Hey there Shawn, I love your channel, it’s calm it’s fun, it’s historic! I love your little surprises in every video. You tell amazing story’s and the best part, yo do your own thing, you don’t copy you find something and you do it! That’s what I like! And the animals are incredible there so cool lol! Saw yo hurt your eye, i feel your pain. I fell on a very hard tire on a industrial chipper. And hurt badly, hurt my leg, and is better. Anyways I love your channel, keep up the unbelievable work!
I came by Your videos by accident, I am so addicted, can hardy get my day started for checking to see what your doing. Love it, have learned at from you.
That is the reason that you should never work alone when you are far from society. Been there and done that, broke ribs, had my foot stuck under a tractor blade and tore my shoulder. All times when I thought I would be fine. And no one around to call on. Everytime you think you are invincible a mean little angel slaps you upside the head, and whispers in your ear "hey asshole how'd that feel!".
@@gdismine01 You can wear " PET" around your neck. When you squeeze the PET, it will call the police and ambulance. A client told me it happened to her siser who lived way out in a farm who have tripped and fell down on the ground. She had to wait outside all day until her husband came home from work.
Only Shawn could build a shelter that looks like it has been in the woods for 50 years. Of course Cali steels the show with an outstanding dog pose under the shelter...beautiful.
Callie's immediate attention to you and her persistence in staying close is impressive. This breed is known for its caring and concern for its human companions, and now I see why.
Any breed will be like this if they are close to their people, I have a pity that won’t leave my husband’s side if he’s having a bad day, he has cancer.
We had a Rottweiler Lady once and she was exactly the same, loving and caring. I had edema in my feet once and she used to come and lick them until it got better after a few days
My husband and I built onto our 1767 hand hewn log house back when we were young. I was pregnant five times over those 14 years it took us to construct the three level home with our own hands, connecting it to the old homestead. I had an old 3x5 booklet only about 10 pages, explaining how to build a fireplace and hearth. We hand hewed a log for the hearth and proceeded to build the fireplace. It turned out so incredibly perfect, it's to date, the best drawing fireplace we've ever used anywhere in the US. We know first hand what backbreaking work it is to live on the land. To live like a pioneer. To get injured and still continue working because there's no choice. Everything about your way of living is different than how the rest of the way America lives today. I know, we know. 🙂👍 The one thing I think about each time your filming is, where is your wife? My husband and I have amazing memories working together on our home. I didn't know a thing about building, he taught me all along the way, and he showed me how to do the masonry, so I could work with him starting from the ground up. It was blood sweat and tears. We made memories that are powerful in our union together even these 37 years later! Yes, in all kinds of weather, over 14 years from 1986-2000. Also, need to mention, my husband had a full-time job, and traveled extensively during those years in his career as an engineer. So we could only work nights and weekends when he was home, thus 14 years it took to complete a home from the ground up. Three floors. Basement floor, first, and second floors, the roof, the fireplace. Then finishing the interior of the whole structure ground up. I was always with him. If not working side by side as his partner in labor, ( helping with all the masonry work, helping lifting, mixing mortar, helping with framing windows, etc.. etc...) If I wasn't there with him doing the Hands-On work then I was at least making sure that I had food for him and drink. And I am truly amazed that you are doing this for your wife and daughters and yet your wife is not there with you enjoying this journey being a part of it rejoicing with you and suffering with you and walking hand in hand together through this. I certainly am not meaning to sound sarcastic I'm only truly just amazed that she's not there with you, even if she feels she can't help do a thing. I just can't imagine my husband building our home without me at least standing with him in support and giving nourishment and drink. I do hope you'll say she is with you there a lot, but just not on film. 👍
First, if you ever hurt yourself again the first thing you should do when you are able is go to the stream and wet a rag. Swelling needs to be your first priority. This is coming from a nurse married to a doctor. Thank goodness you are all right. Next I just have to say the end of the video almost brought me to tears. It was so beautiful and calm I know why you are doing what you do. Keep on going, I love watching you!
Ouch! My first thought was, put ice on it. My second thought was ,where will he get ice?! Dogs are so tuned in to humans feelings. You and Callie make a great team.
