It’s that last 20% that’s gonna make everyone tear their hair out though….. they haven’t even gotten to the interior yet…. Much “fun” to come with the cabin electrical
I hope you are here for that moment my man. Stay healthy and keep watching this amazing progress. My mom is 83 with dementia, and doesn't even really know who she is, so the fact you are keeping up with this process and progress is great. I hope you do get to see this baby fly one day and are still healthy and kickin.
Good to see you're making progress AND following the manual. Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see it finished and flying. Cheers from Poland to you guys, you're doing an amazing job.
Massive well done. The complexity of those engines is amazing. Love watching you do all this. Keep up the good work and you’ll be flying missions again. Bless you guys.
It’s so good to see the crew back at it! I can certainly understand the humbling experience that happened in your helping out in North Carolina. And all the while working on the 401 was your major calling and then filling all the hopelessness of those that have lost. Everything has got to be a hard thing to reconcile within yourself. The only thing I can suggest to you Jason is one day at a time one moment at a time and whenever you feel overwhelmed stop what you’re doing. Allow yourself time to work through it before tackling anything else. And also there’s times were just powering through something is therapy in and of itself.. God bless you and the crew and thank you again for jumping back in the saddle and providing great content!
A super interesting and "fun" episode of reverse engineering systems from a complex airplane nearly as old as me! One has to wonder at the approach to design and building aircraft from back in the 1960s? I guess that because everything was hand drawn and totally manual back then, it's no wonder you get to have a "lovely time" figuring out those awful exploded diagrams, and correcting all those "undocumented features" you find, such as incremental mods, fixes, and changes! Thankfully your great workshop banter and jokes helps keep you all "blue side up"! Keep plugging away boys, this is a great project! 🤪 Jason, your team efforts in NC with your mate's R44 have been very much appreciated delivering communications and supplies to the desperate folk down there. I've been keeping tabs on all the videos circling YT. It breaks my heart to see people don't matter to "the government", but that's to be expected. Look after yourself! Cheers from NZL, David
I just found this channel and watched the videos of this free abandoned plane series uploaded 2 years ago continuously until here, I feel like I watched the entire Star Wars series in one go.
I built a very simple aircraft with a Lycoming engine (Zenith CH601 XLB). After I got the airworthiness certificate and after first flight, it still took over 2 years to tweak, fix, adjust, redo, undo, redo again, replace infant mortality parts, troubleshoot electrical issues, and on and on. I can't even imagine all of the time and effort it will take to get this plane to be a reliable aircraft - after it is "100% complete". It will be a number of years still before this plane is flying missions. I just wonder that 2 years from now, and the plane is still not flying, will the support erode? It's an amazing effort by this group of people but it is such a money and time suck I can't help feeling all this effort could have been spent on a more productive effort. I still don't think they comprehend just how much effort will still be required after this plane is "finished". I DO enjoy the videos and commend the team on their amazing effort.
I worked on a lot of antique Harley Davidsons in my younger years, the sequence for re assembly is so important. It's easy to get the cart before the horse and cause yourself to have to backtrack because it's impossible to get at something when installed in the wrong order. Air planes are way harder than Harleys!
The complexity of all of these systems and components is daunting! One can see why planes like this are so expensive to buy and maintain. Good work team!
The editing is top-notch on this one! Also, one of my favourite retro-computing TH-camrs lives in rural Asheville and had his house neatly bisected by fallen trees - shout-out to Lazy Game Reviews / LGR! 👍
This is why you have the best content, Jason; you guys have been doing this RIGHT from the beginning. Ok, well maybe when you guys took it apart more photos and tagging of parts could have and should have been done but live and learn. I restore old antiques and antique electronics, and no matter how many photos, drawings or videos I make in the process, there is always something I can't remember. With all of my documentation something is always missed, it never fails. What I'm trying to say is that it happens to everybody. The bottom line is you guys are taking your time and doing it RIGHT. Keep the faith, and it is going to be a brand new 401 that you, your team, your viewers and everyone (including Sam from Heaven) can be proud of.
