The story of Hence is so good! It's thematically rich even in a short overview, and I can imagine dozens of ill-fated quests to find the remains of the King in Bronze. The ruins must house all kinds of dragons and other hostile wildlife. Speaking of bronze, I love how the kinsbane starts out orange and turns green as though it's forming a patina.
This has got to be my new favorite dragon. I love everything about it. It doesn't feel like a monster, yet it isn't overly Anthropomorphised. It really feels like the lion or T-rex of your world like a truly majestic creature worthy of respect.
One of coolest things I’ve ever learned about snakes is that every time you see the moniker of “King” it means they eat other snakes. A killer of killers a true apex predator. Super cool
i wounder given the kinsbane, general indifference to the humans it unintentionally protecting them from dragons that would view them as food or computation. that upon passing form age or battle some brave humans may morn the passing of the kings of the mountain i could see the humans taking the skull or teeth of the kinsbane as a object of reverence hoping it would not be to long before another great king take its 'throne'. perhaps some protect younglings or orphaned egg's provideing them shelter and food till they grow large enough to defend themselves it would be in the best intrest of the humans of these dragon filled lands to see as many of their mountain kings, live long enough to sit their thrones. lest their settelments be over run by the smaller wurms
I love this. I wonder if any civilizations have succeeded in living peacefully beside a kinsbane, maybe even stretching its lifespan by assisting it in hunts? Less injuries sustained to the dragon would mean their large kingly bodyguard would live longer.
So satisfying when rule of cool slots into a feasibly biological explanation -- I can picture those tusks being very useful in meal processing, prying apart armor like a crowbar. It all adds up since the dragon's meals are rare, it needs to eat every bit of the kill like a crocodile. Plus, it's flightless after so there's not a downside to eating too much. Overall it seems like Kinsbane would have a modified metabolism, mostly running on low power mode, and spiking for brief jolts during the rare dragon-hunt. Bravo justifying the biological necessity for epic monster tusks - this one is a triumph.
Thanks so much! To me these sort of crazy monster designs absolutely need their explanations- and limitations- to be at their best and I’m glad it delivered
The Great Kinsbane's biological niche is incredibly well thought-out, quite possibly the best example of a fictional apex predator I know of. The mascot of the Codex. I also like the Gray necks. I never would've guessed it's a deer. The horns made me think of the Chiru. Favorite part hands down was how it stormed a city for food. But unlike another dragon who did it out hatred for humans, the Kinsbane did this because it was hungry.
16:59 That's so fucking cool!!!! You definitely make the best art of all the speculative evolution projects I've seen, absolutely haunting and beautiful at the same time. In terms of the Great Kinsbane being either edgy or immaculate, I'd have to say it's the latter. It has those fantastic defenses for the best of reasons! Fantastic job again man!!
The Kinsbane being able to react to food unconsciously reminds me of the scene in the movie "The Host." There's a scene where the monster is fast asleep, so one of its captives tries to escape, only for its tail to catch them again without waking up.

Difference is, the Great Kinsbane is still capable of releasing fiery breath with a pretty decent quantity of it, as in still having elemental ailment in Monster Hunter perspective. Nice video! You have a really well thought out dragon. I could see people writing songs about kin slayers, and saying about married couples "fighting like a pair of courting kin slayers"! Really well done.
I hope to hell my dnd party don’t watch this cause I came up with Caldera for my campaign and it’s word for word identical. Lush forest, dormant super volcano, tons of dragons… I literally called it Caldera too!
From what I understand that creature is an active harm to its ecosystem, where I make a point about the Kinsbane being part of a very elaborate balance
All the time i always remembered the name of this cool dragon as kinGsbane... Now i know better, but this dragon is still king - as long as he is not in the vicinity of his chad-cousin. Hehehe. I find it pretty interesting how you were (again like with other of your beasts) able to find a balance between the "rule of cool" and speculative evolution in creating the Kinsbane. It is also fascinating seeing such a symbiosis between dragons and humans.
This one is my favorite now, partually because of cool design, and partually because of some similarities with dragon-eating dragons from my own setting (high need for some mineral components that he can get from other dragons easiest way, being kinda like a guardian figure in ecosystem for small animals and sapients)
Peak dragon, my all time favourite of the setting. Quick question, excluding sea dragons(where the kinsbane do poorly) are there any dragons that a fully grown and experienced kinsbane can't attack?(Like on average who wins between a kinsbane and an hullbreaker?)
I am broke af, but today, I start saving so I can buy this book day 1. As an aspiring writer, this is absolute FIRE, I will watch more of your videos, this is just so amazing. The art, the concepts, the execution. In my childhood one of the books that left the biggest impact in me was a dragon encyclopedia that explained the dragons of different mythologies. Id imagine so the hullbreaker looks to be taller than the kinsbane and possibly more bulky. They could be stronger considering their lifestyle of punching ice.