I love Cali!!! She’s so loyal and such a good girl. Shawn you are so fortunate and blessed to be living in such breathtaking surroundings. With all of God’s creatures living there too. The shots of the bear eating the berries, the mountain goats, and the accompanying music was like therapy for me. So calming and beautiful. Thank you for sharing all of this with us. 🧡
Shawn, don’t beat yourself up over your eye accident. I hope you get it looked after, accidents happen when you least expect them my friend! You are truly a man of the land my Canadian brother. Your videos bring so much into our lives, the scenery, the wildlife, Callie, and your knowledge of building and surviving! Take care of yourself and be safe out there!
Having watched your work for a few years now. I can attest you're very careful, prudent and meticulous. But there were subtle signs of stress in your last videos, like your distraction with the crows in last video, or the tools falling from their place whe you move things, that became evident now with this accident. Not stupid but worn-out. I know you won't stop working or take a rest, but I'm happy you took some time out to appreciate and share the beauty of your surroundings. To see Cali trying to comfort you when in pain was moving. Take care!
The bear going to town on the berries was a joy. Something I'm sure I'd never get to see if it weren't for your videography, Mr. James. Thank you. Love the kitchen renovation! Hope everything turns out okay with your eye. Don't be too hard on yourself , accidents happen even when you are employing safety measures. It's just part of life. I'm really excited to see the walls going up on the cabin. Stay well, be safe, and best regards to all.
Here Here ... life happens ... part of life is accidents... as mother was want to say ..."what doesn't kill you makes you stronger". Hope the eye pain has diminished as I know from experience 2yrs ago , how insanely painful the eye can be. Mine has healed, I pray yours has too.
The bear chowing down on the berries reminds me of my Mum. When she a young she went out to a raspberry patch near her home to pick a few berries for a pie. As she was picking she noticed the family dog had followed her out to the berry patch. Anyway after picking enough for her pie (and the bunch she ate while picking) she headed home...got there and there was the dog...tied to its doghouse. lol
I truly hope you're okay. And I have enjoyed your videos for a long long time. And that's truly a good doggy you got. You can see the love and caring she has for you.
I, along with all of us, am so sorry to see you injured! Hopefully this will only result in a black eye for you, but as mentioned in other posts here, a detached retina is of concern. I’ve had two of them, one in each eye, and laser surgery is very necessary for full repair. I sincerely hope you’ve seen an eye specialist to be sure your inner eye isn’t damaged. And kudos to Cali for her immediate concern and attempts at comforting you; she loves you so and that’s very evident. What an exceptionally special dog she is! I’d also like to comment that in this video you’ve outdone yourself with your spectacular footage of wildlife and the surrounding area you’re so fortunate to call home. Goodness, Shawn ….you’re at the point in your cinematic evolving that you could go toe-to-toe with Spielberg himself in the wild beauty you share with the rest of us. Thank you so much for all of this wonderful footage!
I’m 70 and I have hurt myself many times, almost always when I was very tired… Take good care Shawn! 🌀💚🌀Your family (including Cali) and many of us out here in TH-cam land are all rooting for you…
My mother recently passed away, she was 88, in July this year…she used to really enjoy your Show…& sometimes all day, & got me into it too, I was amazed by that…she came from France, to Canada over 60year ago, & she use to say how warm-hearted the people were in T.O. , where she worked, 60 year ago …ok The Times have changed…sometimes wish we cud go back to way things were in Canada…anyways appreciate you & your family & the Dog, for enriching & bringing enjoyment for Mother’s last years…I think she really liked you too…how you did The Show, & so on..hope your eye gets better…What a Great idea…having a good time doing what you like to do , & making some returns on that, is got to pure GENIUS…I can’t think of a better Job to go to..👍⛄️🐢🌲🦉
Please take all the necessary precautions while building your cabin. You are like an extended family to us and when you hurt, we hurt and wish we could help you. Prayers your eye is not permanently damaged. Thanks for continuing to share your life with us. God bless you and Cali.
You should think about an apprentice/laborer. Someone to help out while you teach them invaluable lessons of self sufficiency. We aren't getting any younger. Be safe!
