      Ali Haidar all the Taiwanese made impact sockets are made by Great Neck and are awesome. Whether it's Tekton, Kobalt, Pittsburgh Pro, Craftsman evolv, etc.

    I’ve been using these sockets professionally as a heavy mechanic for years and I’ve never broken one , the only problem is the laser etching wears off

    I like that they offer full sets. One of my long metric impact 1/2" sockets sets didn't come with a 18 mm socket. It cost me 20.00 dollars just for one 18 mm socket.

    So nice to get unbiased tool reviews. I just ordered 3/8” drive metric and sae in shallow and deep from HD for super cheap. Around $80 for all four sets. Can’t wait to use these on my Milwaukee fuel 3/8” stubby impact.

    as of recently tekton is now using the laser marking on the front and they are also stamping the size again on the back of the socket. so now you have two markings, with the stamped one being a much more permanent marking, which i think is a huge improvement

    I have the Harbor Freight set and they are very strong. I work at a tire shop where I constantly use 17mm,19mm, and 21mm 1/2" drive sockets on Ingersoll rand air impact wrenches and I have never broken one. I would get this set because of the nice case and how they do not skip any sizes unlike harbor freight. Very detailed review. Please do more reviews on this company's products.

    I have several sets of Tekton impact sockets, and have had them for a few years now, and I like them. I've never had any of them break, they have a good fit on hardware, and they don't ruin the hardware. I'd say you really can't go wrong with these, especially for the money.

    I have a ton of the tekton sockets from 10mm all the way to 38mm and I have noticed the same thing there pretty identical to the Pittsburgh pro deep impact sockets I have both brands work well do like the tekton sockets a little more because the sizes go very high with no skipping I both this kit and grabbed the 25mm to the 38mm in individual sockets also have the complete 10mm to 38mm set of tekton sockets in shallow also

  • @dillwiggle2
    @dillwiggle2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wish they also had the size permanently stamped on the socket. The pittsburgh latest sockets actually have a big numbering stamped on them now pretty similar to the newest snap-on sockets, They are big and permanent.

    the point of the less deep snap on socket was to not let the bolt go all the way to the bottom. This design is to have faster screwing of bolts because you don't have to pre thread them by hand but leave them within the socket.

      Good point, but I would never start a nut on a bolt with an impact wrench.
      It would be better to get the treads started correctly before you start hammering away with an impact gun

    Nice review. I think I'll get a couple to add to the small tool set that I keep in my truck. Like yourself, I always end up grabbing a couple of impact sockets out of my home tool cabinet when I get a call from a friend or family member that needs assistance. It just makes sense to keep a couple, especially for lugs nuts in my truck at all times. Again, very nice review.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I am on the fence about doing "tool fights", simply because many of the tests on these to show the power cannot be accurately duplicated in my opinion. Neither the W7150 or 2763 lacks power at all, and there never is a bolt that one cannot remove that the other can. I am working on finishing up the final review for the W7150 & there are multiple tests that mirror the tests I did for the 2763, so you can watch the two and decide for yourself which would be better I suppose. I will say though, that both have an extreme amount of power, and both are excellent impacts.....I really feel it boils down to a brand preference.

    Interesting video on sockets and impact wrenches. I noticed at the end (around 9:38) that you have a straight air connector to your IR pneumatic wrench. If you haven't changed it since this video (July, 2014), you should replace it with a flex or pivoting brass connector for your impact wrench. No longer will you have to fight that damned air line to get your impact into a place that you couldn't reach before. After a few days of use, you'll wonder why you didn't change it years ago.

    Great review! I have already purchased the Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pro impact socket sets or I probably would have purchased the Tecton set instead. However you got something wrong on the video. The Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Pro lug nut socket sets are thin wall sockets with plastic sleeves and do have a lifetime warranty. They are also Chrome Molybdenum. Also the Pittsburgh Pro tends to be mostly complete CO MO sets 10 to 19, 21, 22, and 27.

    Whatever anyone wants to say about HFT, cheap and functional = cheap replacement. they have lifetime warranty too. Can't go wrong with their professional line. I wouldn't trust the power tools to save my life but, I'd pay the HFT price for my shop needs every day of the week.

    Awsome review man! I haven't got an air compressor, but I've already been started looking for a nice impact socket set for when I get my first compressor. I always thought the Tekton was a nice set :)

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! :) If you end up getting one at some point, definitely consider these (or other TEKTON sets), since you can truly get "full sets" in 1/2" & 3/8" with them. They do offer partial sets also, but you never know what size you are going to need. Lifetime warranty & very low price....you cant go wrong!