Loved this idea of people honoring the dragon that fights other dragons. Monster hunter has a couple similar monsters like this. Espaines comes to mind the sleeping rose one. Love it another great video.
All your videos give me monster hunter vibes, but this is probably the best example of that. Idk if either of those were an inspiration but I sure love that this is the atmosphere we're going with
Yeah there’s definitely a parallel with the big almost fantastical creatures explained in a sort of plausible way/ addition of dragon slayers but I do strive to make this it’s own thing
Great stuff. Though i would personally design this thing to grow bigger spines on more places of it's body and in weirder shapes. Similar to Human bones shattering under great stress to prevent further tissue damage. It would help this dragon on it's mountain-side wrestling endevors.
I can imagine a clash between the Hullbreaker and the Kinsbane would shatter the earth and rattle the sky, I can see these titans dripping with blood staring each other down know the next strike will be the last
Was about to say the same the thing and honestly i feel like it could be some pretty good world building a Kingsbane pushed out its habitat by a stronger adult ends up in Arctic and tries to hunt a Hullbreaker and it results in this clash that gets turned into a religious story for the hinterman and goes down in his. The Grey King of the Mountains and The Silver God of the Glaciers would be fire asf
Dragon Hunters and Knights: "There must be a dragon that can stand up to the Great Kinsbane, right?" HullBreaker: Here I am,sorry for the waiting( like anime or manga :) )...when can I start with the "MOST STRONG (and only and unique in doing) Iron Fist of the draconic kind"?
Your channel is awesome, gives me Monster Hunter vibes I love fantasy ecology that goes in depth like this, I'll have to show my wife she live this kinda stuff even more!
They technically should but they’re shorter as to better convey the grappling/wrestling vibe he’s to give off. I aim for speculative realism but push the boundaries of reality at its edges to weave the narrative I’m writing
not gonna lie. Hullbreaker probably Obliterate KingsBane. Hullbreaker can't fly and built FAAAr more Tanky and Built to Only fight and not run. they are 2meter taller than Kinsbane and is also looks Twice as heavy as Kinsbane. Its fist alone looks like its heavier than all of Kinsbanes body except its tail excluded. HullBreaker wins this
@timexyemerald6290 counter point, the kingsbane is designed to kill dragons, and the creator said in qna of the discord server that they would be evenly matched, though I agree, it should lose everytime
First time I got a good look at the map, just to find out is like a re-mixed Planetos, which is hilarious! As a fellow lover of fantasy cartography, it is brilliant.
Wow, Literally a Squash Meater! Interesting realistic facts in consideration the meaning of a true ravenous Alpha Predator/Cannibals in Fantasy Media and bloody deep dive heck of lore dude!
@@jambug5598 and then a Giant joins the fray of the two.
@@Raiders989 Just realized it’s basically the Ukanlos and Akantor typa story but honestly i think it’s cool either way
These guys are liked giants carnívoros capybaras
Dragon Hunters and Knights:
"There must be a dragon that can stand up to the Great Kinsbane, right?"
HullBreaker:
Here I am,sorry for the waiting( like anime or manga :) )...when can I start with the "MOST STRONG (and only and unique in doing) Iron Fist of the draconic kind"?
Your channel is awesome, gives me Monster Hunter vibes
I love fantasy ecology that goes in depth like this, I'll have to show my wife she live this kinda stuff even more!
Thanks a bunch!
@sawyerleeart she's been watching your channel all day
Cute
Never put a Kinsbane in a self defense situation.
Unless you happen to be a hullbreaker.
cant wait for the actual dragonslayer codex book definetely would preorder
AAYYYYYY MY FAVOURITE DRAGON GETS A VIDEO!!
(Erm **snort** should the wings be larger/longer since it’s a big animal)
They technically should but they’re shorter as to better convey the grappling/wrestling vibe he’s to give off. I aim for speculative realism but push the boundaries of reality at its edges to weave the narrative I’m writing
@@sawyerleeartalright! Still a awesome dragon either way and thanks for making these cool vids
Yeah, I’m going to need more “A King Cast In Bronze” lore…..
👀
Kingsbane and Hullbreaker duel would be legendary
There's gonna be an animation of a fight between them!
A clash of monsters
@@Nature13-vs5jv a clash of living tanks that fkkking fly
not gonna lie.
The flagship of the Dragonslayer Codex
Every video I have watched of yours is top notch, video has just begun and I am stoked.
I’m stoked to hear that!
I'm here for it, whatever this becomes; keep it up, world-building & sponsors...
Wow, Literally a Squash Meater! Interesting realistic facts in consideration the meaning of a true ravenous Alpha Predator/Cannibals in Fantasy Media and bloody deep dive heck of lore dude! Heavy Damn! Your dragons are getting more and more epically reptilian in every detail!!! Simply brutal of Work!!! 💀🍖🐉

Okay I'll see myself out
Viva & Cirrus have to watch their back when they're ventured into the mountain region of the caldera and always keep a lookout for the Great Kinsbane. The Apex Dragon predator of the sky.
3:17 My God that thing is fucking massive
Is that a Dragon or a Tarrasque?!
Edit: 11:44 oh shit it is a Tarrasqe.
Edit 2: 13:40 so it’s also a Diablos from Monster Hunter?
I want to explore this world so bad and this is by far my favorite Dragon