I always worry about you out there alone, Shawn. You need a radio satellite 'phone; safety boots; safety goggles that wrap around the sides and a hard hat. I hope by now you've been to A&E to have your eye checked? A detached retina isn't always apparent to the injured person, you know. Please take more care! xx
@counselorChick I think, for Shawn, it would not help him emotionally. Family helping or close friends now and then but he needs to work in a solitary way.
I got tears in my eyes twice during this video. Once seeing Cali comfort you, and once while you were out on your walk. That always speaks to me, as if you are reminding us "This Is Why." I so get it. What beautiful country! Rugged, dangerous, gorgeous and free. It does not need us at all, yet we cannot live without it. Thank you, Mr. James - and go get some new glasses! I will look forward to the next time, you can count on that.
that precious dog knows when you are hurt and is stopping everything to be with you. She senses when you are in pain/suffering. Such good companions. 💖🐕💖
This episode had everything. Shelter, walls on cabin, bear eating berries, extension ladder balanced precariously on a thin wire over open space, drama, cinematic beauty, inclement weather and a loving and comforting dog. I hope your eye is ok. Scary.
Cali loves you so much Shawn ! She even supervised the rest of your day closely. She is the best good girl . As humans we truly don’t ever know the pure dedication of our K9 companion until we are injured. I truly hope that your eye is okay Shawn! And I am sure you will be getting better safety glasses soon! Remember hot compress then cold compress
Back in the 80's I bought 4 acres of land up in Nipissing Village a build an octagon house so I enjoy watching you build your log house. I pray that God will help you, strengthen you and heal you of your injury that you may continue your work. God bless.
It was so touching watching Callie come to you after your injury, what an amazing loving animal. I've been torn lately on bringing a dog back into my home since my dear Chocolate Lab passed away in January of this year. I love Labs so much but I've decided to get a Golden Retriever early next year. I hope your eye isn't damaged Shawn, please keep us abreast of how it's healing. I know you're heard it but please wear safety glasses. Take care Shawn.
Prayers for a speedy healing. My Dad used to say, as we grew up in the bush, off grid. "remember to move deliberately and a little slower than usual when your on your own, as there are no emergency facilities nearby" Godspeed Shawn
I've bitten my tongue so many times watching you without safety glasses, and have outright begged that young Swedish boy who built a cabin to wear them. Watching those chips fly brings home how essential it is to be safe. I'm so sorry this happened and hope you make a full recovery. I worry about you all the time doing so much labor alone. Be well and safe, Shawn.
I've been thinking of this today after your injury: I'm almost the same age as you and I've begun to notice I tucker out a little faster than I did ten years ago. I'm thinking if you get in a bind with some of those heavier logs you shouldn't hesitate to call a helpful neighbor. One bad back twist could dampen the next 30 years of enjoyment!
30 years? I wish. I've been battling 40, and it's not a bit better. You don't get away with spinal injuries... that's NERVE pain. Your brain goes into Red Alert, and nothing you can do to shut it up. You know why torture is used on prisoners? Because it works. Back pain remains long after you give up the launch codes. It's like a vaccine on a cootie. 😬 Jussed sayin'. 😶🔫
Let's not compare ages by the number of injuries please, every person is unique, and Shawn is well seasoned for this work. I do agree with your comment in that the body does show its age, but not because we should restrict ourselves in physical work, but because it's a reminder to work mindfully, and foremost taking care of sufficient rest, relaxation. I've got a hunch that the labour of late has been very tough, working on those logs. I also suggest asking for assistance when heavy lifting is involved, be it by Shawn's muscles or by that device that lifts the logs by means of a chain.
@@devonseamoor *Quantity of life* is a curse once the *Quality of life* becomes painful and tedious. The uninjured have no clue. They're tough and resilient, manly men, bulldozers in their own might, they know best, UNTIL they suddenly find themselves on the other side of the equation. Then it's too late, and they'll live with regrets, and disabilities for the rest of their life. Been there. Done that. 😶
@@devonseamoor I said it was me, been there done that. Me and millions more like me. They didn't believe something would happen to them either, which i also stated earlier. Have a great life. I hope you never discover, and never have to deal with what i do everyday. Sincerely.
