    Thank you for such great videos. Cannot wait to visit Egypt. Would want to see EVERYTHING so it could take some time. please show short and medium stay rentals and what they cost per moth? This is a topic especially relevant for single females who travel alone. 🤩

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks Eleanor! If I were you, I would just look for an Airbnb or something, it's probably your best option. I've had people ask me in the past to show rentals, but I honestly don't think I will ever make a video about that, for a lot of different reasons.
      First, I don't speak much Arabic, so it's very, very difficult to speak with any landlords or people renting out apartments, rooms, etc. I would 100% need to recruit help from my Egyptian boyfriend or friends to translate, it's virtually impossible without help. Also, bigger risk of being ripped off if you go by yourself as a foreigner.
      Second, I don't want to waste anyone's time by asking them to meet me and have me view their apartment when I am not actually looking to rent anywhere (because I already rent my own apartment - which was a royal pain in the ass to find, btw). They also might not even allow me to film inside the apartment, if I were to actually try and contact people, take time off work to drive to wherever the apartment was, and view it.
      Those are two big reasons for me to never make this video, it's a lot of trouble for me, and wasting the time of the people that own these places. But not only that, there are so many variables when it comes to renting and the cost. Where in Egypt, to begin with. Then what part of that city? That will affect the cost. Gated community/compound or local neighborhoods? Furnished or unfurnished? Etc. etc.
      Many landlords also do not want to rent to people for a short term, usually they want a year contract. You may be able to find 6 months, maybe? But typically, if you want only a short term rental, then you need to look for just a room to rent in a house or apartment, not an entire apartment to yourself. That of course means you will have roommates. But with Airbnb, you can rent by the month, and it will be furnished. For those reasons, I think Airbnb will be your best option. But if you feel like digging around on the internet, you can look for apartments on the website Olx, just to see the quality and prices.
      Just a heads up, the quality of many apartments (in Cairo at least) is pretty low considering the high cost, compared to what I've seen in many other places I around the world. Not sure why, but it's just something I've noticed. Thailand or Argentina, for example, you will get good, modern facilities for a pretty low price, but not so in Egypt. In Cairo (depending on which part, I suppose), the cost can be kind of low, but the quality will be very low too. Just check Olx, you will see what I mean 😅

    Is this Airport new or was it exclusively a military airport now a dual use airfield - military and civilian? I ask because You have two airports in Heliopolis, Cairo International and the airbase el Almaz. Unfortunately for me an Egyptian by birth but a Canadian passport holder, I can't simply buy a Visa upon arrival, I have to jump through hoops getting an expensive Visa from the Egyptian Embassy here in Canada first. Anyway, I just love the ambiance of that part of Cairo you were filming in during the day. Looking forward to your next video on Sunday, as always take care.

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I've never heard of the Sphinx Airport being anything but a civilian airport, never heard anything about the military in relation to it either. As far as the other 2 airports, well I only know of Cairo International, so it makes sense the other one you mentioned is a military airbase. I know Canadians (regardless of birth country) have to jump through a lot of hoops now, because of a political spat between Egypt and Canada (something about Canada making it hard for Egyptians to get a visa, so Egypt made it harder for Canadians to get a visa too). Could that be the reason, or is it because you were born in Egypt? I don't know. Thanks Cherif!

      @@Gventures no been back two times, 2010 & 1972, never had any issues. My beloved late mother went back so many times I can’t remember and no issues either. No, it is the dispute between the Trudeau administration and the Egyptian government. Funny thing is the Canadian immigration system is just as lax as that of the Biden administration, yet they pick on Egyptians? Politics is a strange business I guess. Have you not seen the el Almaz Airport as you take the main drag from Heliopolis to Cairo proper? It is just before you pass by that castle that rotates, built by a Swede in Roxy I believe. I believe they use it for an Apache helicopter squadron and as a VIP Airport for the President’s Gulfstream G VI and foreign dignitaries.

      @@cherifbar I dunno, I don't follow politics much. But I know any Canadian passport holder, regardless of having Egyptian ancestry or not, must jump through many hoops to get into Egypt now. If you held an Egyptian passport you would of course have no problems.
      I haven't noticed the Almaz Airport, but I guess I don't go to Heliopolis often at all, and when I do I am concentrating on the road ahead of me as I drive 😅 Also I guess since rich people just fly through there I haven't had much use for the information so I've never heard of it, haha. That's not true. I arrived at 3am and had no problem finding an Uber, it arrived within minutes. Also there is options like InDriver, Didi or Careem. Who orders a private limo service?! I have never done that in my life.

