, this build just facinates me. I am watching every step of the way. We thank you for sharing it with us, who does this all by themselves, just incredible.

I thought since you got the sawmill, and since you built the shop from square logs, you would build the cabin from square logs. But your are a smart guy, and you will do a great job with the round logs as you did on the last cabin. Blessings and good building. I enjoy the videos.

This was the first of your channels I found, but I don't mind the talking. I just enjoy seeing the buildings you make come into being. Very satisfying. I also wanted to compliment you on your understanding of forest management. I'm a professional forester (as if you couldn't tell from the name) and work with the public a lot, trying to instill an understanding of sustainability and silviculture, at least enough so they will do the right thing on their land, to the landowners I work with. Listening to you speak, I could have sworn you were also a natural resource professional, but was really surprised when you said you'd been in the building trade. Though I haven't watched all your videos, you have relayed absolutely correct information about forest management in all of them that I have watched. Whether you learned on the job, or had a really great forester to teach you, bravo! You are definitely doing it right.
And, of course, Cali is a delight too. Our golden is called Sandy and she sends greetings as well.
I take my hat off to you. So much work. Just getting a cord of wood was enough for me.
I always watch though I don't always get to comment (busy with my own channel), I so enjoy watching all your updates. I enjoyed the explanation of your new design and challenges of weight and logs' size . I think your talking from time to time on this channel, along with demonstration of actual building, clips of natural beauty, food prep in the wild and even your time off enjoying it all is a really, really nice balance. I feel more welcome when you address us. And since, I'm building on my own homestead, it's nice to have a verbal tip or two when the image might not fully convey the process or difficulties. This build a little more difficult than the previous u had the benefit of preassemble at your previous home. Lots work ahead but it'll be much improved and bigger than the last. Something I really like about the new site, I can Map it in my mind quite easy. At the other cabin it took until several more building projects before I had a good mental map of the homestead....

Wow, what a process, log by log, row by row. This is one painstaking process, the work involved just to get the logs to the build site is unbeiliveable in itself. I loved the explanation of how you pick each log for size so you can build level as you go up. This is utube at it`s finest for me, wow those logs are massive you have to move alone, be carefull and take care. I love this channel, this build just facinates me. I am watching every step of the way. We thank you for sharing it with us, who does this all by themselves, just incredible.