Well, I did all the same work as Shawn for 55 years. I only wore safety glasses when I used power grinders or some power tools and welding. I never wore safety glasses using hand tools . Just me .
@@debt4717 I think a face shield would be a more appropriate fit for what you're describing. It will not only keep things out of your eyes but also from sticking in your face and will keep liquids from splashing on your face possible getting in your eyes too. Some of the things I do with metal work I sometimes wear both safety glasses and a face shield. 👍
@@ralphp3057 You we’re lucky Ralph. I used to work on a manufacturing floor where we used acids to clean some of the equipment. I was walking past someone who was working with the acid and they spilled it, and splashed it on me. I ran to the shower and my skin wasn’t burned. I thought my eyes weren’t even involved, but later I found several small places in my safety glasses that were melted about halfway through. The glasses saved my vision that day🐝🤗❤️
At what minute on here is the accident that caused an eye injury? I am in a hurry this a.m. and want to see what happened to Shawn. If not I will have to watch later
Seeing Callie being there for you in her role as best friend and nurse got me right in the feels. That is one of the plethora of reasons that I miss having a dog in my life. I am glad your injury was not worse Shawn. We all get carried away in the moment and forget to have safety as a priority in our minds from time to time. All's well that ends well. 40:47. That's Canada right there. I am from the Prairies, but I know what it is like being in places like that in person. That is one of the reasons I miss Canada so much.
Got to take care of your eyes, hands and feet. Hopefully there is no damage and the worst that happened was a black eye and a lesson. It is a good reminder that safety is important and even things we have done a thousand times can have a different outcome. Stay safe. Hopeful for a full recovery, and if it starts to get cloudy or really painful get to the optometrist.
It is amazing how Cali knew Shawn was hurt and sat right there with him. At one point laid her head over on Shawn to comfort him. Pets are the greatest comfort of all. What a companion!!!
It amazing how fast an accident can happen. Some are a cheap lesson and some are not. My dad own and operated a welding and blacksmith shop and I was there the day he lost his right eye. He had his glasses on his forehead when a chunk of plowshear we were repairing broke off and knocked it out. Changed his life. Glad your accident was not as bad! Great content and I enjoy your videos. Stay safe I cannot wait to see the finished project.
I love the way Callie came to love and cosset you, she knew you were hurt. Mistakes can happen and this teaches us that is why one wears safety goggles, thank you for making us pay attention to safety as accidents can happen so quickly. Hope it's all good with the eye. Take is easy and hope your eye is ok. Have a great day further if you can.
Shawn, you are tough as nails. You get smacked in the eye with flying wood, and then keep on building. I would have gone to the eye doctor. Also loved the beautiful mountains, bear and goats scenery at the end. Almost brought a tear thinking how precious wildlife (all life) is and what a special place this world is in the universe.
Shawn, I think God was in a good mood when he created the place you are building your cabin!! The scenery is just breathtaking! Sorry bout your injury, hope no lasting damage was done. Stay healthy and thanks for sharing your life with us.
Sorry to hear of your eye injury. Husband has been in construction all his life. Always wore safety glasses on the job. But working around the house is a different story. Took a minor eye injury to convince him to wear safety glasses while working around the house. Two years ago I finally convinced him to purchase prescription safety glasses from our eye doctor. Now he wears those religiously. We requested the prescription safety glasses have the lenses which darken in the sun. Praying your eye injury is minor and heals quickly. One another note, enjoying all of your videos.
Many spend a lifetime building someone's else's dream. You have chosen and determined to build your own in the place you have desired. Good for you. May you fulfill it and enjoy the journey as you overcome the difficulties and hardship. You will succeed. Beautiful scenery and video production. Thanks for sharing.
Observing God's beautiful creation is breath taking! So sorry about your accident. Pray no lingering effects. You have a precious and faithful friend in Cali! Stay safe friend!
I'm 70 now and getting older involves more pain. Shawn be good to your self and stretch and exercise for the coming years and feel better. I love the inclined to help back pain. Thanks and you still have the cutest you tube dog.
