      @@CB-RADIO-UK I find that part of the video most interesting, especially the modification aspect of it. I'm in the USA but I believe that the DE (German) CB band frequencies have all channels that will line up with US CB band frequencies too. I'm still mostly interested in SSB equipped rigs though.

    Hi Fred. I have one of these little marvels and am very pleased with it so far for the price (£53 with discount voucher). However, one feature it claims to have but doesn't is CTCSS/DCS codes. I've confirmed this with Retevis customer support and asked them to remove the information from the online and paper user manuals to avoid misleading potential buyers.
    Skip has been fantastic lately and I was listening to both sides of a conversation with one breaker in SW Scotland a couple of evenings ago on the MB62 on the UK band. I'm in south Cambridgeshire UK, so that's around 400 miles away. This was on a Thunderpole Orbitor antenna sitting atop a 1.5m aluminium pole hammered 10cm in to my back lawn.
    I've connected the braid of the coax to the aluminium pole but have no ground plane radials yet. SWR is between 1:1.2 and 1:1.5 across all UK and EU channels, so that's a good start. 😃👍

      @CB-RADIO-UK  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. Glad you like the radio. Good call on the privacy codes. I cannon stand them on CB / 10m radios and they cause no end of problems with folk not hearing audio from other stations. Good job on the pole in the garden as thats how i started. You will find as you get the antenna higher your noise level will drop off. Good DX.

      @MrSlipstreem 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CB-RADIO-UK Unfortunately, I own my property but not the land it stands on and my landlord is allergic to tall antenna masts. I'm currently designing and 3D-printing a kit of support parts to install the antenna and supporting pole inside a dummy 2.9m tall plastic gutter downpipe. The coax will enter the wall via a custom-printed downpipe support bracket, so the whole install will be completely invisible from the outside. 🤫🤭

      Just to add to this, I received a nice offer of a discount on a future Retevis purchase as an apology. I won't tell you how much as that's between me and them, but I've just ordered an RA79 and programming cable for a bargain price. It never hurts to be courteous. 🙂

    on the AT-500M with the wire cut, I still have the UK band, it's possible you could run another band and that radio probably had a option for +5k, but that thing has to have a hidden alignment menu, same board as the 500 and all that's in there, check out the Apollo II alignment procedure and that shpild get you in there or at least,gice,you some direction. I hope you see,these, also hope you post a update video with your findings, I'm interested in buying one, hey
    .. even the Anytone Smart radio has an alignment menu hidden, I assume all radios will go that way in the near/present future.
    and btw... the Apollo II jas the same board as the ver.2 stryker 955 incase no one knew that, I've been playing with as many of these Chinese radios as Ive been able too, fun stuff, good audio reports and decent tweakability, even receive,rf gain,squelch, I mean everything is modifiable within these menus, pretty cool.. They have been making 12M-10M radios for a while, often under their other brands.
    Do not recommend increasing the wattage beyond the designed spec unless you want to cause the output transistors to wear out prematurely. The heat generated in the rig will build up beyond it's tolerances quite quickly and kill it. Having said this it does have an external heatsink with some substance behind it ao this is probably one of their ham radios thats locked to a legal 4W spec.

    Looks similar to the old Kernow beta 1100 with some fancy fairy lights to tell you the functions and a din mic socket which I’m not too keen on unless it’s a locking din.
    Got to be honest drawing 3A on a 4W radio (which it won’t be, it’ll be more 3w) is a tad excessive drain and I don’t think I’d be swapping my midland 48 or 78 pro for one of these or in fact a Kernow beta 1100 for one. It’ll have the usual muting when changing channels which is annoying too.
    What also irritates me about the new multinorms is that the uk 40 is set almost as an afterthought as they are all optimised for the EU frequencies which I understand but they should optimise the UK40 for the uk market or do a separate batch specifically for the UK. Most on the uk are desensitised and low power or low audio output. So annoying in a lot of ways

      Happy New Year by the way, and did I catch it correctly that you’re not a Ham licence holder in one of your other videos or did I mishear?
      I was surprised as you seem to be the sort who would have one. Personally I just find it too daunting and confusing, particularly all this repeater stuff lol, but I’m not the best at radio related things as you can tell. I’m a big fan of PMR comms using what I have, ahem… and looking to dip my toe back into CB after a 40 year hiatus, lol. 😄
      Also, would you choose this Retevis set over other entry level units? I was contemplating a hand held like the Thunderpole TX, PN Escort 82 or the other one that’s similar (name escapes me, Yonix maybe?) as I like the form factor of hand held radios and have no existing antenna or power supply to utilise. On the subject of which, what power supply would you recommend? The one you show in the video appears to have been superceded.

      Yes the radio is disabled from transmit outside its set freq range. You can go into a hidden menu and change that but i would not do so myself due to harmonics from the radio.

    • @26DR302
      @26DR302 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was wondering what the general consensus was about this. Signal meters are quite variable so a signal report is only a rough guide. Normally you can hear a strong station i.e. fully quietening which will likely be S7 or higher.

    • @snakezdewiggle6084
      @snakezdewiggle6084 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, agreed. Meter would seal the deal for me.
      Get me a schematic of the radio and I'll diy one at the pcb making place.