    If it helps anyone traveling from the UK, I have a pay monthly Vodafone (UK) sim with international coverage (which is expensive to start). But it works fine in Cairo, even though I still have to pay a few pounds a day to access my data allowance. So it's expensive, but at 'stupid o'clock' in the morning, it helps. I'm checking out Giza airport next time around, it looks good!

    Hey G, been a big fan of your content for a while. As a US citizen myself I am wondering about the visa process and since you've been living there for a while, do you have to leave the country every 90 days or there is another way to extend your status?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks Ruya! Good question. What do you mean every 90 days? As far as I am aware, there is not even a visa that allows you to be within Egypt for 90 consecutive days. Most of the visas (if not all) allow you to only be within the country for 30 consecutive days. But you can extend your visa within the country. For example, you arrive with a tourist visa on arrival or e-visa which lasts for 30 days. A day or 2 before it expires, go to the immigration office and extend it. You can request an extension for 1 year, but they usually never grant that, and will give you anywhere from 3 months-6 months (depending on who knows what, the mood of the immigration officer maybe 😅).
      I've made a lot of videos about visas and extending visas in Egypt, and I actually plan to make another one in the nearish future. I will leave the links to all the visa videos I have made and how to extend below.

      Yeah there's tons of great food in the city! I don't typically eat near the pyramids, but I can recommend places in or around downtown area. All of these places I am about to mention I have probably made videos at as well 😅
      I love Al Hamra, which is located about 5 minute walk from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. Their beef shawarma with Syrian bread is the best! (P.S. it's a Lebanese restaurant)

      Abou Tarek Koshary video: th-cam.com/video/OtA_QjRcYME/w-d-xo.html
      Al Dahan is also a very good restaurant I've made many videos at, they have a wide variety of Egyptian food. You'll need a taxi to get here from downtown Cairo though. It's only about a 5-10 minute drive from the Egyptian museum, but it is on the other side of the Nile, located in Giza. (P.S. There's a similarly named restaurant in Khan El Khalili, but don't be fooled, it is not the same!)

      Lastly, I think the best restaurant I've ever been to for Egyptian food is Sobhy Kaber. You'll need a taxi to get here from downtown Cairo as well, but oh man, they are worth it. Everything I've ever had here is amazing.

      I'm not sure the reason for the second airport to be honest, though my mind wants to say it has something to do with the GEM Museum which is kind of close to the airport. Maybe for people just flying in for a day and wanting to see the pyramids and GEM, people will be more inclined with a quick trip from the Sphinx Airport rather than passing through Cairo's sometimes very heavy traffic. Dear Gventures
    NB : No WiFi at Sphinx Airport , so unless you already have an Egyptian SIM card you can't call Uber or Careem or DiDi or Indriver unless you use the Roaming service and it will cost a lot and the internet is very very weak at Sphinx by Roaming .
    I suggest Careem for a cab and it cost me 189 EGP from Cairo Downtown at 20:30 ( way cheaper than Uber )
    Another thing to consider , the police wont let you get in the airport for the departure flight unless the departure is within 2 hours only , so if you arrive at Sphinx airporr 3 hours before your departure you gonna wait 1 hour outside the airport terminal at the sun during the day , people use the mosque as a shelter from the heat, plus no canteen or coffeeshop or any shop neither nearby or inside the aiport before passport control !
    Dear Gventures, Great Job i watch all your videos about Egypt ,i often travel to Egypt ,im frequent tourist there, and I hope to meet you one day in Cairo.

      Thank you for the information, it is good for people that may not know this information!
      Yes ordering a taxi of any kind through an app won't work without internet, so ordering an Uber is really only useful to those people who may have purchased an eSIM or have an international package through their home country. Anyone who is relying upon a local SIM card once they enter the country (which I prefer) will have to pay for the taxis waiting outside the airport, and they are of course never the best option due to cost.
      Having lived in Egypt for 2.5 years now, I do of course know the apps Careem and InDriver and Didi, sometimes those apps take longer, but it all just depends on your preference and what you're willing to spend.
      I only arrived through the Sphinx Airport but never departed, also good information for people planning to depart from there. I appreciate all your inputs and suggestions, thanks rabihhaidar in Rome 🙏

      For those who pay by cash Dollar, Euro or other currency and if the bill note is higher than 25$ like 50€ or 100$ they will give you the rest either by dollar or euro or egyptian currency.

Same price as visa on arrival, and then you don't have to mess around with anything on the ferry or when you get off. Normally I get a visa on arrival when traveling to countries that have it available, but with a smaller port of arrival like that, I would personally feel more comfortable getting an e-visa.