Don't hurt yourself any more, Shawn!!! Oh my! You are so courageous! So capable! What a hero for all of us in these crazy times! We need you! Take care of yourself! By the way, I too am praying for you and your family! God is on your side!!
I know all us outdoor folks like being able to say I did it myself by hand but this may be a case of accepting the fact that this is a much more complicated and labor intensive build than some of your others. It may be time to get a work party together for a few weekends to get some help and take some of the strain off of you. Time is getting short for good weather and having at least a roof over your head will allow you to keep working through out the winter months. Stay safe out there!
The beauty of that area is breathtaking. Now...the Grandmother in me is coming out....Shawn James.....you better wear some safety glasses! (noticed I used both names.) My Grandma fussed at me with both names when I was in trouble. LOL. But please wear safety gear. A bone will heal. You can't replace those eyes.
Our animals know when we need comfort. I'm sorry you got hit like that. I hold my breath when I see you do dangerous things. Like climbing up a ladder leaned against a wire. That's why I pray for you!!! Thank you for the beautiful scenery tho! You are truly blessed Shawn!
I'm so glad Callie was there for you. It's amazing how intuitive they actually are. So glad that you didn't get hurt worse than you did being alone out there by yourself doing all that you are doing... Take care hope all is ok..
i mean , those images of the lake and the mountains , and the river , the rocks , the forest , is just breath taking , and so relaxing at the same time , it's priceless , you're lucky to live the experience live. Sorry for the accident to your eye, hope things turns out to be a minor injury
What a heart warming expression of devotion from Callie. My husband had significant injuries from a target shooting incident when a faulty slide exploded and flew back at his face (eye). Not sure appropriate gear (glasses) would have protected him from all the injuries, but he has not ventured out to practice again. 2 years and 7 surgeries later his vision is still a question mark. Take precautions, please. Fortunately he was with friends who got him to the hospital. Your upbeat ending leads me to hope things are well with your vision.
Thank you so much for taking each of us from the chaos of the world to the quiet peace of nature in your world. You truly have found what all of us seek.
I would only echo the concern of your many subscribers: pray that there will be no long lasting effect on your eye, and hope that you will be more careful in the future. What would you do without Cali?! She is so special to watch out for you and give you comfort. Give Cali a BIG SMOOCH from Mike & Ronnie. GOD BLESS
I was thinking about sending you one of my new pair of my clear safety glasses but I'm pretty sure you'll be flooded with them soon, so one more pair won't make a difference. =)=)=) As a safety inspector I have an issue with very "creative and acrobatic" way of using your ladder. Remember that you are there alone and far from help. More and more I hear your followers saying, "get some help " . I'm pretty sure there is a lot of young people willing to help in exchange for valuable lessons. And for crying out loud, start using power tools, you not getting any younger and all this unnecessarily hard work is taking toll on your body. You prove yourself over all those years that you can build anything just with your pocket knife, we all know that and we believe in you. Saying this because I care. Big fan.
Really sorry about your accident Shawn and immediately prayed for you my friend. Wish my hubby and I were there to help you. Please take care and you do what you can in a day but most important get rest and don’t be hard on yourself you do more than anyone I have ever known in my 70 living years. God Bless you and your family that includes Callie too💙🙏
Makes me smile to see Cali romping in the Rockies! They do permeate one's heart and soul. Hope your eye is OK. We all take chances. Thanks for everything...👍😎🐾🇨🇦🐻🌲🔥
Hi Shawn, I hope you will recover quickly and completely from that hit. Beside that, Cali's reaction to the accident is so heart warnimg! You two are an awesome team! Wish you all the best! Michael
What an amazing cooking shelter, glad you didn’t get hurt worse and Callie came to make sure you were ok. always love the beautiful wilderness shots. Be careful out there working alone🇨🇦
Hope you're well, Shawn! I know the feeling. I'm a contractor and always tend to take the protective glasses off either because of the shaded ones or the clear ones fog up as I'm working. How many times things have gone in my eye, but nothing as big as that chunk of wood. Be well, Shawn. Based on the rest of the vid, I'm assuming you are ok! And the vid of that bear eating the berries was amazing!