  • @JonathanStrong
    @JonathanStrong 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    About ready to pull the trigger, and grab four of these Tekton sets: 1 each of the full range metric Deep and Shallow 1/2 inch socket sets, and 1 each of the full range SAE Deep and Shallow. Add some extensions, and I should have everything covered. But...if I'm not mistaken, it looks like you can get the deep well metric in either 11-32mm OR 10-24mm (14 or 15 piece sets), but the shallow only come in 11-32mm sets. Any idea why that is? Call me crazy - but I was hoping to cover the same range with both deep and shallow sets, in both metric and SAE.
    EDIT a day later: Around the same time I posted this comment, I also sent a similar message to Tekton via their website. I got a reply today. They acknowledged the discrepancy, said they're reviewing their socket sets, and changes / updates will be made at year end. I'm intrigued, but unfortunately I won't be able to put all my pending projects on hold until then. Not a huge purchase -- just thought it would be nice to have complete sets, no missing sizes, in SAE and metric, shallow and deep, and the Tekton's price and warranty support seemed like an excellent deal.

    I've been enjoying your videos and really appreciate the detail of your product testing. I bought several of the Tekton impact socket sets with the Father's Day deals on Amazon because they were COMPLETE sets. I think you've created the first online video review of the sets so far and am thankful they held up well to the HF, Matco, and Snap On impact sockets.
    I have two questions I would really appreciate your opinion on:
    1.) Have you found a complete set for 1/4" impact sockets similar to Tekton? I couldn't find a complete set in the red cases like I bought in3/8" and 1/2".
    2.) need to purchase a battery operated impact wrench next. Do you prefer the IR or the Milwaukee 18v Fuel?
    Thank you for the awesome reviews!

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks Eric! I like that people such as yourself let me know that, it is good motivation to continue making more reviews :)
      To answer your questions:
      1. The only reasonably priced 1/4" impact sets that I have found are made by Sunex. Look at amazon for "sunex 1/4 impact socket sets". They have a master metric set, sae set, and combo set I believe. Also lifetime warranty & are fairly easy to deal with if you need a replacement.
      2. I think that the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2763 (that I reviewed) & the Ingersoll Rand W7150 (that I unboxed & am in the process of reviewing) are the top two cordless guns available on the market. Both of them are extremely powerful & have great features. It really would boil down to a brand preference & other tool choices in each battery lineup. You would need to see the other tools, to make the choice of which would be the best for you (since batteries and chargers are a major expense). You wont go wrong with either impact.
      Thanks!

  • @BrenticusMaximus1
    @BrenticusMaximus1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chrome vanadium has a harder, more brittle quality than chrome molybdenum which absorbs and deflects the torque. Cr-v sockets can ruin the anvil on an impact gun as well as void some manufacturers warranty. I will admit cr-v sockets will not mushroom as quickly as cr-mo.
    I second the desire for a gearwrench impact socket review 👌
    Great review as always, keep it up 😃👍

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +BrenticusMaximus1 Cr-v sockets (chrome) are very thin walled & crack frequently when used with an impact....the much thicker Cr-v impact sockets do not share this negative quality.....and I am using them on impacts up to 1,350 ft-lbs.....zero issues. On the other hand, Chrome moly sockets deform much faster with extreme torque and can start mushrooming after very limited use (as in the first day). I have not heard one instance of someone being denied a warranty claim for using the incorrect socket......nor do any warranty rules for any impact that I have read state "Cr-v impact socket use voids the warranty". The main problem with impacts failing is #1 - Abuse/Neglect (dropping them, no air filter, no oil) & #2 - Incorrect air pressure (150psi all the time).

      +BrenticusMaximus1 I havent tried the Duo-sockets yet, but have seen them in person.....interestingly enough, the GP rep said that they very rarely see any of them come in for warranty claims & they hold up great. I do have some GP sockets that I am about to do a review on & also some Sunex ones that I use all the time. Stay tuned!

      @RealToolReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      imax006 I like Sunex socket sets.....I have no complaints with them at all. I would highly suggest getting "complete" sets whenever possible --- if you dont, the size you will eventually need will be the one that they did not include!

    • @whatfreedom7
      @whatfreedom7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tip with sunex sets is don’t go for the sets that have short and long together or stand and metric together. Go for just metric short and metric long for example. You get a wider variety of sizes with no skips. My set goes from 10mm-36mm but the sets with shorts and longs don’t go that big.

    This is very discouraging, I just need a 3/4 in drive socket set with the 10-24mm socket range. Tekton doesn't have the stand alone socket set for the 3/4 inch, they try to sell you the ratchet along with it, which I don't need.

    Quick question. Do the impact sockets have the little indentations on the female ratchet end so you can use them with twist to lock socket rail? Just looked at Pittsburgh at (HF) and they only have the pin detent.

      you shouldnt have any problem using them for that. If they will hold up to an impact gun, they will hold up to a manual ratchet for sure.. I do it sometimes if i dont feel like getting up and walking to my tool box.

