    Not quite as unruly as back in the day :) . I have yet to get my setup complete for DX - in the process of commissioning an inverted V dipole (have to tune the SWR) but the local contacts are few and far between so can't wait for some skip to have a CQ with the continent. If that does not work I may have to take to the hills :). Good video Fred.

    In the 1970s in Canada, when the "skip" was strong, the US operators were generally running at 20 over 9 for 24 hours per day. Made local communications impossible. Not sure what it's like now as I have been a ham since 1983. Only listen to CB to know when sporadic E is happening.

    I have tried most weeks to get in touch with any Charlie Tango station. Yesterday 27.305 was overrun with Spanish stations at 9/5. If I can copy Athens and Cyprus why are the home counties so hard to reach? I am in Shropshire and run a superstar 6900 through a super bazooka wire di-pole, from wire antennas uk, slightly inclined, up in my loft. Thank you for all your tips I have an outside light transformer power pack now. Hope to break through either mobile or from home soon. 73's 26ST11 Steve.

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve. To answer your question there is a lot of radio radio propagation around this time of year which your antenna is doing a great job of picking up. We have been wiped off the 305 all week and had to changed freq. Your local contacts are made on groundwave which a weaker than the current skip conditions.

    • @BoB4jjjjs
      @BoB4jjjjs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@annax5212 Using more than 50 watts mobile is totally pointless, you can't hear what you are transmitting to, so there is no point in putting out a lot of power. A good set up CB is a lot better than anything that splatters is over modulated/deviated is ten times worse than a quieter low set. A good set up CB will out perform any high powered splatter box anytime. I have seen it myself, a 8 watt set getting through where a 100 watt set couldn't, well, he did get through with his 100 watts, but the person at the other end couldn't make out what he was saying. So he turned on an Echo Mic which only made it worse. In the end the user at the other end told him to go away and get his set checked. If you do use an Echo Mic, keep it very low in echo and if a power Mic keep it low, you will be a lot clearer. Best thing is get your set set up properly and not by your local Screwdriver Expert down the road who probably knows as much as you do yourself. I am not having a go at you Anna, I am just saying for those that read. How does an alternator produce enough power to run 4KW?

    I have never had any interest in DXing and I still dont.

    • @BoB4jjjjs
      @BoB4jjjjs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Each to their own. I don't think they are pretending to be Amateurs, there are some Amateurs among them, but you will no know which ones, unless they choose to tell you of course. Personally, I go through spells of both, but I am not a fan of just giving a signal report, location, and 73's. I would rather talk to someone than do this most of the time, but when you get a good DX it can be rewarding, like when I got through to Puerto Rico. I heard low voices in the background and waited for the signals to rise just enough to try to get through. There was very few DXing at the time. I tried and got in timing it so I got in between overs, the base station came right back to me and wouldn't believe I was in Scotland. Then he noticed the signal and how it was behaving. He was talking to his chargehand who was out in the fields somewhere, he asked if he could hear me and he could, but it was difficult to talk to him, but the home base came through just fine and it lasted for well over 5 minutes, maybe closer to 10, but when the signal went it went suddenly, just dropped like a stone and they were gone. I also had a contact into Hungry when it was bad for anyone caught with CB there. That lasted 10 minutes or more and I didn't hear much skip on the go that day, but he was very clear and there were Amateur Radio Operators on with me that day on CB, but I was left to do most of the talking. All they did was "Can you hear me, I hear you?" sort of thing. His signal also went downhill very quickly. His English was very good and he did talk until conditions changed. These contacts are rewarding, I just can't be bothered when everyone and the next doors cat is on and skip is running. I listen and wait. I heard what I thought was Norwegian and called in when I got a quiet time when they were not talking, it turned out they were above the Arctic Circle logging. I only had a few minutes with them, but they were working using the CB to talk to each other. It can be rewarding if you bide your time and choose your moment. But I know where you are coming from, sometimes skip can be a real pest!