My heart is pulling at me for your injured eye and for the beauty of the mountains, running water and wildlife you share with us. Accidents never come at a good time. What you are doing alone is HUGE and with that you push limits. The nature shots are so inspiring and bring into our various homes how inspiring this planet really is. That bear will sleep in peace during the chilling winter and I hope you will too - with intelligent and faithful Cali nearby. Mend completely and quickly. Please keep us updated on the eye.
Please be careful... I've grown to admire you and I couldn't imagine if something happened to you up there alone. I want to watch you for a long time to come. I've learned a lot from you.
Hello Shawn, hope it's all good with the eye. Mistakes happen and props to you for sharing this and help others to pay attention to safety googles at work. Cheers mate!
Shawn, very beautiful part of Canada! You were so lucky to see all those mountains and rivers and streams. Just take care of yourself be careful out there. We want to see you complete this cabin exclamation and to continue to see Callie being the beautiful dog that she is.
I have watched your videos for quite some time now but this has got to be the best scenery that you have shown. I always dreamed of doing something like this but because of a stem cell transplant that i went through about 5 years ago, it's not looking like I will get to. your videos give me a taste of it. thank you, thank you, thank you. I pray for much safety and protection as you continue this adventure. Blessings to you mu friend.
Oh, ouch, Mr James, I'm so sorry that happened! I'm glad Cali was there to comfort you. If you see any flashing or blobs in your eye, I'm sure you would see an ophthalmologist immediately. Do not wait if this starts, as your retina could be detached from a blow to the eye like that. It will get worse without treatment. In my case, they shot a bubble of gas into the middle of my eye to hold the retina back against the back of the eye. I had to hold my head parallel with the floor, and lie face down, etc, for 24 hours. I can see OK out of that eye now, but there is a small area right in the center that is a bit blurry where damage happened even though I went to the doctor right away. But this probably won't happen to you, just be aware. Best take a little break, my friend, thinking of you. Hang loose, ya big moose, and lil moose, too.
So sorry that you injured your eye and wishing you a speedy recovery. I cringe when I watch you work with heavy logs, and can't help but think of the hiker who had to cut off his own hand after it was trapped under a rock years ago. I am sure that you are careful as you work with big timbers, chopping wood, etc., but take extra care because you are alone! Looking forward to the progress of your new homestead.
Sorry about your eye injury … prayers no serious damage. Your partner was so concerned, definitely loves you, Cali is truly special. Would love to know the ‘magic’ behind the ladder scene, that was awesome, and a little scary watching it. I always enjoy the nature parts of your videos. That bear footage was really nice to see! Mountain Goats too!
I pray for you each time I come to visit your world... The scenes are breathtaking and the one that you standing by the water and looking out over at the mountains gave me a piece I just can't put into words I've never seen anything like that but one day if I get blessed I would love to come and see it I pray for your health and safety for you and my favorite dog now that God cover you both and keep you safe and sound it's amazing the things that you can do with your hands and your mind makes an older man dream of how I wish I could change my life and experience the wilderness more God bless you Shawn
Watching you Shawn as I sit on my lazy boy chair remembering my active time's gives me a fuzzy feeling mate, but then again my new train set is coming along slowing, only able to do no more than one hours activities per day, thankfully for the TH-cam, received my second covid jab earlier so hopefully be able to travel around the district, I have a similar lean-to for cooking in my back yard and is extremely important especially when wet or very hot, all the best mate keep safe. ☺🐶.
You are truly an amazing man. I have watched you for many years. I began when you built the last place. Every time I watched a video I would say out loud wow this guy is amazing. He can do anything and he does it well. I know you know the mistake you made and you got away with it. Please heed this warning. Your skill set offers many people many things when we watch your videos. I just love Cali
Look on the bright side ..you won’t make that mistake a second time. I see many deliveries of safety glasses coming your way, haha. Thanks for the awesome episode Shaun
I was thinking the same thing. I see lots of safety glasses and a few hardhats coming his way. If they don't show up in next weeks video then they will be in the one after that.
@@judyjudyjudy1841 I like seeing pictures of nature's top predator doing things that are very un-predatory. I am not a hunter at all but do run into bears once in a while when I fish.