The current situation in some parts of the US is devastating. My sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to the people who lost their homes and loved ones. Many of them don't have access to humanitarian support, and it seems that the government is not taking the necessary actions to help the people, which really bugs me out. Apart from that, I'm happy to see that the Phoenix is one step closer to fly again. It doesn't matter what comes on the way, the 401 Phoenix will fly again! Keep up the Great work! 🫂❤🔥
Coming along nicely. Be interesting to see if Jason decides to repaint it. I know a really good colour scheme for it!! Sky blue pink and purple spots!!
Hi RR team. Nice to see Greg back again, even if he`s just an observer. 401 is also Greg`s engagement and project, like all aall on board. Keep it up guys. Sam`s proud of you for sure.
It's really taking shape. The amount of work you guys have done is mind boggling. Very few people can stay focused on a project this big. Amazing work guys!
Crazy to think it's been over 2 years on the 401. Seems like just yesterday you where talking about how to paint it and getting it ready only for everything to change. Don't recall ever hearing about final paint choice. Still hope it's the classic white and green. That made it so popular on the channel
Hey Guys, Great work.... I like Pete's work ethic. He also seems like a great guy to work with. Guys I can only imagine how you all feel, but y'all are bringing Her back to life, and it will all be worth it. The 401 will be almost like new. Keep up the Great work. Sam would be proud.
I was so relieved to see that hose cutter later in the video, using the loose razorblade was really hard to watch as I know what it feels like if you slip!!!
There is a saying something like: The best things are worth waiting for! Yes! This project has taken time & longer then you thought! That's OK! Anybody that tackles a rebuild like this one have high hopes to get it done fast! Well, I learned that it happens in Gods time! 😂❤ Then when it's finished & you look back at the Journey! When you roll down the runway & she lifts off the ground & heads up into the Sky! You will Celebrate & appreciate the time & excellence in the work that everbody put into this rebuild rescue mission.. The dedication toward finishing what you started & doing it right, will lift your spirits! The 401will be one of a kind,, special Bird, who will leave the bird nest she was & be the rescue bird she was meant to be!! The learning experience will make you wiser & the friends God blesses you with, will remain in your heart & memories forever. Embrace it ❤ Be Happy! 😂
What you all are doing is great you’re making improvements to the factory system is far better then what was engineered. Sometimes I think they made it harder than what it needed to be done and then again back when it was built maybe they didn’t have the lines for the vacuum system available that are available today.
Exceptional results come from exceptional people. You all produce extraordinary things that are a wonder to everyone who watch you. Keep up all the work you are doing with the plane and whatever else requires your attention. All the very best to you and God bless you.
If anything comes out of seeing the 401 being gutted out and, fingers crossed, airworthy. I hope it's people getting an understanding of what's involved and maybe get enough insight to get it and get a fire lit under their butts to chase a career in aviation. It's a fickle mistress but you get out what you put in. ❤ Love what you guys are doing.
Lots of people are saying it's really close to flying. No, it's not. Restorations are SLOW - and they are sending everything out for overhaul when it needs to be installed, which adds time. Once the deice boots are on, the props are on, the interior and avionics are in and operational, then we'll be able to say it's close to being able to fly. You aren't going to be able to fly it until the whole job is done. Otherwise it's not conforming to its type design, ergo not airworthy.
I feel the 401 will fly again probably within the next year. You might make Oshkosh next year if you’re lucky providing get the help and get all the parts and the funds in place that’s a very good possibility. I’m not giving up. I’m sticking with the channel. You’re giving me inspiration and hope.
Wow, Guys. Yes, pictures are your friend. Lesson learned. You got this though, putting it back by the book will be the right thing to do. For future repairs, if it's all by the book, you can repair it by the book.
Good morning all you beautiful rescue crew and viewers. Wishing you all a wonderful and safe days to come. The 401 is coming along very well, looking so good. Keep up the great work, Pete. I guess they need some BETTER HELP
Been following the 401 from day 1.... i feel so invested in this. I love seeing the progress!!! It's so close (yet so far) . Well done RR, keep it up!
Serious progress on the 401 is being made. It’s getting really close to coming alive. I can’t wait to see it.

Awesome job guys! One step at a time. You’re getting closer. Sam would have loved it. Great work.
The 401 is really starting to look amazing!!!!! I know Sam is looking down and can't wait to see you guys make the first flight!!!!!