    I have had this socket set a few months now, and here are my views on this product.
    the MAIN reason I bought these sockets was that they are individually "marked" showing the size of each socket, what I did not realise, is that the markings are just painted on, for the money your paying, I would have expected the markings to be etched into the sockets, NOT PAINTED ON, yes, I do realise that the plastic case has all the size markings inside, but had I known the size`s were sprayed onto each socket, i would have had second thoughts on buying this product, ALSO the case is plastic, its a bit flimsy and flexy, again, metal would have been nice, or a better quality/stronger plastic, I think you should point out to your viewers who watch your videos, and act on YOUR recommendations and buy these products, about design flaws (paint instead of etchings etc)

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      t5jerry I dont see this as a design flaw.....for $50 for a complete set of impact sockets with a lifetime warranty, these are a steal. I did state that the were laser engraved (not paint) & that the sizes were not stamped into the metal. I carry this exact set in my vehicle at all times & have helped numerous people on the side of the road change tires & also use them anytime I am working on vehicles outside the garage. Never once have I had any issues. All of these socket sets on the market today have very similar blow-mold cases ---- the one exception being the Ingersoll Rand impact socket sets (heavier-duty case with metal latches), but those sockets have a shiny painted coating on them that would be damaged a lot easier than the Tekton sockets.

    Have you noticed the Snap On sockets are more softer than the Chrome Moly sockets that are often made in Taiwan? As far as I know Snap On doesn't use Chrome Moly and therefor don't last as long and often round out on the drive end corners severely. Do you recommend chrome moly sockets as even Matco now uses Chrome Moly sockets called the ADV series? Thanks, Marc

      I think most of the impact sockets you will buy are chome moly.....these for whatever reason are chrome vanadium, but it is no issue whatsoever with the durability on them. With any tools like this, I would just suggest getting them with a quality warranty (aka the manufacturer actually will replace them without making you jump through a ton of hoops).
      TEKTON and MIT (Michigan Industrial Tools) are owned by the same company & the impact sockets are the same. I have some older MIT impact sockets (cr-v) that I have used literally for years with no problems at all. I think for the price, they cannot be beat.
      I am not a brand loyalist by any means when it comes to any tools, but you should really be careful when listening to someone who only thinks "one brand" is better than all others in every case.

    what about the cr-v. I've heard that they can break and blow apart. what are your thoughts on that?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Cowtails CR-V impact sockets do NOT have the same issues as CR-V chrome sockets.....they have much thinner side walls & are more prone to failure. That being said.....even the Chrome-Moly thin wall impact sockets fail regularly.....you just cannot use thin sockets with impacts & expect them to hold up. I have heard NO complaints with these Tekton sockets failing for anybody. I highly recommend them.

      @@greygoosemafia CR-V if nothing "breaks" will wear down the anvil of your impact gun. CR-MO if nothing "breaks" will wear down the inside of the socket that attaches to the anvil of your impact gun. Kinda makes it worth it to go ahead and hunt down some cr-mo ones, they're not that much more expensive, just make sure to avoid "Made in China" Cr-Mo, many brands of those shatter like glass, but the Taiwanese ones are endorsed by heavy equipment professionals. You can also get a cr-mo impact extensions (wobbles rock) and use them on the anvil of your gun and use the CR-V sockets to protect your anvil. For DIY you may not wear enough to notice with any setup.

    Is there a reason you used 24mm on a 5/8 bolt. Did you round the bolt a little or did construction start using metric sizes? Just wondering

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luis Contreras 24mm fit the lag bolt exactly, so thats the one I used....I could have used a SAE size, but the point was really just to show this particular socket set (metric impact sockets) & that they could hold up to the extreme torque of the W7150 without failing.

    I have the texton impact sockets in metric and standard deep and shallow . and my only complaint is the lazer etching is wearing off I have had them about a year but they have been holding up great and the shallow in the shallow metric set it dose not have a 10mm in 1/2" drive in the kit so the kit is 14 pc 11- 32 missing 16,20,23,25-29, even the smaller 1/2" drive set is missing 14,16,20,23 😒 kinda frustrating.

      +Bradly Windsor I know that they sell different versions of socket sets....and all of them are not "complete sets". I almost always try and get complete sets, so I dont run into exactly what you are talking about --- missing sizes.....nothing is worse than needing a size only to find out it isnt there.

    • @windsbra12
      @windsbra12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just because your impacts gun is capable of more torque than 90+% of the pneumatic guns, its not a proof of quality sockets; unless the nut you are removing is torqued at that top end range of the gun.

    Chrome Moly is the better grade impact socket over the Chrome Vandium.The Chrome Moly takes the beating from an impact better than the Chrome Vandium.The Pittsburgh Pro impact sockets are made out of the Chrome Moly steel

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have yet to ever break a TEKTON, Pittsburg, or MIT CR-V impact socket....and even with CR-MO thin walled sockets from other brands, they never carry a lifetime warranty because they will eventually break.
      I spoke with the warranty dept from TEKTON prior to making this video, and asked them specifically how often claims are needed for the CR-V impact sockets. They told me that the only impact sockets that ever break under normal use (meaning used with impacts, and not with ratchets/breaker bars/cheater pipes) are the 19mm sockets that are used to remove most Honda crank bolts.
      For the price & warranty, these would be hard to beat anywhere. Especially if your "local" harbor freight is 80 miles away like mine is.

    • @mtejada1

      I think its for the little locking ball that on your breaker bar or ratchet.

    • @SantanaTelevision
      @SantanaTelevision 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mario Tejada It serves one purpose, socket retension. So if it's a lock-pin impact setup, that hole is there to lock the socket on, if it's a spring-ball, that allows the socket to retain itself on a ratchet or breaker bar.