That is one beautiful ,fall meadow! The colors are stunning!I hope, you recover from your insured ,eye! You have a whole lot going on for yourself and family! With the winter pressing....just , please be careful with your work.I , wish you the best with your cabin! You have given me, years of enjoyment , while you accomplished so, much! Thanks! Stay , safe and warm!👍
Thank you so much for sharing what you are doing! I've been watching since way back in the beginning. I admire your tenacity and patient hard work. Thank you for showing the bears 🐻🐻eating the berries...that really made me smile 😁 That's beautiful country you have there. I'm happy for you. I am in southern Montana outside of Yellowstone Nat'l. Park and it is beautiful here too. I appreciate the peace and quiet you have there. Thanks for sharing, Shawn! Hope your eye is ok. 👁
Just scanning the comments; there's a lot of Love and Best Wishes for your eye Sir! You have touched so many in a caring way, and we hope for a speedy recovery. The way Cali knew and responded; tells me all I need to know about your relationship... she loves you too. Yup, accidents happen, and the way you responded reminded me of some of the best who served, 'Break Up the Pity Party', move on, keep momentum. You are one of the toughest men I have observed; that helps the body to recover when it needs. My respect for you is beyond my ability to put into words. Thank you for sharing, Peace Love and Respect. m
Well said, Matthew. If anyone that watches this channel thinks its just about a guy building a cabin they are missing the whole point of what Shawn is teaching. I can honestly say his channels have made me a better person.
@@kurtbaker4078 Oh so true; to so many. Me included. Cali time is just the best, second to the incedental 'Arty Stuff'.... I love that. Paece to you and yours, m,.
You're a really smart guy. Probably one of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure to observe. You recognize the error and move on. Relentless AND self-reliant. Nice combination. Don't forget to put a steak on that eye!! Regards, Leslie Ann Farrar
I had an almost identical eye injury a few years back Shawn. I even had some blood from my eye ball. I was amazed how quickly it healed and how tough our eyes are! And of course the lessons we endure to finally buy those safety glasses, which I bought the next day. Always intended to but it took that lesson to buy several pairs. The beauty you share with us aside from being amazing, is also healing and calms the savage human. Makes me proud and honored to be one of Mother Earth’s children and brother to the animals. Great vid as ever, Shawn. Sorry about the injury. Made me realise how seldom you’re sick or injured, actually. A sign of a master craftsman on a mission. Love the little kitchen shelter. Thank you, again, for being our family’s grounding during these fully weird times. Much love from South Africa.
I feel bad what happened to you, hope it heals fast . Here’s my two cents: Sure would like to see you hire a helper. I know you can build this your self you are a very talented man , but your out there in the middle of no where alone , it would mainly be for safety and having that extra help can’t hurt.
OMG, I hope your eye is OK. that is going to be a shinner too. Callie was there to help you feel better. I am glad it did not hit your eye ball straight on. At least your vision is not impaired. Be careful, and feel better soon,
For the love & adoraton of 'man's' best friend sweet Cali, comforting her dad. At night a slice of cuccumber Shawn over your closed eye will give you solace & maybe less of a bruise. How the scenery of this Country is truly Mother Natures' work of art, emmense & just awe inspiring.
I'm so glad your injury hasn't seemed to affect your eye sight. Thank you for sharing some of your beautiful vacation with us. I'm from the US and I might get some kick back for saying this but I'd rather visit the Rockies in Canada than here in the US! It's gorgeous! Hope your eye is healing well. PS Cali is so in tune with you. She would not leave your side when your got hurt. ❤️❤️
So amazing your video you guy, I really love and interested on it. How cool of your video.

Your videos by accident, I am so addicted, can hardy get my day started for checking to see what your doing. Love it, have learned at from you.
There is nothing that can compare to the love and devotion of a dog companion. Bless her heart she stuck right by your side.
Pretty sure I've never been this concerned about a person never met. Take ultimate care of yourself Shawn!
Me too!
He's the man is Shawn.
In my daily thoughts. Hoping he's making progress. Not good.

A client told me it happened to her siser who lived way out in a farm who have tripped and fell down on the ground. She had to wait outside all day until her husband came home from work.
