Great Video, I think you convinced me to buy the SmallRig cage. If I want to use a shotgun mic, do I need the audio adapter? Have you used a shotgun mic? I am concerned that it will be visible in the shot. Suggestions? Thanks....
Thank you for watching and for the comment. So far the audio from the Hero 12 has been good (just add the small wind muffs over the mic slots) otherwise yes you will need the audio adapter and as for the shotgun mic yes some of the hairs of the deadcat will be visible so i diy hacking it a bit by trimming some hairs until it worked fine and no distractions. Just be careful not to cut too much lol. Hope that helps.
@@StorytoWrite Thanks for your quick reply and suggestion for trimming the dead cat. Here’s another question after digging deep into the rabbit hole last night. If I’m using an external mic and power pole extension, that combination calls for a USB-C port and one of those small round mic ports. If I’m using the SmallRig cage from your video, the only option is USB-C. The Media Mod can accommodate both connections. Furthermore, if I’m using a power pole, the hassle and main objection to the Media Mod of having to remove the Go Pro from the Media Mod when changing the battery is no longer an issue. I still prefer the design of the SmallRig but I would need the two ports and SmallRig only has one option for a USB-C. Do you have a suggestion? Thanks….
@@jgtoll I used both those combinations of power bank pole and external shockgun mic. If using an external mic without a media mod you would need the gopro mic adapter which comes already with a mic port and usb-c port. So that solves the issues of not having to detach the gopro to exchange battery since the power bank extends the extra power. So in short you can use both connections with a mic adapter.
@@StorytoWrite Buying a mic adapter makes sense. Can the mic adapter mount similar to the one shown with model 3083C be purchased for model 3084C? I would buy 3083C but Amazon shows it as a frequently returned item. If not, how do you connect the mic adapter to the cage?
@@jgtoll yes mic adapter would be best with this cage. I purchased the 3083C version that includes the audio adapter port that connects at the bottom of the cage.
How did you get a GoPro with good audio from the internal microphone? Mine sounds like absolute garbage and the Media mod is equally as bad. Plus it doesn't work anymore for whatever reason.
Thanks for the question. Since im placing the gopro in a low overhead angle for these particular shots the internal mics are located close enough to capture the sound of my voice. My Gopro settings for both 9 and 11: In protunes I set both Raw Audio and Wind Reduction OFF. When editing (Premiere Pro - in Audio Effects) I try to keep it simple by using Multiband Compressor I use preset "Broadcast" and if needed Raise Vocals. Not sure in other video editing software if they have these oprions. Hope that helps. I sometimes use the media mod with the same settings. But I prefer using the internal mics. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
@@StorytoWrite good insight and having good audio for free is a struggle when my channel hasn't justified paying for anything yet. At some point soon I'll have to hire a tech guy to come in and look over everything I'm using and make recommendations for upgrades. Thanks for sharing how you do it.
Decent vid but you did not demonstrate the cold shoe usage. I just received a SmallRig Hero12 cage with the intent of using it with the GoPro Light Mod LED light. Unfortunately, the cold shoe on the cage does not provide a snug fit for the Light Mod and it would just fall out. The little tension pad on the bottom of the Light Mod is fine for the GoPro adapter that it ships with but I don't see any way to make it work with the much looser cold shoe on the SmallRig cage.
Thanks for watching the video. I use the ulanzi lcd light instead. But yes you are correct the gopro light is loose on the cold shoe mount. I should of shown how I solved that issue. I crisscrossed a rubber band hair tie around the light. here is a link so you get a quick look on how it looks check this link to my "whats in my gopro seeker backpack" th-cam.com/video/NcOCpEPx4FU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GA-PX4bSIEmZtR_f If you pause it on 327mins of the video you will see what i am talking about with the black hair tie band and that will solve the issue. The purpose if that diy was to hold in place the softbox cover that constantly fell off gopro light. But worked great as a hack for the coldshoe on the smallrig cage and have used that method many times without it falling. Hope that helps.
Great review sledgehammered that like button sharing out
Much appreciated
Very helpful vid, just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much bro was trying to find out how to remove that damn door !!!
Awesome glad i could help. Thanks for the comment.
If you DON'T use the mic adapter, WHAT DO YOU USE?
Great video! Simple and helpful! Liked and subbed!
Thank you
🔥🔥🔥
Great video, thank you, I needed to know about the pass through door so 👍👍 how did you stick your dead cats on? Just glue? 3M tape?
I used 3m tape with a punch hole center and attached it on top of the mic opening of the case.
thanks for sharing! fit for gopro 12?
Haha loving your reviews🎉
Owned 3 gopros and first time I discovered the right way to open the battery cage.