Totally agree with you on this!!
Only Shawn could build a shelter that looks like it has been in the woods for 50 years. Of course Cali steels the show with an outstanding dog pose under the shelter...beautiful.
It has been there for 50 yrs.....just all over the place and not put together as a shelter.🥴

Callie's immediate attention to you and her persistence in staying close is impressive. This breed is known for its caring and concern for its human companions, and now I see why.
Thats how women should be toward their husbands. Thats how God intended it to be.
Any breed will be like this if they are close to their people, I have a pity that won’t leave my husband’s side if he’s having a bad day, he has cancer.

That is so touching, how Cali knows that something is wrong and tries to comfort you the best she can.
Callie is the perfect companion dog. Always by your side. Giving you comfort and love. I hope your eye is well.
It's amazing how dogs know when you're hurt. Bless her. Take care out there on your own.
How in the world does this man do what he does everyday. I mean those logs are heavy 😳😅 and he does it all by himself. He is a inspiration to us all.
The one thing I think about each time your filming is, where is your wife?
Just the interaction between you and Cali is priceless. Love to all.
Ouch! My first thought was, put ice on it. My second thought was ,where will he get ice?!
Dogs are so tuned in to humans feelings. You and Callie make a great team.
If you get the wraparound, yellow lense safety glasses, they work really well in low light conditions. That's going to be a heck of a shiner.
Take care!
Even your temporary shelter is something to be admired.

Absolutely loved that too. Among many many things, Shawn is helping me overcome my phobia about bears.
The bear chowing down on the berries reminds me of my Mum. When she a young she went out to a raspberry patch near her home to pick a few berries for a pie. As she was picking she noticed the family dog had followed her out to the berry patch. Anyway after picking enough for her pie (and the bunch she ate while picking) she headed home...got there and there was the dog...tied to its doghouse. lol
I wouldnt say he went to town on them. Let's not get carried away
The healing power of Cali! 100% such a good girl!
So very true. All of the skills are amazing. I remember the cabin in your backyard from the garden logs. Then the one you moved.
Thank you Cali for checking that Shawn was alright and watching him.

Please take more care! xx
YES THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE NEEDS. A RADIO SATELLITE PHONE.
@counselorChick I think, for Shawn, it would not help him emotionally. Family helping or close friends now and then but he needs to work in a solitary way.

I got tears in my eyes twice during this video. Once seeing Cali comfort you, and once while you were out on your walk. That always speaks to me, as if you are reminding us "This Is Why." Shawn, you're new location is absolutely breathtaking! I can't get over the beauty of the rivers and mountains, you're living in heaven!
This episode had everything. Shelter, walls on cabin, bear eating berries, extension ladder balanced precariously on a thin wire over open space, drama, cinematic beauty, inclement weather and a loving and comforting dog. I hope your eye is ok. Scary.
That's the thing man can do it alone only he has to be extra careful so as not to hurt hinself
Cali loves you so much Shawn ! She even supervised the rest of your day closely. She is the best good girl . As humans we truly don’t ever know the pure dedication of our K9 companion until we are injured. I truly hope that your eye is okay Shawn!
Sent him a pair or two
I've been thinking of this today after your injury: I'm almost the same age as you and I've begun to notice I tucker out a little faster than I did ten years ago.
Jussed sayin'.

*Quantity of life* is a curse once the *Quality of life* becomes painful and tedious.
The uninjured have no clue. They're tough and resilient, manly men, bulldozers in their own might, they know best, UNTIL they suddenly find themselves on the other side of the equation. Then it's too late, and they'll live with regrets, and disabilities for the rest of their life.

As a safety inspector I have an issue with very "creative and acrobatic" way of using your ladder.
Big fan.

As bad as injuries are, your dog makes sure you know that she is there for you. Great bear pictures!
Regards,
Leslie Ann Farrar
Hope your eye will be ok. I know how bad it hurts to injure your eye with wood. Cali is so comforting, she knows you are in pain.
So do I and it is horrendous!! Prayers for quick healing and no permanent damage.
Kind Thanks with Love and Light and Joy to be Alive! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
